I've seen so many lion documentaries and short vids. It's rare to find a non-grumpy lion daddy! :D He looks like he'd play with them and indulge them.

What can you say, it's a hard job being a daddy. There is always a monster around the corner trying to kill your cubs. I have noticed that when there are several Lions in the pride the Lions are less grumpy as you put it. Must be the responsibility. And sorry about turning' grumpy' into a conversation :p

Not only is he a beautiful and strong specimen of a lion, he is a very involved lion dad...many of them either just growl at the kids or merely tolerate them. He looks genuinely happy to look after them.
That’s because he’s never had to live the high stress lifestyle of being run out of a pride as a young adult, living nomadic for a period of time, then having to protect a territory from other male lions and hyenas(usually uprooted from the pride he controls after an average of 2-3 years). Throw in a relative degree of hunger between kills, getting drinks of water while having to look out for hungry crocodiles and angry hippos, etc, etc. So yeah, he’s got many reasons to be much more tolerant.
@@m.williams4971most lion dads are still very intolerant in captivity also lionesses also face a lot of struggles in nature yet are still very loving and tolerant. It’s just the fact that male lions don’t naturally have that parental drive to be involved and tolerant.
@@vivismith1157 because the lionesses are biologically hardwired to be nurturers, while the male lions are hardwired to be the protectors of the pride, so their whole lives they are a war protecting their territory and everything in it

It's VERY rare to see an adult male Lion show so much affection and compassion towards his Cubs! They usually just tolerate their cubs, but this Lion actually enjoys his children. I can honestly say this Lion is a Great father! 🦁

it mostly depends on the individual lion. Some are too tired and annoyed to have time for children because they are exhausted from patrolling their territory(which takes days to weeks). Some are quite loving and will groom the cubs themselves
@@erictyson5947 Not exactly. Keeping cubs from being exterminated by nomadic males and throw in the occasional carcass protected from hyena takeover and males can be quite essential to cub survival.

They also act being hurt when cubs plays with them so it gives the cubs confidence in their strength. It teaches them young to be wild. Lions in the captivity can teach them nothing but being approval of approach and affection because that what get them food and stays alive. Every living that wants to survive adapts to what they need to do to stay alive. The lion in the captivity thinks being approachable gives them food and safety so they stay that way. The wild one can get nothing without aggression, so they need to teach their youngs to fight for what they want and to not be discouraged by disapproval.

It's common for male lions to kill their male cubs for that reason. They are protective and affectionate towards their female cubs because they are future hunters that can bring him food. The female lions teach the cubs how to hunt and fighting cubs learn on their own from playing with their siblings.
