Why is Mauritius So Rich?
Despite Mauritius' small size and geographical isolation, the country has thrived compared to other African nations. It has consistently ranked highly in various indices, such as the Rule of Law Index, the Index of African Governance, and the United Nations Human Development Index.
With its competitive, broad-based economy, Mauritius is attracting considerable foreign investment and drawing high-net-worth individuals and families from around the globe. According to the latest Africa Wealth Report, Mauritius is ranked among the top 10 wealthiest countries in Africa and is expected to experience the highest wealth growth rate at 75% over the next decade.
This will make it the fourth fastest-growing country in the world over this period in millionaire growth percentage terms, after Vietnam, India, and New Zealand. Mauritius has grown to become a top investment destination in Africa and a hub for business as it is perfectly positioned between Asia and Europe. In this video, We will be talking about the economic history of Mauritius, analyzed to identify key factors contributing to its achievements. Welcome back to the new tourist channel where we discuss important facts about Africa and the world at large.

  • Hi from Belgium. I had the opportunity to spend some vacation in Mauritius. I've traveled quite a good deal, both professionally and as a tourist, to very different countries worldwide (as different as the USA, Russia, Malawi, Jordan, South Africa or Thailand, to name a few...); Mauritius is definitely in my top three. Not just because of the beauty of the island, but also because of the natural kindness and tolerance of its population; they have a lesson to teach the world on how to peacefully live together. And it's a safe place.

    • @@chicagomike I don't get it wrong. Actually, there are some issues between the French-speaking and the Dutch-speaking communities, but no "ethnic fighting" - even at somme communes around Brussels where the issue is indeed more sensitive than where I live (170 kms from Brussels). It's more like two different people with two different cultures living each on its side of the cultural divide, but peacefully still. And the fight if any is mostly political, and often exaggerated in the media by some politicians and their supporters; most people just don't care and live their lives.

    • @@chicagomike I found out that Belgium 🇧🇪 was once part of The Netherlands 🇱🇺 but there was a mixture of French, Dutch and Germans then it became a country on it's own.I think 🤔 it was actually a good move because it was a smaller portion of The Netherlands 🇱🇺 that was mixed whilst most of The Netherlands was strictly Dutch so it was a way of uniting all the mixed tribes found in one small area I guess 🤷🏽‍♂️.

  • The economy of Mauritius is generally well-rounded and a source of inspiration for many African countries. Conversely, there are socioeconomic achievements of other African countries that Mauritius can draw on as a source of inspiration. For instance, Mauritius could strive to catch up with some high-performing African countries in the arena of a lower debt per capita, better healthcare coverage and lower medical mortality rate, a higher net flow of capital into the country than out of it, better internet coverage and speed, lower unemployment rate, lower inflation rate, higher GDP per capita and higher purchasing power parity (PPP), and better corruption index. Mauritius' handling of diversity could be a source of inspiration for countries worldwide. 🙂

Ghana is not the next safest country in Africa there are many countries that are safer like aNamibia, Botswana, Tunisia, Seychelles, and the Gambia. Among the bigger population countries Ghana is safe but is still economically under developed when compared to the African giants like Nigeria, South Africa and Egypt. The three countries are the economic powerhouse of the continent but can also be one of its least safest per due to size and rapid economic growth and increased inequality between the richest and poorest segments of their societies and a tendency for corruption and in the case of Nigeria religious intolerance in certain parts of the country’s the legacy of Apartheid in South Africa

    • @@prospektarty1513 I wrote a long reply and lost it all because i put in links to verify the facts... but i'll retype this. Mauritius isn't "one of the safest countries in Africa" it is adjudged the safest country in Africa followed by Ghana. Just do your research and come back. And did you really say that Ghana is underdeveloped compared to Nigeria?? That's ridiculous! Ghana beats Nigeria in EVERY SINGLE IMPORTANT ECONOMIC METRIC out there. Don't let fancy words like "Giant" and "Largest Economy" trick you in this modern day where even my kids know how to use the internet to verify facts and better understand things. 1. HDI (Human Development Index)- It is used to distinguish whether the country is a developed, developing, or underdeveloped country, and also to measure the impact of economic policies on QUALITY OF LIFE. Ghana has an HDI of 0.632 and is the second country in West Africa after Cape Verde with the Highest HDI, the 12th country in Africa with the highest HDI and Nigeria has an HDI of 0.535, it is the 5th country in West Africa with the highest HDI in West Africa and the 28th country in Africa with the highest HDI. LOL you see the Giant is empty after all? Source: Wikipedia 2. GDP per Capita- This is where some not so well-educated Nigerians on the topic of Economics get lost (I say with respect and not a diss. If you knew what i'm about to say, you wont have said Nigeria is developed more than Ghana). It's easy to be the largest economy when you're by far the most populous country in africa and the 5th (or so) most populous country in the world. Nigeria has a higher GDP than Mauritius, Luxembourg and even the UAE (i believe) but its not better than any of these economes i mentioned. It's because the calculation of GDP favors large countries (large by population) but it's a mirage (most often). This is why we use GDP per Capita when we compare two countries by size of their economies. Per the World Bank data, the GDP per Capita of Ghana as at FY 2021 is $2,363.3 and GDP per Capita of Nigeria is $2,065.7. This means Ghana's economy on a fair comparison scale is 14.41% bigger (better) than Nigeria's economy. The figures for 2022 FY are yet to be vetted and published by the World Bank. Source: World Bank Website. I'll also direct you to a site (livingcost) search that site, they obtain data from the statistical department of countries and publish them, allowing you to compare countries. compare Ghana to Nigeria and learn my brother. Nigeria beats Ghana in NOTHING about good economy aside good afrobeats. Ghana doesn't only have the best jollof, Ghana beats Nigeria in Quality of Life by a HUGE MARGIN (no wonder all Nigerians are running to seek greener pastures in Ghana), Ghana is better than Nigeria on the corruption perception index, in safety, in Life expectancy, in Human Freedom Index, Monthly Salary After Tax (yes, the giant is goliath afterall, Ghana is David and the average Ghanaian earner is richer than the average Nigerian earner), Ghana has a lower income and wealth gap compared to Nigeria,... I love Nigeria and respect my Neighbor but respect your older brother too and don't let those funny words Giant and Largest economy trick you about Nigeria. Ghana is far ahead. If you want to rebut come with facts and sources...

  • I have had the opportunity to visit Mauritius from the US 9 times since 1985. Parts of the country are beautiful but over the past 30 years there has been relentless building both inland and along the coast which is destroying much of the natural beauty and for such a small country there are way too many automobiles. With the completion of a light rail system within the last couple of years hopefully the horrible Port Louis area traffic will be resolved. Despite all of this my wife and I will be returning again this Dec. to escape another New England winter.

    • Your comment is nonsensical since Mauritius _is_ a *_sub-Saharan_* African country itself. "Sub-Sahara" is not ethnicity as you imagine, although many folks in the "West" have a habit of turning geographical terms into euphemisms for "race." While persons of Indian descent may be a majority, a sizeable population of recent African origin reportedly makes up the next large segment of the Mauritian population. That component of recent African descent is not trifling, as evidenced by the primary language of the country and its culture. Compare this to the United States, where African-Americans allegedly make up 12 to 13 percent of the population, yet they have left a massive impression on that nation.

    • @@joebidet2050 Nah -- I'll leave clowning to you; it suits you trolls better. But on a more sober note, I would like to know: What *statistics source* on planet earth gave you the hairbrained notion that "crime, drugs, or h00kers" are the exclusive domains of Blacks in the U.S. I would like to examine the details said source provides the reader. A country that _disproportionately_ throws Blacks into prison for stuff they wouldn't lock their white counterparts for, not to mention slaughter young black males via police violence, will undoubtedly create a lot of absentee fathers -- not exactly rocket science, ya know. Add to that, taxpayer money being funneled to primarily white neighborhoods, leaving fertile ground for gangs and organized crime in marginalized communities. The U.S's. outdated 2nd amendment then adds "fuel to the fire," by making otherwise mundane crime violent many times over. Give me stats on which group commits domestic terrorism and hate crimes the most in the country, which group commits the most rape and sexual assault crimes, the most mass-shooting atrocities, which group primarily made up the January 6th thugs who attacked the Capitol -- my money is on whites, which is interesting considering they make up the most _privileged_ group in the country. I suppose the Indian ocean does not extend as far as mainland Africa's borders, eh -- "smart" guy? Let me guess, the name "Indian" must have bamboozled you? 😄
