It's not a helicopter. It's an ornithopter. An aircraft that flies via flapping wings, rather than rotors, jets, or rockets. With current technology, practical ornithopters are difficult to construct, but some futurists believe these might be the next innovation of VTOL aircraft design. Ornithopters are featured heavily in Frank Herbert's sci-fi book series, "Dune", which this April Fools event is based on.
They "could" work on low gravity planets.

It's specifically based on Dune 2000, too. The S-ONC tank and twin barrel tank are based on the Sonic Tank and Devastator tanks in that game.

The Big double barreled boy is inspired from the Devastator in Dune, though in dune it used heavy plasma cannon while the sonic is based off the sonic tank which is inspired from the Sonic Weapon technology used by the Fremen in Dune And the "helicopter" is an Ornithoper, closer to a plane than a helicopter This event really brings back Childhood memories of Dune 2000

The whole "sonic weapons" thing is an invention of David Lynch for his Dune movie; a lazy way to substitute the Prana Bindu body-control technique that could make people into living weapons. It was turned into sonic tanks in the 1992 RTS game Dune II, which this entire event is based on. @TheOzTurkish: Absolutely. In fact, it was the way the designers of Dune II sneakily got around the Dune setting's ban on the use of nuclear weapons. So instead they just have a "nuclear-powered tank" with a sneaky self-destruct function.

2:57 I shot a missile launcher thing with that tank.. 4 times, all direct hits, that’s 8 rounds and still didn’t kill it. With the sonic tank, you can sit behind the mountain on the c point, and fire into the point and noone can take it, and you can hit people at/going to B

You can really only kill other q ad's with Tue missiles, and sometimes a topter
the missile launcher is easy to destroy, just aim for the launchers and the ammunition kabooms. Really strong hull though, pretty sure it's the same as the CT-T
The sonc is op as fuck, but you just gotta learn to play the Q-ad. Spam the missiles, they're disposable and recharge. Use the gun while using the missiles.

Btw this April fools is heavily inspired Upon the new dune film. The dragonfly is the one from the film and when blades fall off is just like it. The worm is also very similar but lacks the thousands of teeth and lastly the weird particles are GE but in the film is a substance called spice and that big cargo vehicle is a spice or GE harvester.
Well the unlockable pfp's are a dead give away as theres 2 variants for the 3 pics you can get one normal and one with bright blue eyes and to get the blue eye'd ones you need cinnamon so ye.
I thought it was from the old Dune RTS games since the structures and vehicles look strikingly similar.

As an old ass gamer, this event is SOO nostalgic. It's referencing the dune series, but in particular old Westwood studios "Dune 2000". The B point almost looks like a full base with the comm-center, spice silos, the walls and wall-turrets, and the Wind traps! O M G (the RGB buildings you said? those xD) (And the ornithopters of course), not to mention vehicle aesthetics.
You need to go even further back. Dune 2000 is a remake of Dune II, from 1992, and everything in this event (especially the structures) is based on Dune II designs. The gold-domed palace, and the blocky harvester with the pointy nose, are especially iconic in that regard.

@@chipsahoyboy5407 I was able to singlehandedly hold the B point with the sonic tank for an entire game, literally hiding inside in a corner and blasting people who are not even close by just aiming using the mini-map since they keep getting spotted. Basically if a sonic is within 1KM range and is behind cover there is nothing you can do while they can easily kill you without ever exposing themselves.
Yeah, the Sonic is pretty OP. The double barrel fella on red is rather good if you can get on a hill. I’ve been able to fend off A a couple times with it because of the insane firepower

I really appreciate the fact that the vehicles and buildings not only take reference from the recent Dune film, but also from the old Westwood Dune RTS games (Dune 2 was literally the very first RTS).
a few fun things to note about this mode: what's interesting is that france actually has made many real vehicles just like the armoured car in the event, like google "panhard sphinx" they also made the CRAB Last year the type 96 MPM for japan was accepted for consideration. IT's the type 93 but with fire and forget + manual anti ship missiles. if you drive into the worm as it swallows someone else, you'll be shot out flying And that's all I got

10191 is the year where Dune takes place. The lore thing is also referencing the lore of this thing called the Spice in Dune
All the building designs on the cap are from the Dune2 game. There's a Barracks, Refinery, Windtraps, Silos and the Palace building. Also spotted Command center in the spawns. The turrets are also from that specific dune game being the more advanced models with the rocket launchers. All the vehicles also represent vehicles of the Atreides (Blue team) and Harkonnen (Red team). Atreides had the Sonic tanks as their special unit and Harkonnen had the Devastator twin barreled tank. Q-AD(Quad), CT-T(Combat tank) and R-LAU (Rocket launcher) were the common units shared by both of these teams. TOPTER (Ornithopter) on the other hand used to be not available for Harkonnen but for the sake of this events balance they added it to both. Yes, I'm a 90's dosgaming boomer :D I was pleasantly surprised by this event being so on the nose Dune 2 reference. Such a massive nostalgia trip.
The standard tank rounds also have proximity detonation..... so they make great AA weapons.
I think this is the best April fools for a long time. This "Dune" themed one is just awsome! I prefer this one by large instead of the last year's future theme. (or was it 2 years before?)

The bit about GE extending life and consciousness is actually a reference to melange in Dune, a drug (naturally occuring in sandworm poo) which has those properties.
I’m not sure, but I think that with the IR guidance and top attack, the Q-AD’s missiles are like Javelins without tandem charges

This was actually really cool
after playing 20h of this mode, here are some things to say about the gameplay (average kills is 10, sometimes getting 5 and i did get a 17 kill match, and i think owning top teir really helps with awarness as the map is mostly open so map knowledge is simple, watch the flanks.) the rocket head one sucks, you get hit by the ct heatfs or the quad guns or missles or the heli missles IN THE ROCKET launchers, and you explode. so if you see one, aim for the rockets, anywhere, its a one hit kill. the heli one sucks, its hard to not die to the quads, and even tho i own other helis and do semi good with them, i can never get past a critical hit only when i manage to find a tank not protected by quads, these helis are way faster tho and way easier to dodge missles, but not so for the main rounds,u have to hope teh quad misses the mbt one is not bad, it one hits the missles and the quads and is sopposedly faster than teh quads but takes longer to get to top speed. it has a hard time penning itself, so aim for gun/breach with itself then flank to side and pick it apart. the quad isnt bad either, you get scout, it reaches top speed fast, and it can kill the missle guys and the helis. its missles can also sometimes damage and even kill the mbts slowly but its a little difficult and hard to aim them... so you have to get luky or be really good with them. it usualy can only kill itself or helis red side get the double barrelled heavy, which can one hit (usualy, if you aim wrong or miss it wont) the mbts, quads, helis, and rocket tanks. it one hits everytthing, but you have to do good with the other tanks to get it. blue side gets the sonic, which insta kills anything it hits. but, the sonic bullet is slow, so make sure to lead moving targets, and you can shoot thru some stuff but i havent tested to give accurate info. also, remember that the sonic bullet has a maximum distance of 1km what i do: rush B point with cv one hit all the quads that are there one hit any rockets (only sometimes they come to B) retreat as the mbts come shortly after, im talking a minute after the wave or quads, and that is if you drive ur mbt fast and u choose the spawn with teh least resistance of hills. or by that time usualy you have enuf for one of the heavies flank the mbts and hopefull get a bunch of crits and maybe some kills, and eventualy die and take out heavy. if with sonic, i head to B or C, as theres cover and shorter engagments to make sure enemies are never over 1km away, and usualy 500m so leading isnt an issue if with the t something dual barrel, i go between the two point that we own, and i face backwards (so the engine takes the hit and not crew) and i sit pretty one hit sniping all tanks, and when one of the caps we own get decapped i go over and kill and recap. i dont use quad as the mbt is just as fast and better armored and better gunned i dont use the heli cuz the heavies are only slightly more expensive and way better i dont uyse the rockets, they die to fast tho i did get a triple kill once, you HAVE to make sure you fire first, or you die, so it could be useful in a good player hands, but because its not as survivaly as the mbt or heavy, i dont recomend i hope this helps anyone gridning that cinamon for the next month!

My favourite was the DOTA. I just never hit with the SONiC on long distances(and the gun breaks to fast) and I didn't knew how the TOPTER missle worked. Unlike most others, I liked the medium tank more than the light tank, because the rocket rarely hits and it's weak. But the DOTA was just great for sniping and even if you missed, you got the kill because the explosions were strong enough to one shot kill light to medium tanks anyway

It literally does. In the game that this is all an homage to, namely Dune II, the Devastator Tank was the developers' way to make the Harkonnen sneakily get around the ban on nuclear weapons in the Dune setting. So it's not a nuclear bomb, it's 'just' a nuclear-powered tank which happens to have (in Dune II) a self-destruct button ;)
