I've used my Traveler's Notebook every single day for years, and am confident that it is, without exaggeration, the best notebook system in the world, and in this video, I share pretty much everything you need to know about the Traveler's Company Notebook.

Despite all the available technology, an analog notebook and pens are my main tools for maximum productivity; the tools I use every day, and form some of the most important parts of my Everyday Carry. My EDC notebook is the Traveler's Company Notebook originally founded in Japan.
They've created an entire robust ecosystem of customization inserts and accessories to form an incredible notebook system, no matter what you may use your notebook for. With literally hundreds of different notebook refills, paper types, calendar layouts, stationery add-ons, and just plain minimalistic yet tremendously high-quality notebook and scrapbook items, Travelers Company notebooks are to me, the end-all-be-all of notebooks.
I made another video sharing exactly how I use my Travelers Notebook for maximum productivity and clarity in decision-making, and I welcome you to check it out here: • How to regain control ...
I'm pretty basic, in that I just need one plain notebook refll for all of my needs, but you can easily daisy-chain and connect up to 4 or even 5 (although that's pushing it) notebook refills if you need a separate Traveler's notebook refill for your scheduling, sketching, notetaking, journaling, and scrapbooking. In this video, I also share how to use 2 notebook inserts, and how to use 3 notebook inserts.
It's interesting that something so simple, the Traveler's Company Notebook, has been the one item I've used the most for over half a decade (even more than my phone), and if you're the type of person who draws, writes handwritten notes, or anything else that's analog like that, I believe the Travelers Notebook is unequivocally the best option available.

    • JESUS CHRIST died for us on a cross for our sins. 3 days after his death he resurrected and was, is, and will be The LIVING GOD. Repent from your sins and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior in a prayer and also ask for the HOLY SPIRIT to come into you in that same prayer as well and have FAITH in JESUS CHRIST. You could come to Jesus Christ as you are, but once you accept Him, you have to become new, change, and be born again, and also turn away from your wicked ways. Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. God Bless You. The Bible is the true word of God. Please read the Bible and you will see Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Praise only be to GOD. JESUS CHRIST IS COMING SOON FOR HIS CHURCH.

  • A couple things happened during the viewing of this video. One, I ordered a Travelers Notebook "starting kit" of sorts, and I'm very excited. And two, you forced me to go dig out my old LAMY Al-Star fountain pen which I'd ditched in a drawer because the nib was leaking. I re-seated the nib and installed a new ink cartridge. My love for this pen is renewed. Thank you!

  • Great video - I have been using the passport style inserts from travelers for a while (no cover) and this has been helpful to decide to get a cover. The larger size seems so big - what is your preference when working with the two sizes - space to write vs size to carry. When I travel - I journal, have pre-written notes for myself and do urban sketching... I don't care for their watercolor art paper - but I think I could customize my own and fit it into the system. Thanks for the video - great info!

  • As a geologist, keeping field notes is professional habit. However, I found using a “travelers notebook” to be very useful in daily life. Thanks to your tip on adding multiple notebooks, I maintain two under the same cover. One is just for the journaling I to document the significant events of my life. The other is for taking notes while reading books on geology, archaeology (not my field but I love it) or other nonfiction books of substance. As for “significant events”, these are not usually monumental things such as weddings etc, but experiences I want to hang on to. For me they include climbing trips (the real thing not fake walls), kayaking trips, family events, motorcycle trips and any other moments that I want to relive in the future. I write these experiences down so that some day if age, illness or injury robs me of my freedom, I can open my journal and escape back to my glory days as a free-lance geologist, climber, kayaker or father and husband. I will add this too. Do not write down anything you do want others to read. Your journal will be part of your legacy. Write only what you want to be known. Be kind in your words about others. If you write vitriol to purge it from your heart and mind, that’s great. But do it in a separate notebook and burn it later. Thank you for posting this high quality, thoughtful video. Your presentation is flawless. It’s so logically sequenced, detailed but not cluttered and well articulated. It no doubt took a great deal of planning and practice as well as skill to produce. Well done!

  • Well, suede is also leather, of course, and I find it to be very durable. I like the suppleness of it over the stiffness of regular leather. I like Traveler's, and used it for about three years, but I switched over to a six ring binder with a leather cover because I find it much more versatile. I but tabbed page dividers, and I can switch pages around so every subject or type of writing stays together, and it always lays one hundred percent flat, which is important to me. I keep watching Traveler's videos looking for anything I might have missed when using that system, but so far, at least, the binder system is simply working much better.

  • A thank-you and a note on this video (👍). Thanks for the illustration of retaining three TC inserts. I have been doing it differently but I like yours better. Among other things, I think it may close better. On the TC brass ruler, you didn't mention the feature that I have come to like best: the slightly raised edge on one side. Why do I love that? No more ink-y ruler edges! I use a ruler a lot and it sounds a little laughable but this is a game changer, Even super-fast drying inks (which I don't always use) can leave ink on the edge of the ruler and sooner or later that's going to get things dirty. Caution on this excellent ruler: the brass is quite soft and it can bend if dropped. It's pretty easy to straighten out, but I've never had a stainless steel, plastic or aluminum ruler do that. Nevertheless, it's still my absolute favorite ruler.

I suffer from Multiple Notebooks Crowding my Bag Disease right now, it'll be a game-changer to have this new traveler's book. HOWEVER. I've found I need to make custom refills. Their sketch paper/watercolour paper inserts just didn't cut the mustard for me, so instead, I make my own out of 70lb toned tan paper or rough recycled brown sketch paper with cardstock covers. Thankfully, the measurements are easy to figure out if you have a ruler and some spare time!

  • I am very much on-board with this notebook and it's mission statement, but I don't use them myself. For one, these things are damn near impossible to put in a coat pocket and almost always require a bag. Second, I wish they'd put a pen slot in the spine area so you can put a pen inside the actual journal rather than attach it to the outside, where it's likely to get jostled off. I was also personally put off by the need for proprietary refills, but this is more of a "me" problem and my fear of running out of pages at the worst time.

    @Theomite@Theomite Жыл бұрын
    • Another downside I see is the choice of using elastics. Elastics tend to loosen over time so you're forced to buy others from them (which they sell). All in all it seems to me a system thought to keep you locked in. I like how it looks, but I don't like the philosophy.

  • Maurice.. thank you for the video. You presented a very cogent argument for using the Travelers Notebook system for journaling. However, there was one item that was over-looked as a component of your notebook, namely the "cotton zipper case" that you added as a customized piece to the basic Travelers setup. Do you know how and where to purchase this item? Does the company still make this? I would appreciate the help. Thanks.

    • Hi there, the cotton zipper case was launched in 2021 as part of a limited edition setup. Officially it's labelled as "Traveler’s Notebook Cotton Zipper Case" and came in four colours - orange and olive for regular, and blue and mustard for passport. Unfortunately as they were limited edition the odds of finding them still available in stock are dwindling rapidly. I can find all but the mustard passport one here in the UK but whether you'll be able to do the same where you are is questionable Still, if you look elsewhere you'll find people selling their own handmade versions of this insert cheaper than the official onces
