  • Agree on the salary retention. Would have made it conditional, if they trade him they eat all his salary. Glad it's done.

  • Would have gotten more if he did it before this season started.

  • Good video. I like this deal for Montréal and I think it had ro be done. Allen is a good mentor and great guy but he admitted it was difficult for him to perform in such an unusual 3 goalie rotation. Getting back a conditional 3rd that could become a 2nd Rd pick is excellent value under the circumstances. I give this deal a solid A minus . B+ at worst.

    @albertvanular433@albertvanular4332 ай бұрын
  • I'd say a B is fair. Salary retention sucks, but having 3 goalies is not a good thing either. 3rd rounder is a good deal and I consider that the meaty part of the draft where some interesting players are found; I'm thinking a 1/2 point a game player. Look at it this was: they weren't going to carry 3 goalies for another season so you could've lost Primeau or Allen for less or nothing at all.

  • Geez, Amy...You're too generous with your gradings. haha. I'd say C- at best and probably only because it's a better situation for Jake, his family, Sam, and Cayden. I can't imagine how stressful it's been, not only for him, but the other 2 goalies. All of their stats have went down. These guys have had to deal with this all season. I honestly don't know how they have been able to handle it.

    @She_26@She_262 ай бұрын
    • lol, well I try to be fair in these things! I was leaning toward something in the "C" range, but when looking at *just* the trade, I was willing to be a bit more positive. However....watch for my Habs Hockey Report video next week when I grade the Canadiens' overall trade deadline performance...I might not be as generous as I was today! :)

  • Everybody knows that the goaltender needs to be in the net and playing a hot cold tender can push you through any deficiencies. The team has having three goaltenders did colossal damage. Marty St. Louis needs to be fired in Sandy, Hughes and Gordon with him.

    • Ridiculous take. Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes have done a terrific job of cleaning up the mess Bergevin let behind since talking over the team. Everyone in hockey circles are very impressed with the work HuGo have done so far but uneducated armchair couch potatoes will always complain about something.

    • Wow, is your life really that sad yhat you feel compelled to critucize everything? I've been a Hab fan since 1968 snd I've seen multiple,Cup wins. I'm more of a REAL fan than you will ever be. I understand this isn't a 6 team or 12 team league anymore and if you want to achieve any real long term success, you need to do a full and proper rebuild. And more to the point, isn't it interesting that virtually all actual hockey experts like Jason Bukala, Mike Johnson, Arpon Basu and a whole host of other hockey people who know far far more than you or I, all think Habs are in a very good place presently and are definitely headed in the right direction. Keep on being negative and pessimistic if you want but don't do it with me - I don't have time for that nonsense. Goodbye and good luck... you might need it

    • Wrong There is no way that's a C and honestly that's a laughable comment. What are you thinking? It's a good trade all around and I'm going totally the other way and giving this trade an A-. Getting a 3rd Rd pick for a goalie whose best days are far behind him? .Jake Allen is a nice guy and all that but he' 33 and his numbers prove he's barely an NHL goalie these days. Not only does this open the net for the 2 younger better goaltenders but it also brings back an asset that most people never thought possible. Not worried about salary retention as it was necessary to pull this trade off and getting rid of 3 goalie rotation which can't work long term. Plus Habs will have 1 new retention spot open next season anyway.Good piece of work by Kent Hughes. Go Habs Go!

    • @@albertvanular433 BS. Jake was doing really well in the beginning. All 3 goalies have struggled due to not enough ice time. KH in a presser a few months back said he didn't see an issue having 3 goalies. So, no, not even close to an A- for KH.

      @She_26@She_262 ай бұрын
    • @@She_26 BS yourself. Yes Allen had an excellent start but he cratered badly as the season wore on. Montembault has easily been the Habs best goalie and has not struggled at all ... to the point that he is considered to be in the running for Team Canada roster next year. There is no comparison between Montembault who has .906 save% and Allen who is at .892 As for Primeau he is still young at 24 and this will give him the opportunity to get more ice time and develop properly. Also most of the hockey pundits agree totally with me and for good reason. Mike Johnson loved this move for Montréal but doesn't understand why Devils would pick up an aging goalie after shipping Toffoli off for a 3rd and a 4th Rd pick. The 3 goalie rotation doesn't work specially for older goaltender like Allen. Kudos and full marks to Hughes for finally solving this situation and recouping assets most people didn't think he could get on the deal. I like Jake Allen as a person and I hope he has more success in Jersey because he didn't have much this season in Habland.

    • @@AllHabs Why? I don't feel a B is being generous in any way. Furthermore, I like every move KH has made in the last few weeks leading up to the TDL. Getting a 1st Rd pick for Monahan on both ends of the his trade deal is genius
