Our Sow is HUGE! Getting Ready for Piglets

Our sows are VERY pregnant! Today I have to get the pigs moved around into separate pens and get the farrowing pen ready. Then an update on our little vegetable garden, a calf check on the cattle, and a visit with the laying hens and broiler chickens.

  • My dad always told us that the reason he had a garden was to have something for the kids to do and stay out of trouble!! It usually worked, by the time it was done, we were too tired for trouble

  • It's always a pleasure to watch your videos. My son and I are cutting hay today, so between the times of checking each field, delivering water and relieving my son for lunch, I watched as much as I could, until I finished it. I enjoyed watching you and your opinion. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful week.

  • I really like the looks of your pigs. You really have a nice crosses. The color, the long and thick bodies and the shorter legs are really nice. They have nice temperament too... I wish more people kept pigs as nicely maintained as you do. Such nice and spacious pens. Can't wait to see all the pretty colors in the piglets.

My husband now is in his eighty’s and has severe dementia/Alzheimer’s and your mixed farming videos help to keep him engaged and busy for short periods of time several times a day. Thank you for sharing your day via video with us.

Sad but a fact of raising Pigs. I really like your idea of the heat lamp and partition in the corner to keep them away from Mom when she lays down. And the concrete floors make perfect sense to me. One of the problems with dirt floor is they will rut up a rock that's ten feet down!! ha ha. if it's in there they will find it and bring it to the surface. Thanks for another great video Pete. ECF

I took a trip for a few weeks when I normally would be starting cucumbers and such, and our weather has been all over the place, so I didn't really get the gardening bug I guess. I will hopefully have a good amount of tomatoes and just enough cucumbers and peppers.

  • First, you’re sow looks really nice & I Hope everything goes well with her birthing process and none of the piglets are killed❣️❣️We had a concrete floor in our barn for the versing animals and like you wake up a small amount of bedding on the floor, for the same reason!! Also, we nailed a board up just enough for the little big lights to get under and away from your mother because those cells are big and way a lot and while they don’t mean to lay on the babies it does tend to happen and especially if she still birthing from the first pig to the last pig… She gets uncomfortable & cantankerous!! Next, we had a salad it was so big… She was a Hamp (Black with white stripe for those who aren’t familiar), & she would be the biggest Sal of all❣️We were just sure she was going to have the most pigs and ask kids would have Bets about how many she would have..The first year she had one very big pig and my dad was very disappointed. Second year same thing; the third year when it happened again…She and her pig we’re loaded up and immediately taken to the Sell Barn as she was breaking Our bank of profits.!! Sandi Brock farms has a Ewe Called: “ Big Mama”..And there are many pictures of her w/ her SUPER-WIDE LOAD Just before she delivers. She is twice size or more of any of the other sheep. And every time she has ONE BIG LAMB!❣️❣️❣️❣️Big Mama is one of Sandi’s favorite Ewes as She is such a sweetheart and always comes up to Sandi and wants to be petted and loved on!! I don’t know what she’ll decide to do this year if it happens again. She is a very good mother that’s for sure. You really have a lot of nice animals & I like that you try new things. I find your videos very educational and interesting. And your farm always looks nice not necessarily perfect but it looks like a farm that is taken care of like ours was… Not looking to get an a Magazine but keeping things mowed and put away and parked nicely as much as you could !! I am a big fan of raised flowerbeds and garden beds especially as we get older❣️❣️❣️ When I grew up on the farm we had well over 4 acres of Garden crops that needed to be taken care of for family and then also an orchard. There were times where we complain because we didn’t want to do the work but we never complain about the wonderful produce that was available to us all year round. It was a lot of fun canning with Mom, and I really love going out to the garden in the evening in the summertime when it had cooled off and listening to the sound of the hall cutting through the black soil and the rhythm of multiple people going at the same time my father had an exceptional strong cut and angle into that garden and for me, that was a great time and he was in the garden with us, And of course Mommy, too.. many years later, they told me they were outside in the garden alone after dinner/supper and told us kids we didn’t have to go which of course we gave them no argument… And the reason they did that was so that they could have quiet time to talk about important business but also to get away from 12 kids and have “GROWN-UP” time💕💕💕💕💕❣️❣️They always hold hands and kiss details are in front of us kids and that was the best gift they could’ve given us is showing their love. We had a wonderful upbringing and I love the farm… I don’t think I got to say it on another video but you were out with the cows and you had to moved them, And you were talking about you just love listening to the sound of the cattle eating the grass. I always enjoy seeing cows on the hillside as I always thought it was such a beautiful scene there a dark color against the green grass!!❣️❣️❣️ but my other favorite thing was when I lived in Kansas, I was going out to my father-in-law‘s Wheatfield I’m just standing along the edge of the wheat fields and listening to the wheae

  • We lost 900 tomatoes due to a moth that blew in from desert. All it had to do was bite the plant and they all are dying. Our tomatoes in greenhouse are good. My brother replanted more tomatoes for late season. The 2 markets he goes to, he had sold out for everything he takes. We had ant problems attacking our cucumbers and the 100 degree heat is burning our 600 cantaloupe. The first blossom set. He went and turned them but heat is brutal. Second blossom set has started. Brother is getting 2 highland heifers that are pregnant by end of September.
