Points are awarded differently in standard BJJ tourneys. Hence why there's been an onset of different ones popping up like the Metamoris, EBI, etc., that are submssion oriented, meaning that the match we just saw would've ended in a draw, or some kind of sudden death with weird rules by the end -- and Ontiveros may still win that match, 'cause she is _good_. But not too shabby for a multitasker in Grasso, I'd say. Ontiveros is legit guard player, and the _only_ thing she does is bjj under the rules that they competed at... I mean, just imagine them fighting under MMA rules -- considering the kind of punch Grasso packs, and the fact that she kept top position on her in a consistent basis, she would probably eviscerate her. This is what happens when non-specialists compete with specialists. Same thing happened to Benson Henderson in more than one BJJ tourney, I believe. If anything, this is a good test for Grasso, and losing to this girl is good in the sense that she would know there's always someone better and she wouldn't get a big head from winning in MMA the way she's doing until now. The simple fact that she shows up to these things speaks good of her and her drive to learn and succeed.

Alejandro Castellanos You make a great point. I'm a kickboxer/karateka that recently started mma. I'm not very knowledgeable in grappling, but I see the need for it. I tend to lean more towards submission only than tournaments like this. (It'd imagine holding positions and getting transitions will make your bjj more effective.)

Mm just so you know... Erika is 20 pounds lighter than Alexa Grasso in that fight. Alexa doesn't even come close to passing her guard and when the fight ends Erika just swept her and is in a more controlling position. Oh... Also, this is grappling, not mma thus making the comparison with invicta very dumb.
