  • This film remains one of my most favorite movies of all time, purely because of how committed it was towards it's worldbuilding and in-universe lore. It clocks in at less than two hours, but manages to craft a whole world out of a single throwaway idea. It's so satisfying. Really has a lot of potential if it were to ever be rebooted or revisited.

  • This movie demonstrates the other part of what I call The Vampire's dilemma: by whittling down the human population to the point that they no longer pose a threat to vampires, the vampires have diminished their prey supply to the point where it can no longer replenish itself.

    @RichardX1@RichardX12 жыл бұрын
    • That depends on whos writing the plot, usually vampires don't turn people just by a bite, they also need to add their own blood into the human. So feeding is usually sucking blood without leaving a trace of what happened and only on extremely rare cases the vampire then willingly converts some.

      @HelmuthGerka@HelmuthGerka2 жыл бұрын
    • @@HelmuthGerka the problem isn't about converting your food supply into competition. The problem is that a vampire's main prey species is notably more proactive in defense against predators than just about every other form of life on this planet. Look at it this way. Lions also need to be significantly outnumbered by their prey in order to avoid hunting them to extinction and subsequently starving. However, when lions aren't present, gazelles and zebras do little defensively beyond keeping a watch for predators. They don't seek out nearby prides to wipe them out pre-emptively. Humans have done that, multiple times. Add to that the fact that every 24-hour cycle has a period that is mostly harmless to Humans but potentially lethal to vampires, and you have the reason that modern vampire stories have vampire society intent on concealing their very existence from the herds.

    • I respect Frankie's decision to turn Ed despite his apprehensions. He wanted to save his brother, even if his brother would hate him for it. But the "Just following orders" part does sort of make me dislike him. He already turned his brother and now his brother hates him. But then, he goes behind his back and reports him to his higher ups and endangers him. It's only when he watched a girl he turned die did he regret the things he's done and I don't understand why. Is she a representation of what he is doing to his brother? Is it because he realizes his superiors can't or won't help his brother? Does he feel guilty after seeing the consequences of his actions? He was so loyal to the people he served that he would betray his brother. But then a girl dies and NOW he wants to save his brother? After everything he did that hurt him?
