  • Just finished doing this to my renegade. Your instructions are on point. To those figuring it out, I and many others couldn't get the quick connect coupling off (without risk breaking the radiator). So save yourself time and buy a universal steel clamp with the Caterpillar or ez screw. Break the steel clip next to the quick connect and simply pull the hose from the connector. Be sure you have a catch pan. Also I would highly recommend a kit designed for radiators. Comes with all the attachments and a big funnel. Lastly my flush took about 3-5 hours. The most time consuming part is filling it back up with coolant and burping/purging air. You need to rev the engine until about 3000RPM and hold it there. Watch the coolant level rise. If you hold it to long it'll bubble up and go everywhere. Find the right tempo. rev up then stop and let it idle. Coolant level should go down. It was a messy job but it can be done at home. Be sure that at bare minimum you add all required coolant. Dont forget to compensate for the coolant that will spill everywhere. It's 1.7 gals of coolant/1 gallon and 89.6 oz. I used a scale. EDIT: upon reviewing the service manual there's a simple step that I think will make things more efficient. Once you get to the point of closing the valves and adding coolant to the max level of the tank PUT THE CAP TO THE COOLANT BACK ON AND TIGHTEN IT. Then proceed to start the engine and run at idle for 2 minutes. (Revving may need to be done here. Refer to above)Stop the engine and after it has cooled checked that the fluid level is not at the max mark on the tank. If it is keep repeating until it isnt. I think initially I was missing this step which is why it took so long for the air to be bled correctly. I hope this helps everyone.

  • You don't need to completely remove the bleeder screws. Two or three turns is fine, the air will escape around the threads and you can close them faster.

  • I can't believe how difficult they made it to get to a service point that's so frequently used for maintenance. I have a 2019 jeep compass and it took me two days to find out how. Thank you

    • I know Right! I never could get that quick connect piece off either after hours of trying. Ended up snapping the permanent hose clamp and just replaced it with a reusable one, and afterwards it only takes moments.

  • If you flush with distilled water, after you drain the radiator you still have about 3 quarts of water in the engine.. if you add 50/50 mix antifreeze, when that mixes in with the distilled water remaining in the engine, it won’t be a 50/50 mix anymore.

  • What about bleeder valves open when at operating temp would that work

  • Personally, I found it was a 100% easier to just remove the front bumper. Takes only a few extra minutes and I recommend getting extra trim clips since you'll probably break the first set. The coolant reservoir is right behind the bumper and super easy to reach once it's removed. I also say this helps because the coolant will splatter EVERYWHERE. So it's nice having extra room to hold a funnel under it. Seriously, this will get very messy so i recommend doing it over a garage floor with a mop nearby. For some reason, Mopar coolant is also super sticky so Pinesol and Simple Green helps.

  • I liked this. Simple and straight to the point. One note; little something about burping the system after the fill and bleed would have been helpful. 🙂

    • System on this vehicle as well as the jeep compass with same engine are self burping systems. You can squeeze the hoses if you would like but it is not necessary.

  • Can I use the same brand you used to top off of the oem fluid? I’m just a smidge low from a tiny leak and I currently have a 2019 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk with about 113k on it.

  • Mine is from 2015 do you think I should flush with distilled water first? Or just plopping the fluid in there will be fine?

    @DistantMist@DistantMist Жыл бұрын
    • if u want to do a actual flush use distilled water first and if its pretty dirty once you drain it you can keep running new water through until its clean then add your new coolant

    • Can I just put a hose in reservoir and run water until clean or do I need put hose back fill it and let it run then pull hose back and drain?

  • What about air in the system. Did you have to bleed it after you filled it up?

    @coreymiller6666@coreymiller6666 Жыл бұрын
    • It had very little, once the thermostat opened up snd fans kicked on it self burped the air out then i just added the coolant needed. I just left the reservoir cover off until it was up to temp

    • yes, coolant goes bad overtime, old coolant can start causing corrosion of the cooling system, as well as not cool the engine as well which can be very bad especially if your engine starts overheating. I recommend changing it asap

  • Watch out . . on high mileage engines, the radiator is weak and will break even if you barley pry on the lower hose . . . There has to be a better place to drain it . . . Now the lower hose couple o-ring is compromised and could leak also . .
