Trapping nuisance animals is never easy and it takes lots of work. It is a literal game of cat and mouse. There is tons of respect that goes into this and treating the animal properly is very important!

I'm a paralegal and recall a case years ago of a Chinese restaurant here in Huntsville where a lady broke her tooth on something hard in her food; turns out it was a feline tooth. The restaurant was sued for damages, among other things; before trial the owner of the restaurant was caught one county over with a truckload full of chicken coups full of cats!! TRUE STORY!

  • Bobcats actually respond quite well to cage traps. They are not particularly afraid to go into a cage for the most part. One trapper in southern California caught 130 bobcats in one winter. Of course foothold traps work fine, but cage traps still do a pretty good job. Bobcats can be caught in cage traps much smaller than the one shown. Commonly used traps have openings from 9x18 to 12x24 with a length of 37 or 38 inches long. Some are single door, others double door. We like traps with folding internal bifold doors that can be set in tight places and in all weather conditions north and south. The newest cage traps have wire triggers and powered door.

    • I agree, as much as I was sad, I realize it needed to happen. That Bobcat was a problem, though I absolutely believe more care should be taken with those chickens. Perhaps a livestock guardian dog? I don’t know. I’ll go ahead and state that my thought was that he better use that pelt and at least some of the meat, which he did, so I can’t be too terribly upset. He owed at least that much to the animal, which he understood and followed through on. That all being said, I wish he had gotten more footage of the animal while it was alive, and maybe taught us some really cool and amazing things about Bobcats. I mean, if you’re going to have an animal trapped like that, you’ve got time up close to the animal that you can film for something like that. Also would have been cool if we got to see a couple cute moments with it, like it playing with a feather wand or toilet paper, or maybe even a catnip experiment. It’s a wild cat, but it’s still a cat. There was a lot of missed opportunity for cool footage of the live trapped animal. Above all, it made me all the more grateful for my own domesticated kitty, whom we named Lynx, because his belly has the patterning of the spots of a lynx or bobcat.

    • Something should eat it. For coyote or cats...I'm hesitant due to vague concerns of safety, but don't care that they're "cute". I feel the same way with carp. I think...if I was starving or dying I'd consider eating a carp. However, I know that if you've had fish at a Chinese restaurant you've probably had dirty ditch carp. Hopefully, from the US and not China. I'd give props for feeding the bobcat to pond fish, or the poetic justice of chopping it up and giving it to the chickens!

    @parker1ray@parker1ray Жыл бұрын
    • I've never had a raccoon gnaw off a leg with a size 1 1/2. Usually, if they chew, if means you used too large of a trap and they were able to fit their mouth under the jaws of the trap. These days, people use dogproofs to specifically target them and that makes it impossible for them to chew
