The Romanovs. The History of the Russian Dynasty - Episode 7. Documentary Film. Babich-Design
All episodes: • The Romanovs. The Hist...
Emperor Nicholas I Pavlovich started his 30-year rule with suppressing the Decembrist Revolt. On 14 December, 1825, the day of taking oaths by the new tsar, over a thousand people, including women and children, died. The revolt’s ringleaders were executed, the participants were sent to exile. Later, when Nicholas asked his son what he would have done if he had been the tsar, the young Alexander answered: “I would forgive”. Alexander II Nikolayevich went down in history as liberator. He succeeded in doing the thing that none of his predecessor was able to: he abolished serfdom. However, together with the emancipation of peasants, a new power, unknown before, but unstoppable, unleashed…
The most vivid pages of Russian history and the establishment and consolidation of Russian state power are associated with the eighteen Russian Tsars of the House of Romanov which include such historic names as Peter the Great, Catherine the Great, Nicholas I and Alexanders I, II and III. The dynasty ended with the brutal assassination of the last Tsar, Nicholas II and his family by the Bolsheviks in Ekaterinburg in 1917.
The Romanov dynasty played a hugely important role in world history, and the series highlights the life stories and characters of the tsars, recounting their rise to power and their contribution to the dynasty, their merits and their faults, their achievements and mistakes, their victories and defeats in war.
The series also examines the Russian form of 'Caesarism' as a system of state administration - its advantages and drawbacks and how the Russian state changed under the Romanov's rule.
THE ROMANOVS is told in eight epic one-hour episodes using a unique combination of magnificent CGI animation and dramatic reconstruction with careful and accurate attention paid to each period.

The Actor for Alexander II is brilliant. He looks so much like real photographs of him, this entire series is just brilliant. I watched all of the videos and love it! The visuals are the best, and the voice is superb.
You could almost feel that that was the real Tsar Alexander ll !
@@homerpimpson7402 Exactly, my friend. It's as if the tsar jumped out of his grave to play his part. Outstanding. Actors are superb.
These Romanov series are made of pure gold. Not that kind of garbage you'll find on KZhead for the most.. Thank you for this outstanding documentary!
Thanks I produced this series .
Nerd
If every video on KZhead was as creatively and beautifully created as this series... I would never leave my house! BRAVO!
+David Flory My sentiments exactly.
Same. IAnd I personally appreciate the fact that unlike other documentaries that feature "cut-aways" to historians, biographers, etc, talking to the camera about the subject matter, this one solely has the faceless narrator doing all the of talking. It gives everything a better flow in my opinion.
Same with me
me too
+rvd356 I agree. I love how instead of that the documentary directly cites political writings of the time.
Thank you very much for making an English language version of this documentary. I learned a lot about Russian History and I want to learn more!
I love Russian history so much, I think it's best history, learn many from it.

Building the rails farther apart then normal was next level cunning. I certainly wouldn’t have even thought of making the railroads less functional for invading armies. Brilliant!
And the fact that it impacted WWII is fascinating.
Unbelievable foresight!!!!
He was brilliant
No, it was built that way because of steeper hills and rough terrain of russia. And either way there wasn't really a standard accepted gauge when Russia's first rail was built.
However, it also led to large logistical inefficiencies as rail shipped import/export cargo would have to be transferred at borders.
I'm Guyanese, and i watched all series in two days. Beautiful history and production
The quality of this series is just on another level; it's as intriguing as any drama on television.
these documentaries have taught me about russian history more than my russian history class and world history class in college.
This video is great, but only a drop in the ocean of information, the main points only. The video should encourage you to open books and start exploring more deeply. It is very interesting.
The widening of rail was so forward thinking and smart. Holy shit. Great job nick
The best Romanov documentary I've seen - well done!
Erik Schwartz
Erik Schwartz the best dynasty documentaries,i havent seen anything like this
the area in St. Petersberg where Alexander II was fatally wounded is the where the Church Of The Savior on Spilled Blood now stands. inside this church is a canopy on the exact spot he was murdered
I started watching episode 1 for only a few minutes with the intention of watching something else. Well, that didn’t happen. I got mesmerized and watched all episodes straight through for 8 hours. I wondered how Nicholas II came to power and his lineage. Now I know his history and that he is the great-great grandson of Catherine the Great. I learned a lot watching this. Thank you very much. You did a great job putting this video together.
I watched the whole series five times. Very proud of most of the tsars of my country.
vastnik shit
This documentary made my days more meaningful and led me to look at myself, my story, my actions and how I've been conducting my life. Hard work, effort, prudence, discipline. Pillars to never forget.
Nicholas was a great emperor. Yes, he didn’t want to be, but he had more determination and loyalty than any other. I admire him for doing a great job - the hardest job ever- even though he didn’t want it.
I don’t understand he did a lot of good to his country and peaple and was going to give more and more yet they were determined to kill him , this is crazy
To be honest yes,He was a great emperor . But Russia During Crimean war was exposed.Russia Proved to be Millitarly backward than Britain and France

What a sad and convoluted history for a country with such potential. Thank you for such marvellous films and sound. I thoroughly enjoyed the series.
I think this is a very good documentary movie about Russia's History ... I watched all of them. I think Tsar Nicholas I and his brother are very good man. They did not fight against each other for the throne ... It is a very rare on the game of throne all over the world, that is either you become a king/ king or you die ...
that railroad difrence, very wise indeed
yes, very smart,
+António Pinto the railroad difference may have caused delay in trade and transportation, but it safeguarded Russia's freedom in face of invasion. I wish all the countries which were invaded by Germany had such arrangement in mind
+António Pinto Ironically, a wise Romanov may have saved the hide of that Bolshevik butcher Stalin.
Everything in my country is WISE!!!! This is the greatest nation on Earth, we are EXCEPTIONAL!!!! U ALL SHALL SERVE US, BCS WE ARE GODS AND U ARE....well U ARE U.

I loved all of these it made me devour anything and everything I could possibly learn about Russia. I had no idea that they had such a rich and interesting history.
I feel bad for Nicholas...he knew he'd die but still wanted to do his job...and I started tearing up after seeing how much Alexander wanted to help the country and they still killed him 😢
Yes but The serfs didn't had work, house They need to pay the land owners And They were suffering

Clearly, suicide bombers are not a recent occurrence but Alexander was an enlightened and just ruler and deserved to live a full and happy life, not to be murdered at the hands of a suicide bomber.
A far leftie group, a precursor to the bolsheviks, murdered him.
All Russians are including Alexander the liberator we’re not exactly as saintly as they turned out to be Alexander was still a ruthless, autocrat and imperialist he subjugated thousands and millions of people in his wars of conquest, his forces committed mass of atrocities during the Russo Turkish war of 1878 and he also an actor genocide against the Circassian and population of the caucuses
Kinda ironic since Russia teamed up with Terrorist groups in the past

This series is an absolute GEM. Learning Russian history has never been better than to follow this excellent documentary.
Спасибо за отзыв ❤
This is by far the best documentary about the Romanov family I wish other documentaries were done like this. I noticed a lot of empresses were renamed either Maria or Katherine.
Alexander II was Russia's Abraham Lincoln
Alexander II is to be admired I think. Ah, if only he'd got away from the scene of the 7th attempt as quickly as possible.
I find it very ironic that Tsar Alexander II, a liberal, reformist and progressive, was assassinated not by some reactionary conservative, but by radical revolutionaries, who like the Tsar, wanted to change the Old Order.
Or maybe he should not have left the bulletproof carriage. But he was too kind a man not to.
+George Severn Seems like they always manage to assassinate the wrong person. Then again, in Alexander's case, they knew that his murder would cause his successor to be much more repressive thereby sowing the seeds for the revolution they hoped would help them seize power . Not all revolutionaries are dedicated to the greater good, some are quite ruthless, self-serving, and opportunistic. Not much better than the people they seek to overthrow.
+abc64pan These people are sinister. Evolution over Revolution.
+George Severn I second that.
Excellent work. High quality and full of details. I am sure it is a bit of propaganda as well, but it is so well done that I do not mind. I could watch for hours without hesitation.
I can't praise this series highly enough! Beautifully presented, and the actors are brilliantly cast.
Gotta respect Nicholas I for that badass morning gun kata regimen
That's some routine!!! And the actor looks great in his outfit; wonderful physique. Actor has beautiful eyes and I wonder if he is a well known actor in Russia as this is a Russian production. But I digress. This is an excellent production. The actor really "worked" it.
Most badass documentaries I've seen, bravo!
exceptionally well presented documentary. loved the artistic elements including all those which were taken from archive. excellent narrator, too. really beautiful presentation.
This is by far the best documentary series I've ever watched. Thanks for uploading.
This is so sad, 7 attempts! I cannot imagine living like that, constantly worried about being assassinated! If only he’d left right after the 7th one :(
A great production about the Romanov Dynasty and some Russian history.
I agree with SouthPark634 below - the actor playing Alexander II is an uncanny lookalike, superb ! Excellent series thus far. My only complaint is that the darker aspects of each of these two tsars and their reigns is rather brushed aside, but still good intelligent television.
I am now intensely interested in Russian history! We studied it at school in 1982 but it was not very deep, as it revolved more around the time of WWI, the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand etc. Great series!
The actor of Alexander II is so handsome
Excellent done. The Russians are so talented in art, song, opera, writing, composing music ice dance and making movies. The Russian soul is so sensitive and deeply connected with divinity. Every body watching this video serie can see what talented people Russians are. Watch some of their movies on youtube and you will feel how they touch your soul.I hope America and Rusland will work together and Europe and Rusland. In the future it will be very importens that all Christian countries will unite against Islam. No I am not Russian, but something about the Russian soul is very touching and beautiful.
I'm with David Flory. These are masterpieces.
It is captivating. This is the second series am watching of Star. First was Matahari and now this ... Bravo is the only word I can say 👍
It was so sad to see Alexander II die, man was the Model of every Leader you needed in time of Need, Imagine a World where his Reforms were all implemented, We would see a Russia that Is free and Liberal for centuries to come
Nicholas figures in an urban legend about the railroad from Moscow to Saint Petersburg. When it was planned in 1842, he supposedly demanded the shortest path be used despite major obstacles in the way. The story says he used a ruler to draw the straight line itself. However the false story became popular in Russia and Britain as an explanation of how badly the country was governed. By the 1870s, however, Russians were telling a different version, claiming the tsar was wise to overcome local interests that wanted the railway diverted this way and that. Actually what happened was that the road was laid out by engineers and he endorsed their advice to build in a straight line.
I downloaded ALL d episodes. The storytelling and teller are most captivating. I enjoy it. Highlight of my day to watch
Thanks so much for sharing this beautiful series, Amazing

This is one the best docu-series I've ever watched on You Tube. Very very informative, very well narrated, great editing and awesome art work, great all around. I think the only docu-series or documentaries I've watched that are better are the Ken Burns docu-series on PBS all of them are great. The Civil War, Prohibition, Baseball, World War 2 all of those are top notch and done right, just like this but the Ken Burns ones are just a little bit better. Great job to whoever worked on this series.
I read one of Mr. Pushkin's works in my elder sister's book, and I loved it! It was just so hopeful.
Pushkin's tales for children are read to children before bedtime. In order to write a fairy tale in poetry, great talent is needed. But Pushkin also wrote serious works - simply magnificent. He was read during his lifetime, and is read today.
Woah Alexander II evaded death life almost as much as a cat’s 9 lives 😅 Also, I hated how they found hard to forgive the imperial court’s sins instead looking at the reforms and his strive for modernisation. He did his best and in his conscience he knew he was doing his best to be a good leader. It’s just sad
Imagine if he ruled in 2021
Very good series. I love history of any kind. Very well put together.
i didnt think iwould spend a whole day. Looking at this but im so captured by the portration of the romanovs. The acting really captures a bit of their personalitys
What a masterpiece of history telling !
I can’t help but notice that the actor playing Tsar Alexander II is a dead ringer for Alexander’s son Grand Duke Vladimir
And then bolsheviks named a lot of streets among the country after these murderers. There's a street named after Perovskaya in my city... Actually it seems that nobody cares about it and not too many people in my city know who Perovskaya was. I wish the street would be renamed
+loyalmn The Bolsheviks murdered many. So did the Tsars. History is not romantic! Learn from it!
+loyalmn the streets were named at the time when these people were supposed to be respected bc there was such a policy, different authorities make their own rules, that's always been like that
+loyalmn the bolsheviks were MANY many many many times worse than even leaders like Ivan the terrible. Debate me. Lets see what facts you have.
Tsars killed mostly based on some kind of law....Bolsheviks law was "End justifies the means". See the difference?
Evil bstards! I would rip the sign out of that street if I was able!
This is brilliant!

On 13 July 1817, Nicholas married Charlotte of Prussia (1798-1860), who thereafter went by the name Alexandra Feodorovna. Charlotte's parents were Frederick William III of Prussia and Louise of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Nicholas and Charlotte were third cousins, as they were both great-great-grandchildren of Frederick William I of Prussia.
He did good to his peaple and look how they repaid him,
To good is no good.
it seems like in the later stages of the empire, all the czars wanted to abdicate. kinda weird
The decline started with the decemberist revolts

Excellently made.
They were so close to become a constitutional Monarcy, and yet failed >:(
The Rothschilds decided the Russian monarchy was to be ended that's why. Noticed many monarchs disappeared after WW1? By accident?
TheJoeman11 Many monarchs died after WWI because of Communists and Republicans like Mustafa Kemal in Turkey and Vladmir Lenin in Russia.
So close and betrayed by the satanic Bolsheviks...
crazy person alert.
This is a great documentary thanks
The ultimate irony is that the People's Will expected things to be better for the Russian people after Alexander II died, more rights and freedoms for the people, Russian autocracy either softened, reformed or abolished. But the complete opposite happened Alexander III strengthened the autocracy even more He threw liberal reforms and the possible constitutional monarchy idea in the oven Censorship and repression became stronger And with all that grew the ideas and desire for revolution even more So in the end the People's Will succeeded. The results just came decades later and some of them didn't live to see it. And if they were alive during the Revolution, they would have died after Stalin took over everything
The series is so good that zigzag run killed me though. It's not bad acting or anything but it reminds me running once I'm done with finals and they say "You're free to go".

Nicholas was portrayed by Emil Jannings in the 1928 American silent film The Patriot. In 1938 he was played by Harry Baur in the French film The Patriot.
He was too careless with his life knowing that he had many enemies. He should have taken far more precautions.
just amazing
Soviet Storm is also an excellent series. I hope they convert the Bonaparte series into English as well.
this one is my favorite part 1:10 :) very heartwarming...
It is strange that this documentary does not say a single word about Nicholas I involvement in the 1848 Hungarian revolution as it made a huge impact on European history
Series are focused on personalities. Many Russian wars and policies are skipped.
This series is so faithful to history and not white washing it, It tells the story of victories as well as the failures.
The romanov government's under the Tsar's weren't gathering grounds of enlightenment and inclusion. I'm sadly not surprised the Russian state inched its way towards Revolution! If I were a decent, hardworking good person living under the relentless brutality of the Tsars I suppose I'd find the revolutionary appeal very surductive.
I've been watching these videos. They're great and I'm now subscribed. The only thing I would say is as you gave us the Russian text I wish you would've translated to English because I studied the Russian Czars and history and I found myself confused at times when I really shouldn't have been.
It is a n excellent serie about the Romanov Dinasty !!!!!!!!!!!
Kiev University was founded in 1834 by Nicholas. In 1854, there were 3600 university students in Russia, 1000 fewer than in 1848. Censorship was omnipresent; Historian Hugh Seton-Watson says, "The intellectual atmosphere remained oppressive until the end of the reign.

I watch this way too much and my friends think I’m weird and I’m a black American so I have no ties whatsoever but I do want to visit St. Petersburg but I’m feared ppl will shun me out
Hi! Skin colour is not a problem at all. There's never been racism in our multinational country. I've seen a lot of black American tourists in Moscow and St. Petersburg, so don't worry! Just contact the travel agency :) People may glance at you with curiosity, because there are not many African Americans in Russia (less than 0.5%), but it would be more like: “Oh, you're black, that's cool! May I take photo with you?” - without any intention to offend. Most of Russians think black people are cool and easy-going, so you have all chances to become popular, especially among our girls. We're also used to think that no one in the world cares about our history and culture nowadays, or people in the West don't like us, to put it mildly, because of anti-russian propaganda. That's why we're always glad to welcome foreigners who are interested in our country and who not consider us as a bunch of ignorant vandals :D (sorry for my English if it's terrible)
That makes two of us .
😂😂😂 hey, I am Russian, living in Moscow. This summer me and my husband went to st.Petersburg as tourists. After the airport we took a bus to the city. Then we took a taxi to get to our hotel, and guess what? The taxi driver was black! Well that was surprising, in a good way :) Noone would even think of harming a tourist. And our police treats the tourists better than russians. So don’t be fooled by stereotypes come to Russia! :)

I love Russian history! It's so colorful and fascinating. I have to say, though, that it's gross hearing the narrarator offhandedly talking about royals "falling in love" with 14 year old girls. 😳
Just my humble opinion, the actor portraying Tsar Nicholas 1 is better looking than the actual Tsar...even though it is stated that women fainted in his presence because he, the Tsar, was so handsome.
the real tsar was actually pretty handsome when he was young. you should look at his portrait
@@jaddiemannie7418 Morning "J", I looked at paintings of the actual Tsar Nicholas as a young and older man prior to my post. The real Tsar, in my opinion, was attractive, especially his eyes, BUT the actor's eyes and face are more powerful and more beautiful to me. His big blue eyes are piercing and deep set which I've always thought attractive. His nose, hands and lips are beautiful , as well. Question, what do you think of the series as a whole??
