  • I'm always amazed at how much work you do to add the little details that are so important. I had forgotten about the aluminum foil that was used for building the base. When I initially saw the grave, it didn't dawn on me that the layers were not how the base was built. It is so well done that a person who had no experience with building miniatures wouldn't know that you added the walls. Geez, I didn't realize it until I saw this video. I love the way this entire project is turning out. You are an inspiration.

I find myself wanting to say to folks sometimes, "No, you don't get it. This took hundreds and hundreds of hours." But, of course, one cannot really do that. But we all know as we watch you and from our own experience. Thanks and have a great holiday.

  • A dark wash would have brought out the wood grain marks on the garage walls but is quite wonderful as is! A shovel and pile of debris will very much define the hole in the lawn. I like the felt on the top of basement. I usually felt the bottom of the first story also to double the light blocking benefit. I like to add a peg to the basement level with matching hole in the first level. Just makes it harder to knock the level off in case it gets bumped. We voted on your two weeks off and it barely passed. Turns out two weeks is very difficult for many of us to go without a video! Have a great Holiday!

    @michaellindsey1543@michaellindsey1543 Жыл бұрын
    • I might add in some more aging as I add more shelving too. Never enough wood grain! ;) The peg is a really good idea. I was thinking of using magnets again to keep things in place but I peg would work really nicely too and I wouldn't have to worry about the magnets pulling out of the foam. I am so glad the vote passed! phew! Hopefully it will be worth the wait when I come back with the first video I have planned for 2023! Happy Holidays!

  • Gotta admit though, one of the funniest things in the digging scene in the movie is the VERY out of scale "Fragile" stamp on the piece of cardboard they dig up ;-) I also don't know if you've discovered this trick yet, or maybe it doesn't work with the pink foam, but I've seen other creators use (I believe) acetone to 'melt' crags into foam.

    @Terahnee@Terahnee Жыл бұрын
    • 😄😄 I noticed that too!! All I can picture is the set designer sitting down to watch the premiere of the movie they worked so hard on and then getting SO MAD when they get to that scene and realize the prop designer used regular cardboard. LOL! I have not tried that yet but thank you for the reminder. I think I saw Nerdforge do it maybe?

Seeing all the houses in the garage makes my heart happy. It's like a milestone! The green part you cut out of the base can be busted up and spread around the hole...maybe add grass to it first and then bust it up? This is totally exciting. I've learned so much! Thank you!

  • So Ara, when I am adding new clay to dry clay, I wet the surface of the older dry clay, that helps it to stick and not curl loose as much. Also are you planning on doing grass flocking on the yard? it would cover all the problem spots. you should take the section you cut out, and break it up then glue it to the side of the hole like someone dug it out and piled it.

    @JDtheBlackPhoenix@JDtheBlackPhoenix Жыл бұрын
    • I probably should have done that but so far it seems to be holding on ok. Great tip to remember! I will be using static grass for the first time with this project and I am so excited! I do think it will cover up a lot of the differences. I did keep that piece you mentioned and I think I will static grass it and break it apart like you suggested. It will be a good practice piece anyway😄

    • I am so glad I could share some creative inspiration with you! It was so nerve wracking to cut into the base! But I figure it was better to do it now before I add the grass. It'll be much easier to patch now than later if I hated it😄

Doing changes to a seemingly finished "until-you-had-better-ideas" work can really rattle your bones but its nice to know you have a contingency plan in case you didn't like it.   • Love how the Garage is looking. Never figured out from the movie where the stairs were exactly so maybe Delia simply overlooked them in her quest of adjusting the rest of the house to her taste. Love the 'grave'hole you added, hoped you would. Just wondering why you didn't place the fake walls under the already existing clay layer? As that is what I would have done. :}

    @yezzyjames@yezzyjames Жыл бұрын
    • Thank you Yezzy! I can see her overlooking them or just thinking the garage was gross and choosing to ignore it😄 Just like she didn't seem to care that she didn't have access to the attic either. I wanted to add the fake walls underneath the existing clay but digging the foam and foil out was a pain and I figured just making a new clay layer would be an easier solution.

    @fancifuldevices@fancifuldevices Жыл бұрын
    • Lol! I am lazy and never want to clean more than one brush. Because of that I often pick the brush that will do the most amount of detail work when I get to the corners which often means its too small for the larger easier areas.

    @edwinacoffman6429@edwinacoffman6429 Жыл бұрын

    @batwrangler@batwrangler Жыл бұрын
    • Looking back I think I could have made it a little bit wider but I don't think I would want it to be the entire width because then the shelves would have to be really deep for the houses to be up front and center when people peek in. That was my thought process but it did turn out a little bit tight in there!
