    • I have to agree with Joe here too. I keep trying to make a "Current Projects" box work for me but it just gets pushed to the side and a new one takes its place or things just get piled around it. The only way I remember things exist is if I can see them, even if that means shuffling around the pile every single day.

    • Cas, I guess you will just have to find a new category for those of us like Joe. It is imperfect perfectionism. It works for many of us. Maybe you have a bug for that? I don’t know, I’m not an entomologist. Things are not black-and-white. Please leave some room and acceptance for those of us like Joe and not pigeon hole us into your four insects.

I would also not want that basket bc, yes, things would be hidden and never re-emerge. He knows his organizational style, and that is relevant. I can also relate with researching things online, and having so many choices that you can never tell which one is best for you!

    • Lol that's me, with a lot of things. I'm a bee/lady bug. I hate labeling, even though I like a little bit more organisation than what I usually have time or energy to create. I only label things that look too similar to other that I can't tell what they are (I e. Certain spices, or cables, etc ), or things that are in containers that are not see through if that's the only way I have to store them.

    • My people! The labels and the baskets! I can put things away in a home and remember them but if it isn't it's home and just a pile basket, it doesn't work. They will sit there in that box forgotten. And labels... I plan to label the pantry for the kids' sake but I hate labels for my own stuff. I have very few things I label, usually it's the long-term storage of totes that look like each other that gets a label. Something in an office like this would drive me crazy. IF I had a basket, no labels, I know what is in them.

  • I tell so many people that eating the frog does not work for me, why, and what I do instead. I will procrastinate if I have to eat that frog. I need a quick hit of dopamine to get started and I need to build up gradually. If I'm having trouble getting started, I start small, and usually somewhere else. Need to get the main rooms party ready? I tidy my tiny master bathroom. That's a 1-2 minute job. Done! Dopamine! I moved into my bedroom and make my bed, check for surface clutter and take out the dirty laundry. Done! More dopamine!! I work my way toward the big scary. For years it cased marriage stress because I wasn't helping with what was needed and it also caused a lot of negative self talk. An ADHD diagnosis later, I understand WHY I NEED to do it this way. So I still do the same thing. But now I celebrate it. I've hacked my brain and I get the job done. I also know that an ADHD brainer tends to either be an object in motion or an object at rest, not switching easily between the modes. So if I can lie to myself with a small reward to get started, I will keep going until it's all done, and not just stop at the small accomplishment. Example. I will make coffee once I load the dishwasher. But now that ice loaded the dishwasher, obviously I'm gonna hand wash those few hand wash only items. So now the counters are cleared for wiping. Better switch/start the laundry while I'm up. Etc. Eventually I get to sit down, relax with my coffee, and enjoy a clean space, and not feel bad about how long it's gonna take me to move again. I know the tortoise always beats the hare in the story, but it's okay to be the hare. 😊

  • The bottom line is that it's about respect on both sides. Don't do to someone what you would not want that person to do to you. If it's your space, he can help but should walk away if his help turns into pushiness and control. Same for his space and yourself. If you do a space that is both of yours then communication and compromise is what it's about not his way or your way. We are all different which is the way it is suppose to be. We did not come into this life to live with clones of ourselves. This is what worked for my husband and myself. Respect. It's about respect and love for each other. 🙏❤️🙏❤️

    @Meeshwell@Meeshwell27 күн бұрын
    • My whole goal was to get it done "good enough to move on" so he could actually use and enjoy the space. Joe really wanted to do each task slow and methodical, which is awesome, but sometimes done today is better than perfect tomorrow. He loves his office and has tweaked and changed a few little things. It's so much easier to adjust than it is to start from scratch. I was pushy, that's for sure, but I think he needed a push in order to get to the point where he could enjoy his space. For six long months he had to work in a cluttered and messy office, now he loves being in there!!

      @Clutterbug@Clutterbug27 күн бұрын
    • It did look like he needed some motivation, and like you said in the video, when you built the bookshelf then it inspired him to work on the desk. I think that kind of motivation is really helpful. But pushing him to do things your way was probably not helpful, and he was telling you how he wanted his office to be, so I think it would’ve been best to respect those decisions.

      @Meeshwell@Meeshwell27 күн бұрын

So clean and so open and he has kept just what he loves. I just let him decide the time on his own. But it began with the rest of the house between my start of minimalism and him joining in. ❤. His den was a daunting task 😮

  • This was my fav video EVER! Why? Because this is where many ppl live most days. With a man who is soooo different, yet has so many strengths and compatible skills to yours. He’s a great guy though he works at a different pace, and he’s obviously brilliant at reading schematics. My husband and I just built a velvet bed frame and only 8 of 28 pieces were numbered. SMH and cussed a little bit. So I have more appreciation for your awesome Joe than you might think. You 2 make me smile❤

  • I actually laughed out loud several times while watching this video! My husband and I are both procrastinators. I think he would agree, he’s worse than I am! But still, we have difficulties getting started. I’m learning so much from watching your videos and putting it into practice. I recently cleaned, declutterred and organized my pantry and he’s actually happy I did it, for a change. What usually happens with us is I wait for him to declutter and organize one of his spaces. Then, I get frustrated and declutter and organize it myself. He’s usually appreciative that I’ve done it, but within a month it’s right back to the way it was. He likes to pile things! But, I totally understand how you feel about wanting to choke him! In the past I asked him to put the ice maker in our freezer. I like ice in my drinks and hate ice trays! Well, I waited for 2 years! The water line had already been installed so the actual ice maker was all that was left to do. After 2 years I finally found the fridge manual and installed it myself! And it actually worked! That was a big confidence builder! So, now, if he makes me wait too long I try to do whatever I need done myself. I’ve also decided recently, if I can’t do it myself I’m going to contact Angie’s List or Thumbtack and have them do it! I love your videos and you’ve helped me so much! I can’t wait for the next one!

I’m like Joe and I work at a 🐌 pace at 71 I don’t move very fast and I procrastinate so bad so now it takes me 6 months to even get started on a project and he works all day it takes me all day to do the necessary tasks so I think I’m just HOPLESS!!

I've learned how to get my way by letting him think most of the ideas are his. 😉 All in good fun, and that's what's important. My frequent saying is always, "Babe, have I failed you yet?" He always says no, babe. ♥️

  • You two look like my husband and I. I noticed that it looks like Joe went in order down the list. My husband's list always looks so complicated to me but I've learned that arguing or trying to change his mind is wasting both of our time. My house has been sorted to his room or mine. Gradually I have talked over more of the house. He still has his side of the closet, his office and the whole garage. Sometimes I glance at his areas but it's just painful. I'm just thankful that doors were invented. Love your show and so grateful that my husband doesn't watch because he would want shelves and things hanging on every wall in every room. Not me but have by watching come to understand the differences between us.❤

  • So nice to see Joe. He sure is a good sport! We have a basement declutter that needs to happen one day. Right now, we are storing a lot of my parents' stuff. They sold their house. They put most everything else into pods and left for Florida. When the "new" houses renovation is done, hopefully next month, I'll get everything moved over there. It's a lot. I am looking forward to seeing their reactions. The "new" house belonged to my Mothers parents. It looks so different. I'm really happy for them. It will be a safe place to age in place.

We had a corner where a fireplace had been, and the previous owners took it out. So dental crown moulding, chair rail, baseboards and wallpaper all need to come down. It was a complete overhaul. I vowed after this, we are never working on another house project together. We will be hiring professionals.

  • I absolutely LOVE the desk. Well worth the wait. I think whenever we work with our significant other, it can bring out the worst in us. I tried to think of a time that hubby and I worked on a project together where we didn't have at least 1 mini-argument - nope, can't think of a single time. Most of the time we have several medium to large arguments which usually results in my walking away at least once. Joe's office turned out amazing and it looks so much better than the "before". Love it.
