The Grimm Variations | Official Trailer | Netflix
The Netflix Series "The Grimm Variations" starts streaming Wednesday, April 17, only on Netflix!
Grimms' Fairy Tales get a bold reboot on Netflix, with character concepts by CLAMP, screenplay by Michiko Yokote, music by Akira Miyagawa, and animation by WIT Studio!
Once upon a time, brothers Jacob and Wilhelm collected fairy tales from across the land and made them into a book. They also had a much younger sister, the innocent and curious Charlotte, who they loved very much. One day, while the brothers were telling Charlotte a fairy tale like usual, they saw that she had a somewhat melancholy look on her face. She asked them, "Do you suppose they really lived happily ever after?"
The pages of Grimms' Fairy Tales, written by Jacob and Wilhelm, are now presented from the unique perspective of Charlotte, who sees the stories quite differently from her brothers.

The Grimm Variations | Official Trailer | Netflix
/ @netflixanime
Inspired by the classic Brothers Grimm stories, this anthology features six fairy tales with a dark twist, exposing the shadowy side of human desire.
It’s like someone found the original Brothers Grimm stories and thought “how can I take this further”.
Have you read the stories by the Brother's Grimm.
@@inotaishu1 have you read the bedtime stories like Hansel and Gretel or red riding hood and cinderella?
@@akbarrmd7714 i read all of the fairy tales that Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm collected.
Here's another question: What other stories are next?
Was thinking about Tales of the Jedi when I saw 'anime'... ah, my favourite stories when I was young...
I really like this idea, retelling classic Grimm fairytales as dark (if not darker) as they were originally told with a bit of modern flair.
I liked how despite the changes they maintained the core concepts, such as the “wolf” being an “insatiable liar” and the “Brennen Musicians” storyline being about misfits finding their place in the world
The original were dark af.. disney made them lame
@@darianstarfrog it’s actually hard to know which version is the “original” since they were originally oral tradition, I once heard that the oldest recorded Cinderella actually has her forgiving her stepsisters
Trust me, these are no longer retellings of those stories, just on the trailer lone it is clear that they only use them as loose inspirations.
Ever read the Fable series or played the game The Wolf Among Us? It’s a similar idea.
The fact that the character designs are made by CLAMP who did _Cardcaptor Sakura_ and animated at WIT Studio (Attack on Titan’s earlier seasons, _Spy x Family)_ makes this a huge win and a must watch. I honestly hope for a reboot to _Cardcaptor Sakura._ Crazy to think that Netflix announced this Anime 2-3 years ago and now is finally getting a release next month, looking forward to these six different Grimm Fairy Tales with a Dark Twist and I’m more interested in the _Bremens Towns Musicians_ episode as the Dog, Cat, Rooster and Donkey are now portrayed as four human ladies instead of the actual animals.
don't know if ccs needs a reboot, the original series holds up very well and you have the sequel series getting a second season sometime in the near future (the clear card arc).
the vibes is also like 'metallic rouge' vibes.
@@kevinericson4357 how so
@@MatthewLoh-ru1mw i mean, the futuristic vibes.
would love them to reboot the story for tsubasa chronicles
Netflix: let's turn Hansel & Gretel into promised neverland
It sort of already is, though.
@slashine1071 yes but Hansel and Gretel doesnt have an anime art style until now
Omg I wasn't the only one thinking that thank god
@@mandiragupta1698 Haha nope. It was VERY Promised Neverland esque even with the orphanage type place and having a "mama" figure.
except its doesnt ruin story after the children group enters the "free roam"
CLAMP was all I needed to see. I'm invested.
On God they have such distinct character designs imo from code geass to Tsubasa chronicles to doing vanguard now I love clamps designs
Who that
Mm m n mm@@JohnWick-ut1tj
@@philliprosewood7049 funny you should say that: they are also doing a new Code Geass OVA series (Rose of the Requiem)
@@JohnWick-ut1tj CLAMP is a manga group of four women. They've been creating manga since the 80s, and as of today have written and illustrated about 150 volumes and 25 series. They're my favourite manga artists, though sadly they're not so well-known/popular today (they were bigger in the 90s and 2000s). Here's a list of some of their major works (albeit their minor series are worth reading, too): -RG Veda (1989-1996) -Tokyo Babylon (1990-1993) -X/1999 (1992-2003) -Magic Knight Rayearth (1993-1996) -Wish (1995-1998) -Cardcaptor Sakura (1996-2000) -Angelic Layer (1999-2001) -Suki (1999-2000) -Chobits (2000-2002) -Tsubasa (2003-2009) -xxxHolic (2003-2011) -Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card (2016-2023)
This is an interesting. The anthology of stories is told not by the Brothers Grimm but their younger sisters perspective as she twist the original narrative into something much darker.
I thought so too but it's weird that her "versions" take place in cultural settings that don't seem like she would have knowledge of to base her stories in if she really lived in the same time period as her "brothers", like Japan in the Meiji period and an apocalyptic future where hypertechnology(?) exists, then again I'm only on ep 2 and maybe she's got something or someone supernatural that gives her that knowledge idk.
@@Feathertail2205or maybe it's all just her imagination
@@MatthewLoh-ru1mw That is still based on real-life cultures, so that's still pretty weird.
@@Feathertail2205 true, but who knows? 🤷 She could be twisting them for her own curiosity
CLAMP's horror anime?! Can't wait. What a miracle!
It's not CLAMP's first horror anime. you maybe already know.
From what I know it's not all horror.
Oh boy I’m jealous you now get to experience Shiki for the first time. Almost certainly the best horror anime!
you need to watch BLOOD C another collab from them it’s great
@@alexandra.viajerazen blood c. I heard name but haven’t watch. The thanks
Glad to see CLAMP is still pumping out new stuff!!
Only character designs.
How long has it been since CLAMP last did an anime of their own?
@@FernandoRamos-ec6bvThey've finished the Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card manga last year. The new season for it should come out later this year.
I mean, sure, comparing this to Cardcaptor Sakura would be a catchy phrase but guys 😭 CLAMP wrote Tsubasa & Blood-C & designed for Code Geass. They are well in the same veins as this.
Not to mention RG Veda, Tokyo Babylon, and X/1999.
Code Geass' design is iconic
Magic knight rayearth
I just watched the first one. And god dam. ***spoiler warning*** She’s an absolute psychopath. She wasn’t abused by her stepsister. But instead she manipulated everyone around her with sweet smiles and apology’s. She talks to a doll which has an ego of its own which is just a self projection of her own intelligence and she treats other people as dolls or playthings. I loved it. A really good take of the Cinderella movie we all know and love. Must watch
In my opinion, it really was the most unsettling of all the stories. She fucked them up so bad that getting them disowned and becoming homeless was the sisters winning and getting a happy ending.
The second most messed up being the Pide Piper one, but that’s carried in that department by the teacher being a… “creep”
Those fairy tales are definitly not for childrens.
Yet disney still turned them into a family movies
Yes kind of grimm tales
We know.
The original tales were always really dark, disney just made them family friendly
"Family friendly" changed over time.@@galactg9218
Never realized that Code Geass was the standard CLAMP design
The standard clamp design, as you put it, is older than code glass.
CLAMP has changed styles tho they got a certain feeling, tbh I miss their old school bishojo style, it was super exaggerated indeed but man the aesthetics they carried were wild af, I'm sad they'll never finish X-1999
@@RaifSeverence I mean, OP calling it the standard already implies it predates Code Geass. Like, how could it designed by a standard, if it were not set beforehand.
@@loonzoldickYeah. I still tune in to see if they’re bringing back X, but I haven’t heard any updates.
Imagine telling your little sister who love Cardcaptor Sakura a new Clamp story and then let them watch this. Thankfully, I watch the trailer and let her watch when she is older.
Really puts the "grim" in "Grimm".
I mean “Grimm” is also a German word no longer in common use that means something like deep rage, fury.
In the grim Darkness of the far Future, there is only Grimm!
This is so good. It's really more of a bit of grimm, a bit of black mirror, and a bit of junji ito. The music and animation is also great. S2 is a must.
Fr fr 💯😂
If the old Disney had a baby with black mirror and raised by anime
yes, could someone please explain about the hansel n gretel? bcz idk about the original story
I was already on board for weird takes on Grimm fairy tales, but then I saw it was a CLAMP/WIT collaboration. I am 100% here for it.
A DARK FANTASY THRILLER REBOOT TO THE CLASSIC "GRIMMS' FAIRY TALES" ANIMÉ ANTHOLOGY SERIES? WOW! 🧚☠️📖📺🤯
Ummm all those classic stories are already dark for examples in the original Cinderella the stepsisters cut off their toes to fit into the glass slippers and later on Cinderella's birds peck their eyes
I mean the fourth one with the elves takes place in the modern world
@@PhilCrownzHm i missed that. Guess ive watched the censored version when i was a kid
Now that's how to adapt public domain properties
Happy to see CLAMP is making something incredible again. Their character designs are always top notch.
CLAMP is a big name in the anime industry, Enough to get me invested in this!
Damn the Cinderella episode is wild.
Yup. She is a straight up psychopath and villain here
Am the I the only one getting 2000s anime vibes from this art style
Clamp...
no you're definitely not the only one, this artstyle brings back so many memories
it’s CLAMP style 🔥🔥🔥
Clamp the group that made Cardcaptor Sakura made this? How wonderful and wicked
Finally some good original stuff from Netflix. It's been a while.
They’ve been doing this for awhile mate.👌🏼
I was just talking about CLAMP and their work a few days ago, what a delight to see them coming out with something new and somewhat more akin to their older work like Tokyo Babylon, X/1999, and even Tsubasa, which had darker elements. I’m in.
An anime about the tales of the brothers Grimm in delightfully dark detail Yes please
"This is not your own Fairy Tales Story you ever imagine"
Me as German, who loves the original tales from Grimm, who always are fucked up... I love it!
I love Clamp, they did Multiverse and time loops way before it was in style!
I died when the lover got kicked in the face by his girl 😂😂
CLAMP + WIT + Grimm = PERFECCIÓN
It’s like seeing JJ Villiard’s version of the fairy tales on adult swim. If only Red Hood could get animated like this
Yeah, except villard's fairy tales was animated in a very poor, very trashy cringe way (like a bad trips from drugs). This animation (TGV) is more put together and more refined to look at.
@@joshdegroot3910 sorry for being grammar police but “expect” or “except”? And I think that animation style was the hook, the guy used to work on MAD TV animated series
Creepy tales with CLAMP character designs? YES PLEASE😍😍😍
At first, I thought it was the same animation studio that did Code Geass, didn't know CLAMP was also involve. The character designs sure screams CLAMP... but in a Code Geass style.
Did you know that Clamp are the ones that created the design for Code Geass?
That was ONE brilliant concept, hats off to the mind of the author/writer/mangakai! And the crew ofc!
I know I’m no anime/manga expert but its hard to believe this is CLAMP’s work, it’s so dark, gritty, and chaotic. I mean I’ve seen “Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle”, but the main characters are downright murderous.
Have you ever watch Code Geass? It's also CLAMP work, and the mc just straight using people(even himself) like tools and chess piece(at least he do it for his sister)
@@TruongNguyen-vy7rwSorry, nope. Again, no expert. I mostly know those big-name mainstream anime, even some I’m never watched.
This is not CLAMP's "work" - they merely provided the character designs, as they did with Code Geass. The story is not written by them.
Grimm's fairy tales but unhinged
Not quite unhinged for a Grimm's fairy tale. If you look at the originals and not the modern and Disney versions you'll see they can be pretty dark. If I remember right the step sisters in Cinderella had they're eyes pecked out by birds at the end.
@@firehaven6183plus they cut parts of their feets to fit into the slipper
I'm such a huge CLAMP fan so I'm defiantly gonna watch this. CLAMP also did the character design for Code Geass and I love this is very similar.

Always been dark...
@@ihatehumans487 I know. Imagine my horror when I later came to find out the original, horrifying version of those classic fairy tails
Grimm fairytales are already dark. We were just given *very* watered down versions of them when we were kids. I will say, Cinderella being obsessed with her stepsisters to the point of murder was not an interpretation I was expecting.
Fairytales used to be dark until Disney sugarcoat anything for modern kids sensibility
Can't wait to watch some of good grimm's story in Cinderella. Hope it'll be good as becoming a villain

0:55-1:08 - I could’ve sworn this musical piece sounds very familiar put can’t pin point the origins on where it came from. All I know was that it plays when a team is defeated in shame and also when it was played in _Space Jam_ when the Tune Squad were badly injured and defeated by the Mon-Stars.
Funeral March by Chopin.
