    • It is highly likely they are laying off right now. You need different people with different skill sets as a project progresses through the pipeline. This close to release, you might not need as many graphics designers and script writers. On the other hand, you will need more people with experience developing netcode. So they might lay off 600 this week, but hire 400 the next... just different people with different skills. When GTA 6 is released, there will be a massive churning again, with more people fired and some people hired. It won't be a 1:1 ratio, but the churn is there all the same.

    • @@krisspkriss That's the most retarded strategy I've ever heard of. Do you have any idea how long it takes for a new hire to become effective in a corporation? How long it takes for your investment to return any value? Half a year at minimum. Meanwhile you're firing in-house talent willy-nilly because profit percent number too low, not as big money, must pay less, must fire employee... Corporations are led by the most incompetent, most disconnected self-absorbed morons. Corporations by design work as follows: if you're fucking great at your current position, they keep pushing you up the corporate ladder to the point when you're doing a shit job and cannot be promoted any more. Broken system, fucking tragedy and something we chose to live with.

The way you people talk about AAA gaming, it's like you genuinely think they are just bullies. They are a business like anyone else, consumerism is driven by the consumer, not the producer. Stop buying every little nerd toy and dipshit video game when it comes out. And maybe the industry will realize they can't sustain their business at that rate. Or you can just keep buying games for $70 that aren't even complete, and then spend another $10000 on in game bullshit no one cares about. And then cry about the state of the industry...

We grind and work our ass off for years, and once it gets closer to release they lay off as many as possible in order to save money on staff combined with high sales once the game releases. In this way they make the most money possible. When you’ve done your part of the development you become a burden for the company and a cost since they don’t consider that my hard work will pay for itself many times over when gamers buy our game. I sacrificed my relationship, I moved away from my hometown and said goodbye to family and friends just to work for a company that broke me down. It’s like boiling a living frog, they do it slowly so you don’t even notice how it kills you day by day. And that is why I am a former developer 😊.

Also remember a CEOs job is to make money for the shareholders of that company not to care for the workers even though it’s been proven that if you take care of your employees that company will make more money… But the American corporate model comes from ford vs dodge. To make it simple and quick Ford wanted to lower the price of his cars some and increase the pay of his workers hoping they and others would buy more of his cars but the Dodge brothers who had worked for him and were then shareholders sued and ford lost the ruling was that a company should only make money for the shareholders and basically forget the employee

  • The situation is worse than you think, the $5Billion in revenue is nowhere near as bad as the truth. T2's earnings were ~400M in the last few years until 2023. They reported record revenue, but weirdly, they had -1.12B in earnings this time. This combined with the negative cashflow would explain the layoffs, because cashflow and layoffs are often correlated, but that doesn't explain the negative earnings. I did some digging into the company and if you notice, they've been buying companies like Zynga, Top Eleven, and GameClub. Microtransaction heavy companies. The sinister part of this is that it turns out, the CEO (and I think another executive) both earn 25% of their bonuses based on "recurrent spending" aka microtransactions. What they might be doing is they're laying people off and putting the company in the red, all to boost their microtransaction revenue and their own pockets. How is this not a conflict of interest?

Gaming was a hobby most didn’t understand and games were pumped out for enjoyment and to explore fantasy, storytelling or just to escape the day to day stresses of life. Games have turned into a casino where it’s max profits over everything else. Game isn’t done? Start a fundraiser. Game needs more development time? Release it and call it early access. Extend profits after the game is finished? Throw microtransactions and a battle pass. It’s pathetic
