Have you wondered if those cheaper tools could be utilised within the electrical trade? Maybe you're an apprentice that can't spend much on tools.
These are from aldi and are called workzone.
Screwdriver set is $12.99
Pliers, long nose and side cutters are $9.99 each.

  • Like you said always buy what you can afford. Cheap set for apprentices is ok to start off with to get to using tools. But there’s apprenticeship loans and most places will have sales with apprentice deals and discounts

  • You can get anything at Aldi, love that place.

  • I call cheap tools ‘beaters’ they deffo serve a purpose as we all need tools to open tins with, pry things with that it doesn’t matter if they break or bend. Ok for household type stuff, I’d never pull them out at work on a job but they’re worth buying at that price for sure!

    • definitely agree. gotta have those beaters👍🍻

  • Love these screwdrivers. I like them more than my Milwaukee set. Only problem is the flat blades gets bent up and then you cant use them to fit off anymore

  • I’d go the needle nose for switchboard work because they’re cheap and won’t get used that often.. but the crescent ones are cheap and 1000v aswell

    • I’m going to carry the needle nose and see how they go. If I use it enough I’ll be looking to grab something more substantial

  • I use both the standard Marvel pliars and the Marvel cross cuts. Can get them Japanese made from AWM. Much difference between the wattmaster and the marvel?

  • Hi great content!! Which are your favorite crosscut pliers? And do you recommend an apprentice starts off with traditional linesman pliers or is it ok to start off with crosscuts?

    @blairwilson9272@blairwilson9272 Жыл бұрын
    • Hey Blair. That’s a good question. Cross cuts take more time and practice to get used to. If your tradesman is patient you can go the cross cuts but you’ll be knicking the cables a lot. I still do it with them after a bit of practice(I haven’t used them full time). The safest bet is normal pinch cuts. But it’s all preference.

    • @@AddictedtoTools Thanks heaps for your answer, very helpful! I decided to go traditional - ordered Knipex 200mm VDE, got them on special for a pineapple so pretty stoked :)

  • Hey bro, do you think you can do a IR test on it to see if its actually rated to what they say

    • Will be doing this soon hopefully. Have to get a hold of the tester. 👍

  • what's your beef with the test pen? I've had a cheap Aldi socket set in the van for 7 years and only just bought a better set recently. Saved me so many times during and after my apprenticeship

    • I use a multi meter. I’m not trusting a test pen from aldi with my life

  • Someone should test the Mark of the beast 'CE' Chinese Export Insulated 1000V rating VS a reputable brand Insulated 1000V ratings. Like see if they are actually life saving or not

  • Dunno why people get so anal about someone using cheaper priced tools at work, yes fancy wiha screwdrivers feel better and are built better, but for everyday use of a screwdriver, I always go for the cheap insulated sets from Bunnings etc as they’re always going missing anyway.
