Come to J&K’s ‘Mughal Road’ to understand Modi govt crackdown on Poonch ‘custodial torture, deaths’
#CutTheClutter #PoonchKillings #PoonchTerrorAttack
Last week brought devastating news from Jammu & Kashmir on account of two brutal incidents: A terrorist ambush on an Army convoy in Poonch that killed four soldiers, and the alleged custodial death of three local residents rounded up by the Army as part of its ensuing investigation. Purported videos of the latter incident, which appear to show the victims being tortured, have gone viral. The Modi government was quick to take action on the matter, with the Brigadier heading the 13 Sector Rashtriya Rifles, who was in charge of Poonch, moved out pending a high-level investigation. In Ep 1376 of Cut The Clutter, Editor-in-Chief explains how the government’s alacrity plays into its larger political-military strategy for J&K.

When you say Gujjar Bakarwal is a loyal Indian community.. does that mean they don't act as guides for terrorists crossing border? Whatever happened was wrong and unacceptable and shouldn't have happened but the Army doesn't beat up random people.. these are thick jungle you cannot possibly cross over and set up an ambush without local help and it's important to find out who are these people who are selling their imaan for few extra bucks
Brilliant analysis Shekhar sir. The way you were able to connect the dots was like a story unfolding, great build up. Thanks
Absolutely right!!The common man feels so ashamed to see the hooliganism of our politicians in parliament.
Brigadier sent to attachment not for torturing and killing civilians under custody but for making and leaking the videos

Sir, you have hit another ball out of the park with this episode !! This is amazing..and linking anantnag to poonch and rajaouri and the entire politics around it, right at the end, was nothing short of a blockbuster climax !! Hats off to you and your team sir❤❤❤
Indeed, absolutely amazing explanation
Absolutely brilliant piece after a long time. I was already disappointed the way we were losing so many brave souls day after day to these ambushes. When I heard of the civilian killings it added insult to injury. I stopped following the news at all (not that the mainstream media has tried to cover even a bit of it). It seemed as if the armed forces did finally buckle under the pressure. However, if the central government has stepped in to put things in order it shows the actual honest intent this government and the PM has to make things better.
Army must have had a very good reason for interrogating those particular people so harshly. Most probably, the armymen sensed their involvement or at least their closeness to those who were involved. They definitely doesn't wanted to kill them, but it happens sometimes during severe interrogations. Especially, when the security of the nation and brave soldiers is at stake.
Sir most of the legends regarding Alexander are wild exaggerations 😂
Think of the forces who will try to create chaos in Kashmir until 2024 elections. They can’t win elections and so will try violence in the country

That sounds like Madarsa gyan!
Advanced interrogation techniques have been used for decades. Someone in close confidence told me nearly 20 years ago about the usage of chili powder by Indian military against terrorists during interrogation. However, it has been found that these methods end up creating more terrorists than they bust. You know where else chili powder is used? In terrorist training camps. Both as a metaphor to rile people against the Indian state but also to train them to sustain such interrogation techniques. I think it's time Indian military should move on from these ancient methods and use methods that don't harm the individual physically. Lately, the security establishment in India seems to have been committing blunders in the name of dare. The recent outing of the "use of whatsapp for clandestine operations" was another example.
Here comes the interrogation expert who probably identity as a basketball.
Man shut the hell up. The only thing wrong about it was the fact that someone recorded the video and made it public.
@@3xpl0i79 One does.not need to be an interrogation expert to understand that applying chilli powder on the wounds of your own country men or any living being is a wrong and disgusting method of interrogation. Not everyone is a cruel inhuman ba s trd like you! Aur tu Kya interrogation expert Hain Kya mc
They need to learn from the west and stop using these ancient techniques. It is classic USA mistake in it's 2000-2010 after 9/11. Although USA did improve and they started hiring Military Psychologists to aid in interrogations which ultimately proved successful. India sadly doesn't have the infrastructure or employment opportunities for military psychologists, heck we don't even have psychologists in the army, we have psychiatrists. What a joke.

Learnt a lot as usual. Thanks Mr Gupta. It’s baffling for me to see how we are losing so many soldiers and officers regularly. Can you please cover this aspect especially with the Army’s strategy of officers leading from the front ?
It's because of Mobility. Convoy moves so slowly to the point they can easily be attacked.
Why can't they use cheap reconnaissance technologies like small cameras, drones, and small robot cars? Also, they need to build better fortified infrastructure on this road.

Its dangerous to alienate the Gujjar-Bakarwals, who have supported the army and even supported and participated in army's operations and especially operation Sarp Vinash to flush out the terrorists from the Rajouri-Poonch area. The area had been quite for a decade and a half or so, but its seeing some problems now. Indeed something is amiss in the sector. While the government works on stabilising Kashmir, Jammu and the middle J&K areas must not be left behind. Possibly this will focus government's efforts on the area.

Had the place been Kashmir Valley, I would have cynically thought “Every terrorist can claim to be a civilian, because he is formally not a part of armed forces “.
I am surprised as to why no arrest has been made. Simply ordering enquiry and lodging an FIR does not serve any purpose. Government is still protecting the culprits. What a state of anarchy. If protectors become predators then where can the common people go. Is there any doubt that anyone else other than the army personnel tortured and killed these civilians.
True this is just an eye wash to appease the Gurjar vote bank. On the other hand they are protecting the officers to protect their thakur vote bank.
Who will join Indian Army is the question.

Beheading and mutilation of the body of a soldier who died fighting, by the terrorists is the lowest form of humanity and combat ethics (if, mometarily one believes in the jihadi ideology as combat !) . The Army suffered it ! The villagers who sheltered the terrorists to achieve this, when put thru the same rigmarole (however condemnable), results in the slap of the face of Army. Why ? Electoral gains and Political goals ! Is there no other means to setle the issue ? Have grassroot grievances been addressed by the Govt ? Will only an electoral majority grant the ppl with what they desire and deserve, as a condition ? Forget last 70 years, surely last 9 years was gud enuf time to atleast initiate some relief measures for these residents of Rajouri - Poonch - Reasi belt to strat belueving in the govt efforts and alienate the terrorist fraternity. Did the Def Min go to meet the families of the slain soldier also or he has done the job by meeting the civilian NOK only ? Is is equality by the Govt and by the Def Min for his troops ? Scapegoat .... Army and its ranks ! Pat on the Back .... to the Govt ! Shekhar ji .... great analysis and presentation. But you ignored the viewpoints and shackled status of the security forces .... for the balanced views, as expected from you and your stature ! Maybe, next time !
All lives of indians be it civilians or security forces, they need to be protected
