  • 50+ years ago my mother (from WWII Germany) sat me down and taught me first to darn socks and then hemming and the lost art of 'mending' rips or tears in clothing as you have beautifully demonstrated. Her grandmother taught her these skills in order to be able to look well dressed and tidy even in the midst of times of war and commodity shortages. I was born in America and know very few others who can, let alone are willing to, mend things. Most people just toss the item to then spend money to buy a new one. When my kids were young and I and my husband were in college, money was tight so I utilized my learned mending skills along with imagination to be able to keep their clothes tidy , clean and repaired.     • I was born in 1941. Mum and gran taught us to knit, darn and patch our torn clothes. My grand children bring their torn clothes for repairs. I should get that iron on patch she used. I do blanket stitching on the inside of the patch. Her work is super neat. First time I’ve seen this. Bravo lady. God bless

    • There is far too much of the throw it away and buy new attitude now, there are shops where you can buy so cheaply, it’s made cheaply and not made to last, no one wants to repair, sadly. I have clothes from thirty years ago, they’ve been well looked after and mended if it was needed. Why is it so difficult these days? My grown up children bring things to me to be sewn and repaired, but sadly, at the moment only one has learned to do the same thing. Hopefully they will all realise that it is better to repair than replace.

  • i have been using this stitching technique for over 30 years. when i was teaching, i tried to incorporate the "older" skills of crochet, knitting, darning, and embroidery as skills for my middle/high schoolers to practice during down time when they had completed their assignments. kept them quiet, taught them skills, they saw results for other uses, and they enjoyed the extra activities they were allowed. thank you for trying to show these to others. practice ... shaq didn't make baskets the first time he shot a basketball. :)

  • I enjoy your sewing, it reminds me of my late parents and so wish I would’ve learned more from them. My mom was a seemstress and my Dad a tailor. I used to enjoy cutting patterns out with my mom and watch my dad make me a blazer(it doesn’t fit me anymore but I still have it). I’m not sure how old you are, but you seem young by the look of your hands, thanks for sharing.

  • Nice work. My mother was a tailor by trade and made all my clothes by hand when I was a kid. This video reminded me of the hours I spent watching and learning from her. She had me sewing on buttons at the age of 2! lol

I learned so much from working summers with him that I was able to renovate my first house all on my own. I was the only teen age girl I knew that got power tools for Christmas! They've both always been at the top of my list when I count my blessings.

    • It was the most irritating video I have ever watched. The stitching took literally forever, the result was extremely unrealistic,.. the whole thing was extremely slow, useless, and depressing. And I have never felt depressed even a little in my entire life.

    • Hola disculpe mi ignorancia,...pero el trozito de tejido igual a la camisa, de donde lo sacò,...estaba abajo del triángulo blanco ???🤔 Yo no tengo ni una sola camisa qué tiene el triángulo blanco donde abajo aparece justo el trocito igual qué se necesita !!!🤷‍♂️

  • Precioso trabajo, excelente idea además d q nos ayuda a ahorrar , nos permite hacer un ejercicio d concentración y nos proporciona una terapia. Gracias por permitirnos aprender y en mi caso reforzar lo aprendido. Pues ya tengo 69 años y aprendí a remendar, zurcir coser y bordar, todo por necesidad.     • Éste comentario es perfecto, a mí nunca me gustó la costura de pequeña ni de jovencita pero, no creo que nadie de las que se definen amantes de ella hayan hecho tantas cosas como yo, la razón es qué ma ayuda muchísimo con mi estado anímico, emocional...     • Se llama pegamento de vaselina. Está hecho de algodón y es similar a la tela. Es preferible comprar el material fino, utilizarlo y al momento de pegarlo debe estar bien calentado. Puedes comprarlo en tiendas que venden mercería, hilo y botones. Siempre está presente en estos lugares. Mis mejores deseos de éxito y buena suerte :) 🌹🌹💖
