The story of the BMW 8 Series begins with the BMW M1 mid engined supercar. While that car was a bit of a failure for BMW, it had a strong influence on the company’s future. Shortly after the groundbreaking 635CSI, BMW went even nuttier and built the V12 powered E31 850i. Not to be outdone by themselves, BMW made an EVEN NUTTIER coupe, the 850CSI. McLaren used the same engine in the McLaren F1! Join James as he explores the 8 Series’ awesome history, ending with the amazing G15 8 Series, and the mighty M8!

Always been my favorite! Almost purchased one once but then watched my buddy spend mucho Dinero trying to keep his 80's M5 running as it self destructed in front of us... and then I went to the Toyota dealership instead.

It's the other way around, Supra Mk III was first (1986) and then BMW came up with similar design. And now history mirror-repeats itself!
@@veevoir and let's be honest. The mk5 Supra looks quite frankly NOTHING like the new Z4. Now, yes, it was built off the chassis and with the same engine, but, imo, I like it more for that reason.

@MrKalashnik0va That's what I was saying. I said the only issue I am worried about is the price to pay when it needs to be repaired. Sorry if I got a bit pissy, but it really isn't that bad. If anything, I think it's underrated. People are constantly saying that it looks like a BMW Z4. I don't think so. I like the car overall, and that is me being honest. I am usually never in denial when it comes to stuff like this.

Some of them really are not that bad to work on and parts dont cost what you'd think. There's few models tho that are ridiculous to work on and over engineered. Some of the parts are way over priced. I'm not into paying bunch more just for name.

Great to hear you recovered, youd have been well miss by family and friends, and the community. I just had a heart attack myself and further complications, was just discharged 3 days ago. Your videos got me through weeks of sitting in a hospital bed, with no visitors. It can really make you realize what, and who, are important. Thanks for sharing the story.

I was on ECMO a few years ago after a motorcycle wreck. It saved my life to. Amazing machines. Not to many hospitals in the country have them.
Chris Covington out here in NM we just started a program where not only do we have ECMO in an ambulance we have docs that can start it in the field! It’s the first time it’s been done I’m the U.S. but it’s got a lot of promise.

In college, I was a chauffeur for a concierge service, where companies and rich folk ordered a driver for long drives. ie business trips and sometimes vacations. I had this one client, an architect, whom I drove quite some time. Who had an 850. It was a blast as it was a once in a lifetime experience. The guy was a bit of a self-centered prick but it was clear to me that one of the few things in life he cared most for other than himself was his 850. He drove the absolute bloody hell out of the car. He even pushed me to drive as fast as I dared possible. Just once I maxed it out and it was flat out one of my most memorable driving experiences. As per company protocol I couldn't drive faster than 20 miles above the speed limit otherwise, they wouldn't cover the costs of a ticket and legal stuff. This was around ten years ago and at that time I drove this guy, for like 15 months, he totaled his car 3 to 4 times. I heard he had totaled it around 8 times total. So there is only guessing how many times he'd done this. But his love for the car was so strong, he kept buying the car back from the insurance company. Have the damage repaired and drove the living hell out of it again. That's some serious commitment.

Sometimes I get emotional when I talk about what I'd been through dealing with my heart, but because God answered my family and friends who prayed for me I was blessed to hear that like me, you are a survivor also. I would like to clarify some things in this comment section about the relationship between BMW and Toyota. Yes , the electronics , the engine and the suspension are from BMW but that doesn't mean Toyota was sitting on its ass while BMW did all the work and Toyota just strolled in and slapped it's badge on BMW's work. During the development phase, Toyotas engineers took the BMW engine and put it through *TOYOTAS OWN RELIABILITY TEST* everything on that engine was tested , even individual bolts that hold the brakes was tested, Thanks to Toyota , the new Z4 roadster is more reliable than it should and been, plus BMW and Toyota co-developed the chassis. This isn't another GM type of funny business of badge engineering, in fact , EU law prohibits badge engineering. My next door neighbor had one of these when I was growing up and I recall thinking it was the coolest car that I had ever seen. It looked like a spaceship and when he gave me a spin in it, that V-12 engine was just incredible when it opened up on the road. A fantastic car.
