This was my first time building a custom sub box for a 12 inch Alpine Type R. Please see my newer videos as my skills and knowledge have increased immensely.
Building a 1.9 cubic foot ported box tuned to 27 hz built to exact specifications on Alpine's manual
I love how perfectly you split the wood.
i lost my alpine R manual, but my friend had his p3 manual so i built a rockford p3 box and dropped my alpine R in it. it hits freakin hard if i want it to. the port on mine is 4inches square, 10 inches deep. ive been able to break a few cd's on the port before. a good box makes the biggest difference.
I just purchased a box from ebay for my SWR12D2 tuned to 35 hz and it looks EXACTLY like your custom made box. Great job.
You did a better job then a lot of people trying. Keep it up. My fist box came out like shit but after making more it got better and better. Good job.
I put an Alpine SWR1043D into a ported wedge box built to spec all but the port size, which has a 2 inch opening and WOW! Sits behind the passenger side seat in a B3000 Extended Cab. I now call that seat the massage seat lol. I was happy with that until I built a DeathBox for a Kicker CVR10 and Holy S**T!!! Back to the Depot for more MDF. Alpine sub will have a new home in DeathBox #2
All these negative comments from people who have never fabricated any in there life and probably never will!! Cool box bro! And built to specs.. Good stuff!!
@PDbasstube Thumbs up for being respectful. World needs people like you.
I made one of these too. Good job. I painted the inside of the port before I glued and screwed it in place.
I made a box like that in high school 21years ago. Screw it. I just used a shitload of liquid nails to fill split wood etc. It lasted 3 years. I only spent $2 on it. Good job dude
Great job on the specks & looks like you got a nice shop - keep building boxes and watch a lota' KZhead tutorials -n- oh yea awesome over all !
soon Im going to build the exact same thing thanks for sharing
First box? Good job!!
I've seen a lot of pro built boxes and they round off all edges inside. Like the L slot entry and exit is all rounded off instead of square edges. The air flows better. I think wharfedale make an intricate enclosure design for their opus series speakers where the air flows freely throughout the box to minimize standing waves. You probably have to be pedantic about these things to notice the difference but when you hear top wharfedale speakers they sound super smooth from top to bottom hz
i dont know bout the specs but im going to try it out see what i can do for my 10 in kicker comp thanks for givin me an idea on how the ported boxes are made nice box
I now work at a high end car audio store and alpine is a good company. The normal type r subs will most likely not fit in a truck box so you would have to use the slim type r subwoofers which can be a little pricey for most people.
i like this box and i think the port is just right. maybe ppl who like loud boxes will prefer a 2.5" or more maybe type-Rs give good quality bass so this box looks like it can work once ur not getting port noise its all good
You did a good job. Most of these haters don't even know how to use a fuckin hammer.
@hunter1shot i am building this box now, and im also wondering if you just used wood-glue on the planks or screws too?
This box was tuned so low so i never had a lot of punchy mid bass but now with the t-line tuned to 31 hz its sounds so much better. I don't need punchy mid bass from my sub i would rather have good lows and im planning to get nice alpine type-r component speakers so i will have enough mid bass from those.
Like that explode in the back.
@hunter1shot how many watts are you giving it? maybe there's no port noise because it is under powered. i had 2 10s in a box with a port area of 27.5 and when i hammered it there was A LOT of port noise.
@ZuluComander no prob and you will love this box it really hits those low notes
do you like the alpine? I'm thinking abott getting two of the 2 ohm alpines. Would they fit in a truck box?
Im currently building a box for my sub Mark! shoutout to ISU. This is Josh from back when we used to party together
Hell yeah! Let me know if you need any help! Those were the days! You need to come back for a visit and hear my system now lol!
true but you want your door speaker to pick up anything above 80hz, and your subs from 20hz all the way up to 60hz, You need something else for mid punch, I would recommend extra 6x9's in minature boxes, they are perfect.
How to i figure out what my ported box is tuned to? I bought a box from best buy just to try it and i really like the sound. But idk what it is tuned to. I really wanna know.
Is there much difference in sound when you port through rear deck vs ported box?
Look at the manufactured specs for the subwoofer it will usually have a box diagram and if you follow it you will get the hertz that they test tune it for. Or if you want to see other boxes just enter your box numbers into a free speaker box calculator and it will give you an estimated tuned number for the box, usually long skinny ports are low frequency and bigger ports are higher frequency, but it also depends on the subwoofer and internal volume and xmaxx and a bunch of other shit its fun
Don't ever paint mdf board... It's a great lookin box man! Good work. But to make it look even cleaner, get a lighter and and go around on the edges so it melts the edges into a rubber almost... It seals the ends so it doesn't peel and it make your cuts look straighter:)
@PDbasstube im no hater either, its sad i have to say that. but why are 45's even needed? if the wood is properly glued, screwed, and caulked, then it will stay tight. do the vibrations of the alpine type r 12 actually make that come undone? and what do you mean the port changes size along the 'L'?
@soopdag well it has to be that size when you want it tuned to 27 hz
how did you paint in the port
Nice
not too bad for a first time box bro, fyi keep the port straight and make the pox longer and you'll get better compression loading makes for better lows :)
So Do the box knocks.....i plan to built a box for my type r too....
it's called a vent, ports a round and use a cylinder. Also, you don't want just a big port or vent to have it. you want to tune it right to get good sound.
@hunter1shot "@soopdag well it has to be that size when you want it tuned to 27 hz" if you need to tune the box to 27hz u gotta get a bigger box. with that port you got too much air speed so the port makes noises. we`re just trying to help over here :)
@xX4estXx 45's are for a smoother transition of sound waves, not structural support...
@BIGSOUNDFIVE17 with some rust oleum spray paint it would look great!=D the thing that concerns me the most is that tiny speaker wire!!:O
The MDF sheets tend to curl a little when stored vertically (leaning up against a wall). Sadly when you assemble the box, some of the edges don't line up perfectly because of that curl
thats good bro i hope u still look on here whats the exact l*h*w and the port also
@hunter1shot It can be a bigger port but you'll have to change the size of your L2 port.. it will sound better becuase that little port wont work as well as a larger port. Look up on google the RE box calulator to help with tuning.
this may be a noobish question... but how is it tuned to 27hz when the port is so small? i thought the lower the frequency is, the bigger the port has to be?
you dont have backed carpet do you?
How do you tune a box ??
27 hz is the roll off, Alpine recomends 33 hz.. but i found 35 hz to be about right, plus try making the port around 12 x 3 by 35" long with 2 cu ft in the box after sub and port displacement
say man where exactly did u get the specs?
Tu subwoofer y tu cajon son muy buenos Pero el forrado echa aperder todo el trabajo
Wat is tune to....could u show the whole design
you just need to measure behind your seats. i just installed a box i made with an alpine type s 12 in a guys truck and it was only 5" deep, but it the sub wouldnt fit in the box so i had to make a plate to bolt it to to give it clearance.
Scott, go to parts-express dot co m and have a look at the Pioneer shallow subs like the TS-SW3001S4 12", 20 -- 230 h z, 93 d b 1w/1m -- 3 3/4" mounting depth. They make a couple of 10"s too.
what is the hight and the width of this box?
is this for a 12'' or 10''
low tune with no port area is gonna cause a bunch of compression and not get loud
nice box. should have used some 45's though, just for extra strength.
i dont understand why people run the mouth its your box if it sounds good fuck what it looks like
@hunter1shot IF this sounded amazing imagine what a truly 'Perfect' box would sound like...
If this is what alpines box specs are for a type R 12... they need to fire their box designer. nice job tho, dont be afraid to throw in some internal bracing to solidify the enclosure.
@hunter1shot can u post all the dimensions i the descreption. i got my type r coming in the mail and i need to get crackin on a box lol
may i recommend use a drill bit to drill holes before you drill the screw so your wood wont crack
@TREMOR45 why would you use 3 inch ports when you follow the directions from alpine. READ THE DESCRIPTION!!
what is the exact measurements for a sealed for a 10" alpine type R!!?!?!
Which curves your hands!
NEED MORE PORT AREA
@Blessthejump idk i used a template that came with the sub
if you call alpine and talk to their tech guys theyll give you a different box enclosure/ tuning size. More ideal than the one in the manual
Wats the lenght breadth width?
what are the measurements of the box?
so how the sq?
good...
Can you post dimensions or a link to a diagram? I'm looking to build a ported box for my type r 12" because my box right now sucks
@chepevargas yeah next time i will this time i used a staple gun not screws
i did rush it and this was my first box so it is what it is. I just built a t-line box for this sub and it is far better the new vid should be up this week so check it out.
@TEHSWOLEONE yeah well i never did it before so it is what it is
@davidshooterman it does slam
wait a sec, that's way bigger than 1.9 cubic feet right? what are the dimensions?
i got pretty much the same size but the port is a bit shorter, check it out!
@redman1333 i don't remember i got the specs off alpines website though
ai galera to com uma dúvida aqui to querendo fazer uma bazuca com um falante e uma 405 me ajudam a somar litragem pra essa caixa
@hunter1shot wow were i live 3/4'' mdf wood cost $60 dollers
kudos.. people being dicks about your box but.. that's better than I could ever do!
@kcox669live ill check it out. i just get so many hater comments from people who don't know what they are talking about.
i Bought 2 quarter sheets for $11 each at home depot but if you go to menards it is cheaper
Box measures please!
@PDbasstube i know it was my first box though so i didn't expect it to be perfect but it still sounds amazing. Also check out my new box i just made its a lot better.
@agonz91 i used a nail gun not screws
i love how at 0:18 the L port wall isnt aligned perfectly
Pre drill next time good job buddy
ure supposed to use spray glue or contact cement to put the carpet on not staples. it causes it to stretch when you push it around over your cars carpet because of friction
como fazer caixa mtl 2 pode me passa as medidas alto falante 15 e 18 polegadas
ok ok simmer down pal, sheesh. I just built a box and getting ready to upload the vid. you should come and see how it's done the right way.
Specs?
@dXMETRIXb i used a nail gun should of used screws though
needs more port area
Nailgun FTL. Nice box tho brah
you can't predrill holes when you use a nail gun
U sound like my old buddy Steve???
@suzukiracr1 yeah i realized i tuned this box way too low
medidas?
@christianchattoo 3/4 inch MDF
