Restoring original SNES that had YOGURT inside - Retroration project
This time I restored the original SNES. This is the PAL version and it is quite badly yellowed and dirty both inside and outside. Inside also had some stains of something which I seemed to be yogurt or other dairy product. It had been poured in from the game slot and it caused some trouble with reading the games. Luckily most of the yogurt had missed the pins. These retro consoles are lot of fun to restore. Thanks for watching. More info can be found after the links.

The console was powering on but the games wouldn't work properly. sometimes there was no picture and only bad audio and sometimes the audio itself was fine but there was no picture. Only a couple of times I got it somewhat working but the picture and colors were still a little off.
I thought it had to be due to some sort of dirt or corrosion on the pins of the game slot. After opening it up I found loads of dust and dirt inside and the funniest part, some yogurt that had fallen down the game slot.
I used some isopropanol (isopropylic alcohol) to remove all the dirt and corrosion I found. Isopropanol is what is typically used for this because it doesn't contain almost any water and therefore it will not cause corrosion.
The main halves of the shell were also were yellowed. Something that is were common for the SNES due to teh type of plastic was used and the console heating up. I uesd hydrogen peroxide to de-yellow the parts. I thickened the hydrogen peroxide with gelatine so it wouldn't run off the shell immediately after it is applied. After that I wrapped the parts in cling wrap to prevent teh solution from evaporating. I also made a "solarium" from box, UV-led strip and aluminum. The aluminum is there to spread the light more evenly and to make it bounce around until it hits the shell. Nobody really known for sure what the chemical reaction behind this method called retrobrighting (or retr0brigting) is but tehre are some guesses about it online. UV-light and temperature seems to act as catalyst and speed up the process. The parts were almost done after less than a day but I had them in there for like 30 hours to be safe. After that I washed the parts and put the thing back together and works like a charm.
Thanks for reading all the way through.
Should I restore the north american model too?

My dad and I found a nes at a thrift store, couldn't see why it wasn't running till we took it apart, somebody was drinking soda and coated the insides with soda. some parts where needed to replace, mainly connector but after days of cleaning the syrup out, cleaning the parts and casing, put it back together with some new parts, works just fine
The same thing seemed to happen with my PS1, but it didn't look to affect the components inside of it. Can't test it bc I don't have the power cable which kind of sucks (don't have any games on hand either, so I can't test the disc drive)

why? the no talking makes it generic and honestly kinda boring nothing seperates this channel from any other channel of the same type
Tibblaye Enoshima of the same type. Generic implies lacking type, or it implies the inclusion of all types together. In that sense it is very much not generic. Who gives a shit if it’s similar to videos of the same type? All gaming channels are basically the same but people prefer certain ones over others. However nobody claims any of the gaming channels to be “generic content.” That would be a fucking joke. Why in the fucking fuck is this different again? Contradictory comment.

The SNES is unbreakable. I found one in a thrift store about 15 years ago that was literally sticky and covered in gunk. I paid 15 bucks, took it home and didn´t expect it to work but it did. Gave it a surface clean then and played with it ever since. Thanks to channels like yours I also gave it an interior clean last week. It looked like a cat had died inside. Now it´s like new. I´m pretty confident it will still work in 30 years.

So, I watched this video about a month or so back, and I came back just to say, you actually helped me out! I had either 2 or 3 SNES controllers, that over the years, they became unresponsive, unreliable, or even just totally dead (I think I may have threw one away..... of course I regret that now, but back when it was not doing anything for me, I was pretty sad about it), and I found the box where I had been storing them away. I just started doing my Christmas shopping for family now in November, and my cousin asked for Final Fantasy VI, yes the Super Famicom game, complete. He's NOT ONLY getting that game, I'm setting him up with his SNES going to be playable once again (I gave him my SNES Jr. a long time ago, and he had misplaced the power adapter, the AV cables, and any working controllers), and I went ahead and found and bought FF VI, Mother 2, Chrono Trigger, and a U.S. Mario Paint (since I couldn't find any complete/boxed SFC Mario Paints). Anyway, just tonight, I took apart the faulty controllers AND two SNES mice I had, the exterior shells I scrubbed the hell off of them, other than permanent scratches and discoloring, they're cleaner than they've been in years! I then used a toothbrush, and isopropyl alcohol, and really scrubbed the boards good (not with the mice, I simply used q-tips and alcohol to clean the roller contacts with the ball, and I cleaned the ball with alcohol and a cloth). Once everything dried and I reassembled everything - I feel like I resurrected something back from the dead! The mice worked fine before the cleaning, I simply cleaned them anyway because usually the roller contacts would not be working as good with the ball with normal use. Every button on the controller though, is VERY accurate and works perfect! Anyway, had I not seen your restoration videos, I probably would have thrown the other controllers away eventually and just found others to buy as replacements. Anyway, thanks! P.S., also, I've already modded both my OG SNES console, and the SNES Jr., so that they can both work with Super Famicom cartridges. I did mine years back when I got FF IV and V back in the mid-2000's.
this is a masterpiece. both equipment and electronics.
