This is the most militant Islamic state on Earth but it was once was peace loving and Buddhist. In the Bamiyan Valley north of Kabul the two largest statues of Buddha on the planet were carved in the third century. David Adams was the last Westerner to exhaustively film them before they were blown up in 2001.
Afghanistan is not so much a country as a series of shifting borders. A place with no easily definable physical or civil boundaries. A place where war is an everyday fact of life. A place where more children will learn to use a gun than will go to school. About 1.5 million have been killed during the past 20 years of war. Perhaps another 4 million have fled. Every major road has been torn apart by tank treads. Almost every major building left standing has been blown full of holes.

    • Most of that destruction occurred in the last few hundreds of years, probably around the same time that extremist Christians during the Renaissance and through the British civil war were denouncing all art as evil and sinful based on the EXACT same scripture. In fact, Puritans were so extreme in their iconoclasm that they destroyed masterpieces by the greatest painters in Europe (well, the ones they didn't sell to the Italians....for the money). Early Christians too tended to destroy pagan art they came across once they were the official religion of the Roman Empire (why do you think the pagan Greek and Roman sculptures were buried when Michaelangelo found them?). This is a very old problem: the victors wipe out the history and values they want to pretend never existed. Of course, Islam and Persia have a really vibrant history of arts, science and mathematics (although that didn't make them any less violent than the expansionist European Christian empires either - they were all pretty similar on that score). The irony is that it was only after the resurgence of Islam after the overthrow of the Russians, that Islamic regimes became so radical.

Then the pyramids are also illogical , The statue of Liberty is also illogical , All the statues all over the world are illogical ( Acc to you) . Nobody gave you the fcking right to trample on someone's religion and say it's illogical. Every statue , every scripture, every monument has a deeper meaning to it. So don't go and say if Buddhism idealogies are illogical. And a fun fact the budhhists scriptures you see were not carved by the Lamas. It was carved by the people who admired Buddha. Back in his time budhhism was not so widespread as other religions so they had little support but atleast loyal and trustworthy And see Buddhism's history is so far and widespread that so many idealogies of the High Buddhists Lamas clash against eachother. Pls don't point out towarss buddhism. Nor we Buddhists have pointed that Islam is bad or Christianity is bad or any religion. So you better not too. And Dalai Lama has his subjects in poverty ok. Lmao . Nothing is perfect bro. No matter whatever religion may it be people are gonna suffer. Muslims are suffering to , Christians are suffering too , Jain's are suffering, many more ,don't look at things with a narrow mindset. All we can do is help eachother during the sufferings. • @Solitary confirmed Shitzophrenic I don't know explicitly what he is talking about. There have been many wars in that area where people from all faiths died, so that is a bias statement by him, to ignore the deaths of others. With my little knowledge i understand the word Hindu predates the word Hinduism by 1000s of years. The word Hindu historically denotes people who live in Hind, a geographical area of central and southern asia. Hindu Kush is a valley along the Himalayas. So it seems that the word Hindu is actually not a religious identity but a geographical identity that has been hijacked by a religion. So thats is how i try to understand how an area called the hindu kush lies in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and China. You can look at old maps to verify. Thanks Keep well

      @Useruser-pe4my@Useruser-pe4my3 жыл бұрын
    • Some texts refer to Hindu(geographical context) from Indus river, some from hindukush mountains itself. But as you rightly point Hinduism is basically derived from Hindu. Most hindu temples under rulers like Kanishka were probably demolished in war and communal intolerance of centuries. The Era where art flourished and has a history to tell, is lost among the man made borders and our failure to appreciate & cherish ancient heritage. It is sad but we are blessed to see what remains.

It's such a shame, how stupid and sad they are!". Dhammarama explained why he had not come to see the Buddha and also reported that he had been striving his utmost in Insight Meditation Practice. The Buddha was satisfied and was very pleased with the explanation and conduct of Dhammarama and he said, "My son, Dhammarama, you have done very well. A Bhikkhu who loves and respects me should act like you. Those who made offerings of flowers, scents and incense to me are not really paying me homage. Only those who practice the Dhamma are the ones who truly pay homage to me." At the same time that the statues added an awesome representation of human's ability to create to world culture and heritage, what good are statues doing for Buddhism when the Buddha himself saw no value in them?
