    • Yeah, I always hated that part in the Goblet of Fire movie where it looked like Dumbledore was about to strangle Harry by the way he grabbed him. I know it couldn't be helped because of Richard Harris passing away before Prisoner of Azkaban, but I never really liked Michael Gambon's version of Dumbledore. Richard Harris portrayed him a lot better.

    • @@ChibaMitsurugi19792It’s not that big of a deal imo. If anything I think the books portrayed Dumbledore kinda stupidly at times. The way he just shrugs off Harry being forced to compete in the Triwizard tournament, doesn’t bother trying to help or protect him in any way, allows the Chamber of Secrets to be opened with no further investigation, and in Sorcerer’s Stone, told Snape to “keep an eye on Quirrell” yet was unable to stop Quirrell from getting to Harry. The later books show Dumbledore is this mega-powerful awesome overlord wizard who knows all, but that makes you wonder why 11-14 year old Harry, Ron, and Hermione ended up in so many dangerous situations. Is Book Dumbledore just careless? Doesn’t care what happens to the trio?

      @SJ-di5zu@SJ-di5zu13 күн бұрын
    • @SJ-di5zu in book one, no one was ever really in danger except for the troll in the girls' bathroom because Dumbledore knew Quirrell couldn't get the stone from the mirror or even touch Harry. In book two I agree the investigations are ridiculous, he should have known it was a basilisk a lot sooner and sent the kids home. In book three he did everything necessary to stop sirius, they went out of their way to get into trouble

The leader of the Headless Hunt would explain to the trio why they couldn't allow Sir Nicholas into the hunt in the 2nd Novel during the death day party, however that party and also this explanation were cut from the movies (and the introduction of Moaning Myrtle who was introduced during this party was therefore moved in the movies to a scene in which Hermione was working on the Polyjuice Potion).

  • Percy also wrote a very long letter to Ron in the 5th book advising him to disown Harry. His justification was that Harry was loosing his mind and for Ron’s best interest he should leave him. Ron got redder and redder from anger as he read this letter and ended up ripping it to pieces and throwing it in the fire place. Hermione was watching this happen with an “odd expression on her face,” as the book mentioned. This act of loyalty towards Harry softened Hermione’s heart and she offered to help Ron with his essay. These aren’t huge plot relavent points but my favourite thing about reading HP is the trios dynamic and I wanted to share this little moment :)

But in the books, Dumbledore points out that it's not fate or destiny, Harry isn't special because he is "the Chosen One". Harry is just a brave, just and noble person that would never let someone put his friends in danger. He is the kind of man to stand against Voldemort regardless and he is only in his position with Voldemort because Voldemort does believe in magic prophecy and fate.

  • The SPEW part was okay to cut. When adapting into a film I don't find this important. They could have added a line or two on the subject without showing but they said screw it. Good points Morgan. I would have added the fact that the 4th movie cut out Ludo Bagman. For those that do know Ludo plays significant role in book 4. Speaking of St. Mongos, the 5th movie cut the scene of the trio talking to Augusta, and learning for the 1st time what happened to Neville's parents (well except for Harry if to be fair). Damn there are so much of these, I'd say part 2 might be necessary.

  • Something I really love about book Ron that wasn't quite portrayed in the movies is his loyalty. In the second book, when he and Harry decide to follow the spiders into the forbidden forest, Ron doesn't want anything to do with it, until he sees Hermione's empty seat in the Herbology class (at that time she was already petrified). In the book, Ron never went to the forest (Neville went instead of him) so he only knew the rumors about that place, and even more: spiders are his biggest fear, his boggart is literally a spider, and even then, he decided to enter the forest following the spiders, all for a chance to save his friend.

  • Pettigrew killing himself: I've heard that was done of censoring reasons. Harry Potter being seen as a children's story, having Peter strangling himself was deemed too shocking. I could not verify this, though. Marauder's Map: The movie not telling the true names of Mooney, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs (nice note, the are named in reverse order as in which they died, but that's beside the point) got even more irritating as Voldemort would only address Peter Pettigrew as "Wormtail" henceforth. Now the book version did the same (although it's not revealed how Voldemort knew Peter's nickname as far as I remember), it did make it more important for the true identities to be revealed, I think. Harry would later (in order not to let Umbridge know) refer to Sirius as "Padfoot" when trying to hint Snape about what was happening at the department of mysteries. Snape claims to have no idea (but that was in order to fool Umbridge), and Snape knowing the nicknames would only be obvious given his history with these four, yet the viewer not knowing. Could all work confusing, you know. SPEW: The Dutch version "Stichting Huiself Inburgering en Tolerantie", well, abbreviate that, and you actually get an English word. (The fully written out version means "Foundation House-Elf Integration and Tolerance", by the way). Not important, but a nice fun fact. Prefects: And not only were Ron & Hermione prefects for Gryffindor, but the movie also didn't mention Draco Malfoy being a prefect for Slytherin. Taboo: What is very annoying about the taboo itself not being revealed is an action by Xenophillius Lovegood, that he did NOT perform in the novels. He said the name "Voldemort" out of the blue to make sure the snatchers would come, so he could turn in Harry hoping to get his daughter Luna back. If you didn't know about the taboo because you never read the books, this action doesn't make sense at all. A few things not mentioned in this video, but which movie-only fans won't know, which is not unimportant. - Merope Gaunt was never mentioned at all in the movies, which is odd since she is Voldemort's mother. In some sort of way she raped Tom Riddle Sr. as the entire way Voldemort came to be is by drugging Tom Riddle Sr. as he actually didn't like Merope at all (drugging people in order to drive them to sex with somebody they'd normally never have sex with, is a kind of rape. The drug being a magic potion or an actually drug is irrelevant). Rowling already stated that Voldemort being unable to understand the entire concept of "love" was because Tom Riddle Sr. only made love to Merope under the effect of love potion. - Not only would it only be hinted in the "Fantastic Beasts" series, in the Harry Potter movies it was not clear at all that Dumbledore was actually homosexual and in love with Grindelwald. And if that wasn't wrong enough, although the gossip auntie already hinted to this in HP7, if it wasn't for the death of Ariana, Dumbledore might actually have ended up as one of the most dangerous wizards of all time (maybe even far more dangerous than Voldemort ever was). - I also don't remember that the movies ever revealed that James Potter actually saved the life of Severus Snape (and also not how that happened). This is important as for a long time it was implied that Snape only protected Harry in order to pay off his life debt to James, while the true reason was his love for Lily. (Dumbledore even shares this false information with Harry, also showing that Dumbledore is actually not the saint he appears to be). - Percy wrote Ron a letter in which he congratulated Ron on becoming a prefect, but also advising him to break off his friendship with Harry Potter and to seek guidance from Dolores Umbridge. There are also these: - Fred & George ordered Peeves to give Umbridge hell on their behalf, and this was the first (and so far only) order Peeves ever took from students. McGonagall even helped him a few times on this. - The orphanage owner drank loads of gin. - Ludo Bagman and Winky. Who are they? - House Elves get drunk by drinking butterbeer. Humans hardly seem affected, as the alcohol percentage appears to be too low. - Draco Malfoy found support in the most unlikely personal imaginable when he has to kill Dumbledore, but is afraid to do it. Moaning Myrtle. Not only that, when Malfoy was almost killed by Harry's Sectumsempra curse, Snape was alarmed because Myrtle began to shout things like "MURDER!" I don't remember if it's truly mentioned, but I thought it was heavily implied that Myrtle also didn't like Harry anymore after that incident. - Petunia KNEW what "Azkaban" and "Dementors" were, which surprised the hell out of both Harry and Uncle Vernon. This was a very important hint to why Petunia hated the Wizarding World (as she was just jealous for not being able to perform magic herself). - Dumbledore sent Petunia a howler. Harry couldn't recognize the voice as it was distorted and the message "REMEMBER MY LAST, PETUNIA!" didn't make much sense to him. It was only at the end of that book, that Harry found out that Dumbledore sent that howler. - The Bloody Baron is the Grey Lady's murderer. But I guess that was lesser important, but still nice to know. - The Gaunt family took pride in being direct descendants of Salazar Slytherin. They even only spoke Parslespeak in his honor. This also explains a part of the question how Voldemort could open the Chamber of Secrets, as according to myth only Slytherin's heir could do so. Well Voldemort *was* a descendant of Slytherin after all. - The name "Frank Bryce". We see him in the movies, but his name is NEVER mentioned. - Firenze getting himself banished from the Centaur herd - Arithmancy was Hermione's favorite subject - Harry was asked during his DADA exam to cast a patronus for extra bonus points. A happy thought is what makes a patronus powerful and by wishing Umbridge would get fired, he was able to conjure the best patronus he ever did. - Dumbledore only mentioned "priori incantatum" by name and asked if Harry saw his parents, after his fight with Voldemort. How this phenomenon came to be was never fully discussed (although Voldemort makes a kind of mention to this in HP7). As soon as Olivander sold the brother of Voldemort's wand to Harry he immediately sent an owl to Dumbledore to tell him Harry bought this wand. - Nymphadora's aunts happens to be Narcissa and Bellatrix. Movie never reveals this. That Nympadora's mother even looks identical to Bellatrix (even causing Harry to engage her in aggression by mistake only to be corrected by Ted). - Buckbeak was renamed "Witherwings" after Sirius stole it, this of course for its own protection. - Ginny and Molly didn't like Fleur, until the moment she revealed her true colors by not breaking up from Bill after being attacked by Greyback. Ginny even called her "Phlegm" all the time. - Although we see Nigel yell "LIGHTNING HAS STRUCK" once Harry returned to Hogwarts for the final confrontation with Voldemort, the station being hosted by River (Lee Jordan), Romulus (Remus Lupin), Royal (Kingley Shacklebolt) is never revealed. - Harry being asked by Lupin to be the godfather of his son. (Not fully sure, but I don't remember this being in the movie). - The Fidelius Charm, is as far as I remember NEVER mentioned at all in the movies. That's how Lily & James hid from Voldemort and Pettigrew was the secret keeper, and that's why Pettigrew is the reason Voldemort could find them, so it's not entirely unimportant. Sirius' house being under this charm so the Order of the Phoenix could be used as HQ was another, and that Dumbledore ghost appearing in HP7 as way to repel Snape (who was thought to be on Voldemort's side) was also a measure because Dumbledore was the secret keeper and due to his death all people who knew the secret would become the new secret keeper, including Snape. - Sirius' mother shouting all the time (even on paining). But to be honest, I wasn't sad they ommited that one in the movies Well, I guess I got enough now.

  • To add to #6 in the movie Kaite Bell is also there in the same scene as Chi when she should have also been a pass out/graduate by then. 7:05 And it was Winkey who was caught with Harry's wand. 10:41 It is sad that the movie missed out the best tins line from the books. When Ron gets his prefect badge Mrs Weasley says something on the lines of everyone being a prefect from the family to which George reply, 'who are we, the next door Neighbours?' 12:45 It was even filmed for the movies. My another favourite scene in the books is in the HBP chapter 1, Half Blood Prince, which starts weeks after the end of OoTP. Be it the chapter title 'The other minister' or the description of the painting that announced Fudge's arrival were fun to read about. It was nice to know that Fudge accepted the fact that Serius was innocent (which he does to the British Prime Minister). It was the best start to the best book in my opinion. So, when we got the movie intro with the death eaters somehow flying and becoming invisible and destroying a bridge which wasn't even constructed until the 2000s, I was shocked. It is sad that we got minutes of unscripted moments which were not even in the book in place of memories of young Tom Riddle collecting artefacts that will later be converted into Horcruxes.

But, yeah it's very unlikely that you could figure it out from there because James and Remus are never referred to by their monikers and the Marauders were never a huge plot point in the movies.

  • Another big one is how Harry came back after being hit by the Killing Curse in the forest. The film does make it clear that his actions resulted in destroying the Horcrux, but what is left out in the film is that Harry was able to return specifically because Voldemort took some of his blood in the process of getting his body back and in doing so, he kept Lily’s Sacrifical Protection alive, so in turn when Harry allowed himseld to be hit by the Curse, Voldemort instead only succeeded in destroying the Horcrux. The Elder Wand only mattered when it came to the final battle, contrare to what people who have only seen the films believe. This key detail should have been kept in the films, it even makes this line from Voldemort in the Goblet of Fire film have so much more meaning… “Astonishing what a few drops of your blood can do, Harry!” It really was astonishing. Too bad the films don’t actually mention that at all beyond Goblet of Fire.

As is was hidden at the bottom of the trunk, sadly Harry only found it after Sirius death. It just makes this death so much more tragic knowing that it (and the whole battle in the department of mysteries) could have been avoided had Harry known about and used it earlier.

  • I wanted to say that your videos inspire me, but I am from a small country (Bulgaria) and whenever someone sees my comment warms my heart. And I may be little, but I know much things. I felt proud with the video about Krum.
