I had a girl practically beg me to to see Metallica back in 88. I was a country boy. She promised dinner, a show and a good time later. I begrudgingly went. I have loved them ever since.

From IrishCentral: " “Whiskey in the Jar,” a song about a notorious Irish highwayman Patrick Fleming who was hanged in 1650, has become Ireland’s oldest most beloved song a true rebel air that stirs the passions." Each generation reinterprets great older songs for themselves. Music is forever.
we know........well us with Irish blood.
Ya know I figured The "Ma Sharane ah ma du ah ma dah" must be "Gaelick" My Granny is Irish....
Im hung like Ned Kelly if that helps
Never heard it was about a real person. Will definitely Google. I know the song is dated back to the 17th century but no author's name.
Like King Arthur or Robin Hood. I get it. But the history remains. Embrace history. It is what made us. As nations and individuals.

So nice to see young people having good, clean fun!
😄
+@MrKastaway66: This is one of their most atypical videos, a case where the actions and the lyrics have nothing to do with each other. If, say, Guns N' Roses had made a a video depicting a wild, drunken party, nobody would have blinked. It's like Eric B. and Rakim's "Don't Sweat The Technique" video, which also had girls in bikinis at a party, though without the chaos seen here, which was not typical of their videos at all.

One of the best covers ever made in music. Metallica absolutely nailed it.
This is is awesome party song for people that love music of the 80s Metallica deserve more credit than was given. They still rock. I can listen to this a million times. Today's music sucks. Sissy music. Rock forever 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥
This is the best cover EVER! Thin Lizzie did a great job in '72. There have been many covers of this 300+ year old song but this is definitely the best! T.L. brought this very old Irish folk song into mainstream, love Thin Lizzie's cover but Metallica rocks it!
i like both :)

the dubliners
@@bon2yan88 I was gonna make that suggestion myself ! It's interesting to hear how the song progressed ! Kinda like Zeppelins version of Gallows Pole, that song or some version dates back to the 1500's or 1600's Iceland, I think. I would like to hear a more traditional version of that song !
Wow 1700s this was written 😯 ffs I musta missed the memo 🤣

Oh Lordy, I had forgotten until I read a few of the comments that this video was still getting airplay in the mid 90's. I remember on Compuserve's CB Simulator having a discussion about what this video was like. Some of the comments gave me flashbacks to 1995 and..... I'm just going to shut up before I age myself any further. edited to add: Back in 1995 Thin Lizzy's version was still being played on the air as a "classic from the 70's." I freely admit in 1995 I was only drug-free a year and was still drinking.
This video came out in 1999
Alberta Rose
+PeteTheChopp ... yep!! And Alberta here discussed the merits of it still being played back in '95...which makes her story a complete lie!

my favourite Metallica song. I know it's a cover but they bring this song to life
Carved the "some men like a" lyrics in a jail cell on rikers Island in 2008. I like to think they're still there

Making a music video like this looks so awesome... But so expensive...
in 90s Metallica had a lot of videos not like in 80s.
I'd assume they were planning on demolishing the house anyway.
what is money to Metallica?? :D
This video is awful tho
Not only does this video have beer, expensive guitars, pillow fighting sluts and loud music, but also lots of destruction of furniture. I see nothing wrong here. Considering Metallica are man-children.

When I was a little boy in Montana (age 11 years in 1991; Christmas time and my birthday 🙂), my grandma died (yes, I was sad 😢). I met her on her deathbed for nature's birthday present to me. She was born in the late 1800s, and survived the Great Depression, Prohibitionism, and World Wars. She taught me something; the only thing I can share with all of you. She taught me what a "Daddy-O" was. A Daddy-O is an alcohol smuggler who is sometimes a musician. ... ROCK-ON!! 🙂
