My first time flying was absolute panic, but the second time wasn't scary at all 🤣 (except for the take-off, I still get nervous). This is a great video! I've taken some flight lessons and, if I learned anything, I learned just what you detailed; you have to continually think about alternative plans if something goes wrong. Those considerations take up an amazing amount of time and thought processing even in a 172. I can only imagine what it's like flying a commercial airline. +1

Thanks for sharing this. Very interesting. In the early 80ies I already listened on the hf to aviation communication. e.g. Shanwick and Santa Maria on the Azores. And also Gander in Canada. But most interesting was Africa on 11300 kHz. There were several control centers on that frequency like Mogadishu and Khartoum. And they did not only speak to the pilots crossing their area, but also exchanging flight progress between the ground stations... really odd. But now you have sat com digital text messaging over the Atlantic, but still hf as backup.

Hey, really like your videos, very inspiring! Looking for becoming a pilot in the future. How many languages do you know? What are the most used languages and are 4 languages enough, including english? Also, is a going in some company's flight school a good choice or is it better to go to some sort of private school? Hey, thanks for the amazing content, as always. I would like to ask: Do you ever engage in casual conversations with other aircraft while flying in remote areas?
Here in Canada, they teach us in flight training that even on the radio of remote areas its forbidden to engage casual conversations.
Same with us in Europe ✌️

You as a pilot n (should be many others) are must be very OPEN MINDED person. in manyways & anyways You talking about something what personally I never heard from anyone, it isn't mean someone never did before, but as you being a pilot, your charisma is grabbing people into your pilot life. Yes, on the long-haul you have a lot of time to get to know other pilots and at the end of the flight you usually know the pilot better than your girlfriend or wife, which is funny😅 You probably tell each other a lot of secrets, admit it. and really very interesting that you can take a power nap when you are tired in the cockpit. I read that once but I couldn't believe it but it's a good idea, it makes sense when the other person is awake and focused. So why not 👍
Haha, it's true that long-haul flights can lead to some deep pilot friendships! Sharing a cockpit for hours does encourage open conversations. And yes, power naps are sometimes taken strategically when the other pilot is alert - safety first! 😉✈️
@@Pascalklr Yes, exactly, I think scientists have examined exactly how power napping affects how long a power napping can last. I read that this should only last a maximum of 30 minutes so that the pilot doesn't fall into a deep sleep, because after that you won't be able to wake him up properly. really very interesting 😊

What does it feel like to sleep in bed during movement?
Let me reveal the two things pilots do, that is not covered here, for obvious reasons. 1. The controlled rest is for specified time, 30 or 40mins, but obviously pilots sleep longer than that, after discussion with the co-pilot. 2. Yes some pilots do watch Netflix, specially on very long flights, coz they is simply nothing much to do. All of this is done, provided one of the two pilot is in control and is doing all of the task mentioned in the video. Two man job becomes 1 man job in cruise, while the other person is allowed to rest, so that during approach the pilot who has now got some rest can do a stellar landing!!

Oh come on, you somd like you are busy continuously on a 10h atlanttic crossing which is simply wrong. Yes, the tasks you mentioned are of course correct but you have several hours on such a crossing where you have nothing to do and where it is common that pilots read books (of cour only ac and company manuals) or even watch movies. Of course thats something that you wont admit. Getting a oceanic clearance is a matter of 2 minutes, checking in with the 2-3 atc unitts oflver the Atlantic takes a few seconds. A fuel check is done in a minute amd obtaining wx info for the next hours also just takes a few minutes max. Of course you have to stay focused, pay attention to wx and stay ahead of the ac, but I wish one of those videos about what pilots do in cruise whould be honest admit that pilits have a lot of time in cruise where there is nothing to do amd you somehow have to spend that time and that is not doing nothing starring in the sky.
