Thumbs up before the opening ad finished as I knew it was going to be the bomb. Great job as always Jimmy, I can only imagine the design hours you have in this. Not everyone needs a step by step on designing a building, KZhead has 100's of videos specific to the software being used to do that. I like the content whether it is design and print, ops, electronics or construction. I learn something new all the time when you post a video, like I learned from this one that 3D printing is not for me at this time. :-)
The filament prints should’ve had smaller layers so you don’t get big gaps between each layer it’ll look more smooth

What an incredible project. I am always fascinated by the amount of work. I am very interested in 3D printing but like most things in this hobby there are areas that I should stay away from because I know that I would not have the patience to do a good job. I would rather buy these things from you at your Etsy store. Keep up the good work. Perhaps you can design a railroad signal shell that can cover those ugly Digitrax signals that work well but are a visual disaster. Stay safe and happy railroading to you.

I've been modeling in N-scale since the early 70s, and you really couldn't get, "modern era," buildings, like this chemical plant (or high-rise city buildings, or grain mills) You had to make them. Most modelers back then, through the 1980s, seemed to focus on the steam-to-diesel era. I'd be interested in one of those chemical plants, at some point. If you're modeling Texas, you gotta have lots of petrochemical plants, lol.

i build architectural buildings....the taller the better....I want to buy a 3D printer but have no clue what i need....any suggestions....?...and the graphic design of what I need the printer to do...I have no clue....
If tank cars are unloaded from under, What are all the models of loading/unloading racks on the market that seem just to worry about the top of the cars? They are just loading racks then?

Your layer height on the tanks / cylinders is way too high, they shouldn't look like they are about to fall apart. You can get much better results out of an FDM printer, just need to tweak your settings a little. I would set the layer height to 0.1mm and increase the in-fill, maybe use tri-hexagon? That looks like you printed with 0.15 or 0.2mm? The spiraling on the roof part shouldn't happen either. You need to increase the number of vertices in the cylinder, adjust the layer height and possibly increase the temperature of the nozzle. The other parts look good though. You might have better results with the tanks if you print the cylinder and tops separately, and design it so the top inserts into the cylinder? I'll see if I can find time to throw a video up with mine sometime this week.
So it turns out that spool had a section of garbage filament that was too thin. This caused the extruder to not be able to push the proper amount through and causes layer issues. These were printed at the beginning and I had 2 large failed prints afterwards that were extremely brittle. I ordered a new spool from a different manufacturer (matterhackers) and now I am getting much better results. This is also a cheap printer too that I normally just relegate to printing bases. My Prusa Mini just came in and I am getting it up to speed as my main workhorse. It's prints are stellar!
@@DIYDigitalRailroad What brand of filament are you using? Hatchbox and Atomic Filament (made in Indiana) seem to work the best regardless of the quality of the printer! You can definitely see from the layer lines that the layer height is a bit high, you want it as low as possible (where it makes sense for the type of print) and increase the nozzle temperature / flow in the slicer. This will give you much smoother results. Anyway, its great to see people doing modeling with 3D printers, keep up the good work. Hopefully it encourages more people to buy the things :)
