Whangamata Best Ever Surf Caught on Drone

Was a privilege to film the memories of the Easter 2015 swell that hot all weekend in a little surf town called Whangamata, To the locals who charge the break, thanks for sharing the wave with me and all the others who managed to get the timing right to experience one of New Zealand's best waves in truly epic conditions.
I surfed the Bar for a week straight in 1981. It was the best surfing I've ever had in my life. Head high surf the whole time and the crowd got up to maybe ten people.
Stayed there one Christmas in the late sixties with a firend. His cousin had a Triumph 650, possible a Trophy, and he took us for rides back and forth on the beach road, trying to look proper bikie tough. Not much surf at the time, bit of boozing on the front lawn, jeery verbals between the bikers and the surfers but not big grief. Got my own Triumph a year or so later, unfortunately 300cc short of the big time but making the same sound. At a party one night a couple of bikers asked me if I had arsed off yet. I told them I didn't know what they meant. They said "You will" and I did. Nice drone video, and a great bit of music. Recently watched The Endless Summer for the first time and it seemed ripe for an update; drone footage would transform it, as would a more informed attitude to the places they visit.

This setup reminds me of Boca Barranca in Costa Rica. Looks really similar. Nice waves.

Thats a shame i dont surf here much i usually go to mangawhai or black swamp near whangarei and they were firing on new years eve

yea if you want to surf consistently big stuff go north or go west, whangamata pumps but it aint that open to ocean swells
Not one bad comment here. The hl.ark of a bloody good effort all around. I gotta get back in the water man. Like a longing, constant tugging at my emotional core. Get stick, get wet. Been too long. I know I still got it in me. There is another session left in this boy. Watching this clean, Whanga bar action tells me it's close. I can smell it. What have I been doing the last 15 years? Surfing hasn't been a part of it so not living fully. Gotta put an end to this.
What the he'll happened to music lately?Too much heart and feeling. It's making men soft. Once a girl buys u a shirt and says it looks good on u then ur friends see u wearing it and laugh,it's time to buy a cigar and drink a pint of whisky and get in a fight.
