I've lived in NYC for years and I have eaten a lot of pizza and I have NEVER heard of or seen a single person ask for or put SALT on their pizza. Colin is a different level of New Yorker.

Fork and knife is a common way to eat pizza, especially in Italy. It is not wrong.
It is considered pretentious in New York. I have no idea why but it really annoys New Yorkers. I’ve only lived here for maybe 2 years and I’ve been warned that to use a fork would be seen as insulting . People get hung up on dumb things . Also adding additional seasoning is typically done when the pizza kinda sucks (like at those 99 cent slice places) so that’s another thing that can be seen as an insult if you’re in a nice pizza joint.
I am stunned by the negative remarks concerning this issue. I have lived in Italy, so eating with utensils is comfortable for me whether I am there or here in New York.
