This is a weighted hammer that I started as a carving project a long time ago as a bit of fun. I decided to turn it into a leather-faced weighted mallet to use with my hold-fasts, and other assemblies.
I messed around with some carving on the handle - I'm quite pleased with how this turned out. In hindsight I should've used something more chunky like oak, but woulda coulda shoulda - and this would never be here if not for the two scraps of pine I had lying around!

    • Exactly, it's a hammer used while working with lead and other soft metals. So it doesn't deface the surface from banging it harder than my step sister on prom night.

  • That is a hide hammer. It might be weighted with lead, but unless the striking surface is lead it's not a lead hammer. Irrespective it's nice workmanship.

    • It's meant 'for' lead not made 'of' lead. You want soft hide in the head so you won't mess up softer metals, like lead.

    • Obviously we are not all oblivious of that. Many of us were probably expecting to see the faces of the hammer head being made of lead. When I saw the title, I also though briefly of a dead blow hammer.
