    • But.... what's with the lack of empathy? The people want the Cops to break down on the homeless, but they're only homeless and broke because of the lack of social programs. Why is this program so weird to me as a Swede? It basically thinks that "locking people up" will solve the problems, but it's not like that in real life. All of homelessness, addiction and criminality is basically a result of the systems in place in the city. No help for homelessness causes more homelessness. No economical aid for people struggling = more homelessness etc. etc. Why is this program pretending like it's the problem of the justice system?

    • @@Ree1981 How does Seattle handle the problem? Handing out needles. You are right, there are no programs to help the homeless in Seattle. You can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped. If you want to help the homeless man in Seattle first give him a fishing pole and a free fishing license. That's a start. I don't think the people in Seattle who are paying enormous tax on their highly inflated property, and paying on every purchase for someone to "earn" $15 an hour while possessing no "skills", can bear the added expense of programs on top of the huge incentives given to affiliates of the politicians in power (political favors).

  • I've just watched this after visiting Seattle as a tourist from the UK and being so shocked at how bad the place is. It appears nothing has changed since this documentary. I visited on my own and just felt downright unsafe a lot of the time. I just can't believe nothing is being done about this. It's a shame because the city seems to have so much to offer but I will never visit again nor would I recommend anyone else to. OK some places in the UK have their issues but I have never felt as uncomfortable as I have been in Seattle. I hope for everyone's sakes this is sorted eventually.

      @troutfitter547@troutfitter54711 ай бұрын
    • @@troutfitter547 they won’t. And that BS is spreading - just look at Chicago a couple of weeks ago. The only thing that the overcorrection regarding police brutality has accomplished is to make every crime a possible death sentence. If law enforcement isn’t allowed to do their job, citizens will and they aren’t required to use any escalation of force. In my state, a person is justified in using or threatening to use deadly force if he or she reasonably believes that using or threatening to use such force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another or to prevent the imminent commission of a forcible felony. Great bodily harm is defined as any harm more severe than minor or slight harm and could include wounds that bleed profusely or require stitches, broken bones, and injuries requiring surgery. For example, bruises generally won’t fall under this but shove someone down causing them to hit their head or chase someone with an axe or knife or box cutter would likely meet the elements. A forcible felony includes treason; murder; manslaughter; sexual battery; carjacking; home-invasion robbery; robbery; burglary; arson; kidnapping; aggravated assault; aggravated battery; aggravated stalking; aircraft piracy; unlawful throwing, placing, or discharging of a destructive device or bomb; and any other felony which involves the use or threat of physical force or violence against any individual. All that progressive policing has accomplished is to force people to defend themselves and they will do that with lethal force.

    • Exactly. And they wonder why we have a homeless problem even when 20 minutes north of Seattle in Everett they want over $1,000 for a one bedroom or higher. Even Marysville.That’s a average and I think I’m being generous. Cost of living skyrocketed but wages haven’t. Some California cities solved their problems with rent control.

      @Luv2Dnce4@Luv2Dnce45 жыл бұрын
    • Luv2Dnce4 I was born and raised in Everett and yes, you’re right. Downtown Everett is pretty ugly. The most ugly part. Broadway is filled with homeless people on every street corner and half the city is just car sales lots. The entire city is propped up by Boeing and the Navy. I’d hate to see what happens to it if Boeing ever closes down the plant and the Navy moved elsewhere. I don’t think Everett proper would survive. You should see it right now, useless construction on Broadway right now that’s been going on for months and a few burned out buildings that’ve been “remodeling” for close to a year. It’s a shame that Marysville is becoming just as bad as Everett and I can only assume Stanwood will follow the same route.

      @jasoninthehood9726@jasoninthehood97265 жыл бұрын
    • Luv2Dnce4 Also, everyone complains about junkies but I hardly ever see people talk about all the alcoholics. Every gas station in down town Everett you have homeless people waiting at 6AM waiting just for the stores to open the freezers for the alcohol. I don’t know why anyone ever brings this up, as it’s also part of the problem but I’m not saying I have the solution to it either. Go to the Jacksons on Pacific Avenue near the freeway exit and I guarantee every morning you’ll find a homeless person there waiting to buy their alcohol.

Whether those choices involved drugs or alcohol or got depressed and gave up... they need to go to work and pull their own weight. Locking people up and feeding them is punishing the tax payer. Criminals need discipline and punishment not time out with a nice bed and meals delivered to them. If they prove themselves non rebabitable, end their suffering and the taxpayers at the same time by humane methods. She chose to shut down her entire State's economy for 3 months, including the rural areas that had almost ZERO cases of Covid-19. NOW, she is blaming the FEDERAL Government for not funding her budget shortfalls, as though money appears through "magic". She CHOSE to cut her hand off, and is now screaming "I've only got one hand!" This is how Democrats think! In truth, this is how they ACT, without actual thinking. It was nothing like what I just saw of the current situation you guys are forced to live in or look at .idk how any mayor, aldermen, state rep up to the governor and any elected official underneath would ever let the citizens that elected them be subjected to all the hazards jeopardizing life or limb. This is the definition of failure and the evidence proving that millions just witnessed . The Blatant disregard for the health and safety of every citizen or visitor there in Seattle...where are codes officials? Why arent mayor and local city officials putting boots and overalls on cleaning up their mess??? Have all their payroll checks cleared in the past several years cuz if they have taken money for work they did not in fact deliver or even attempt doing in 1st place, uh theft by deception and fraud if they were any other contract labor. You will sit in jail for a minute over some of these small Petty ass shit. I know someone who got 6 months for stealing a Four Loko. Yeah he had priors and shit, but in Florida they do not play. And they'll come get your ass no matter where you're at. I actually think that's a good thing though. Because downtown Orlando is nowhere near the shithole Seattle is. That's because the cops can/will beat the shit out of you, and the judges will lock you up. 💯 the moral of the story is when you come here on vacation don't fuk up. Cuz they will totally fuck you. • I have just returned from Seattle where we stayed for 2 days following a cruise. I was the first time i had visited the USA for nearly 10 years, prior to that i visited at least twice per year since the mid 90's. I was shocked. I saw things in Seattle that i have never seen in the USA before. The level of drug abuse within the city centre (I stayed on Pine Street and 8th avenue) was shocking. Street dwellers, Open drug use and private security by dept stores and businesses was openly seen. I was so aware of it i consciously decided to limit my movements around the city. What struck me most was the willingness of the authorities to allow this to openly exist within the city. This clearly leads to less inviting areas for tourists and locals alike. It will surely mean that tourists in particular will avoid these areas, in my case i have already decided that i will not be visiting the USA at all in the foreseeable future, as i don't see it as being safe, or value for money when compared to other areas of the world. What will this mean long term for the income generated by tourism for the USA? Couple this with the current political turmoil in the USA and i don't see how anyone would visit the USA unless they have to, and believe me, they don't have to!!!

    • Human nature was an amateur term created to fill the void about the misunderstanding about humans. Genetics are predispositioned towards certain behaviors that adapt to what works within our environment. There are no predetermined genes, all genes can be manipulated and all behavior is learned through environmental adaptation. This means that human nature is adaptability and we are molded by our environment and when you put this train of thought together, everything starts to make sense. If you have an economic system based on scarcity, you have a recipe for competition. If you have a recipe for competition, you get war, labor exploitation, social imbalance, inequality, unsustainability, survival of the fittest, classism, power consolidation, owners of everything. We have to change the underlying precondition of our society using technology and science to a post-scarcity society. We are not running out of anything but the resources we are using and depleting that keep this current economy going yet we are destroying the Earth in the process. Resources are as abundant as the efficiency and renewability of the design itself. The mechanisms that tell us whether our economy is good or bad are the same mechanisms that reward behavior that goes with the grain of the Earth and it's preservation, with collaboration and care for each other and everything that keeps us thriving. Peter Joseph details all of this better than I ever can.
