  • Ten hag was brought in to transition the team to a more modern proactive style. What he’s saying is that he’s keeping his eye on the long term rather than abandoning it to compensate for short term weakness. Because the latter leads nowhere and takes us away from where we are transitioning to.

  • The gap between defence and attack is related to keeping the eye on the long term goal. He wants to get the principles into the team for future seasons, but the defence can’t do it so the gap is the short term compromise. The alternative is to abandon training the team to play the way he wants and delay transition for another season, which is a path to nowhere and not what he was hired for. Or you carry on and accept the weakness, and everything is in place when next season comes around and more suitable defenders are brought in. That’s how progress happens. You don’t wait for everything to be perfect before starting. You have to make sacrifices and go through the pain.

    • My big issue is the fact that that "our players cant play a high line" narrative is bs, sure, they are definetly suboptimal especially from a pace standpoint, but would playing a highline not still be better even if u dont have the right players? It would allow the FBs to be connected to press which is the one difference from our press to his ajax press as well as closen that huge gap in midfield. Sure we might get caught in behind a few times but surely that wouldnt make us concede more then now when we face 20 to 30 shots per game. I get his point but i totally disagree with his approach on sitting deep as a result of that personell issue rather than commiting to his tactics even when some players might not perfectly suit it. That way we could all see that the issue is the quality of the players, but with our current structural issues it leaves to many question about ten hag open for me.

  • I think ten Hag is staying, with the way the interview with Gary Neville was set up and it’s timing. You could tell from the questions put across by Neville, they were very nice soft ones, to allow ten Hag to explain himself, his chance to sell his ideas to the public, after all the recent hate and vitriol directed at ten Hag. I’m sure the words he spoke were the exact same words he must have had in long conversations with the senior management. In that he is already one step ahead of any other potential replacement coach, for we know how thorough and prepared ten Hag is when he makes his presentations to people like Wilcox, Ratcliffe and Brailsford. He knows his stuff and he knows exactly what he wants. The how is he going to do it, that is well, still a work in progress, as this season has been one hiccup after another mostly due to reasons out of his control.

  • I find the line about Ten Hag being backed so depressing. Did he get Kane? No, he got the back up to Kane and Murtough paid silly money for a yet to break through striker who turned up injured. Did he get Kim? No, he got Evans on a free. Did he get De Jong? No, Murtough brought in a completely different ageing player in Casemiro in an emergency. What about when we had no strikers in January and knew Martial would be out most of rest of season, did we get anyone in then? No. We scrimped and scraped over a back-up LB, got the cheapest one available and then ponced him off the moment it looked like Shaw could hop. He's explained that Mount was a no brainer, a technically gifted player who can play several positions, clearly a good back-up and if Murtough had used his brain and negotiated end of window instead of start we'd have gotten a better price. For people who can walk through moments of play in games in the nineties and noughties, the memory holing of last two seasons has been cosmic.

  • You can't continuously complain about the players and then focus your attention on changing the manager, Sam. Have some conviction. It's annoying how telling it is that you felt forced to say that you would give him another season. That's the only logical choice. It isn't a hard position to stand on.

  • Mason Mount wasnt a good signing but he is a good player. To spend most of your budget on a priority signing who normally plays in the same slot ie at 10 as the undroppable skipper cannot be regarded as a good signing when other areas of the team needed strengthening such as a pacy right footed CB

  • If we axe ETH we should apply for an insane asylum. Don‘t be a prisoner of recency bias, try snd reflect on him using the full scope of his tenure, he simply doesn’t deserve to get the axe. This club has been a hostage of bad player recruitment and contracts for far too long. I‘d rather them release every single player but a few (Kobie, Garnacho, Rasmus, Amad, Bruno, Martinez,Dalot) then sack ETH.

  • Ineos' higher ups choosing a style and a manager having to implement it is not a new phenomenon. It was already the case at utd imo. Our club wants direct football, transitional fast attacks. Not possession and control. That results in a squad being built on them types of players. Our philosophy from above our manager is all wrong imo. Eth would not play this way at some other clubs. As most clubs wouldn't recruit, promote and retain these types.

  • Mourinho was pragmatic, he got results and the fans complained that the football was boring. Ole was pragmatic, got results, the fans complained that the football was boring. Ten Hag is trying to implement a style of play and an "identity" that the fans keep harping on about, and the fans complain about the results!

We got more chances to win sticking to hes style, atleast we score more goals.Ten Hag rather loose playing in hes proactive style then loose playing defensive football. i like and respect that. There is still games to play. Come on, support Eric Ten Hag. GGMU!!

  • My nephew plays for C.Palace U13 and they recently had a EPL U13 at St George's. When up against Man City, the coach nullified City by playing something like 3-6-1. If U13s can be coached to adjust their game to an opponent, then fully professional players MUST be able to do so. ETH must not trust the players will adapt themselves to learning a new playstyle/position/formation And looking back at the wages video, those wages are a HUGE problem, these players are too comfortable in mediocrity INEOS need to gut the the squad and push the youth team to purge the culture. This would suit ETH... But would mean a brand new fresh project

  • The interview with GN was good but after the first five minutes, all i kept hearings was excuses. Transfer record 5 max. ETH wants to put players where they cant play and expecting a different result. Any prem team that does their homework cuts through us like a knife through butter. His man management is aweful take HM as an example if HM didnt have the mental fortitude to overcome ETH management style where would we be? You cannot compare a CL winning manager like Tuchel to ETH they are leagues apart. A elite manager doesnt get judged on how they perform when the deck is staked in their favour. Ive been a utd fan for 43 yrs and ive never seen so many inconsistent unexplainable team selections like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. What we know for sure is ETH does not perform well under pressure. Getting the right manager in before we continue spending hundreds of millions again is as important as sacking the entire sports psychology department

    @stevebrooks8012@stevebrooks801217 күн бұрын
    • But if the club does continue to spend hundreds of millions of pounds on players, the players signed would be to fit a specific style of played that's been defined at board level. So if/when EtH leaves, the club will appoint another manager that fits that same style of play, which means we don't need to keep doing rebuilds every time a new manager comes in.

  • So a few key points I took so far from that interview- 1. He wanted de Jong AND Casemiro together so all the excuses about Casemiro not being his signing needs to stop 2. He again reiterated he couldn’t play the Ajax way due to some of uniteds brighter stars not being the cultured posession types but that’s him essentially not being brave enough to move Bruno and rashford on and replace them.
