That was the second bullet point of the defence. Cohen did it, drumpf didn't know anything about it. Cohen went to prison for what Cohen did. It will be interesting to see if they can pull that one off, but it ain't looking good right now.
That's one of the points of contention here. Prosecutors will be trying to make the case that Cohen was taking action at Trump's behest, defense will be trying to say he operated on his own.

They keep repeating, "Nothing happened" and yet, they can't even provide proof of their baseless claims.
Nothing happened is a little easier to try to prove. They only have to hit the implications, and people generally do badly at trying to figure out what things imply. Stupid story: It's a superhero movie thing, but it's pretty obvious. One of the characters had a grandfather, which was the hero's mother's father. That is shown on film and in dialog. The other parent, his father, is an alien. He's not a half-alien and he is ancient. By ancient, I mean thousands to millions of years old. A guy tried to claim a guy that is a little over 100 years was the ancient alien's parent because he made the statement that humans have multiple grandfathers when someone else said the guy that lived a little over a hundred years could not be a grandfather because we know who the maternal grandfather was. When I pointed out that he stated through his implication that the human would have to be the paternal grandfather, which meant he was the father of the thousand to millions of years old alien, the guy said he never said such a thing. He couldn't understand his own implication. This is the Trump story. Michael Cohen set up payments for $180,000. $130,000 was the loan and $50,000 was for tech services. Because Trump claimed it was income rather than legal reimbursements, the money became income, and as such, the government was going to take a full $180,000 of the payment as taxation, which means that $180,000 of the future payment was going to be taxation, and it was going to go to the government because of the mischaracterization of income rather than reimbursement. That means that $360,000 was actually reimbursement for the value of the loan. $60,000 was claimed to be a year-end bonus for the man. That brings everything up to $420,000. Year-end bonuses are not the man's actual wage, right? How much of the money was Cohen's actual wage for doing this particular legal work? It's negative because the loan actually had interest accruing and it doesn't pay for payroll taxes such as Social Security and Medicare. We are supposed to believe this math was actual accounting. If you do not look at what the actual wage was based on the story, someone might actually believe this nonsense.
And then there’s the audio recording where he’s the one directing the payments by saying why don’t we just pay in cash, and then there is him saying well let’s stiff her now that I am president we don’t need to pay her, which means it wasn’t for his familyI think this is an open case my opinion he’s unless he gets to the jury and threatens them

I've always been an extremely harsh critic of our political apparatus, ALL SIDES. ZERO BIAS! That being said, I'm absolutely blown away with the GOP. The guy has clearly broken the law and charged many many many times. He's a co-conspirator in a case where the other conspirator went to Prison! And the GOP nominates this guy to represent the republican party. Again, I'm absolutely blown away. Almost certainly, there'll be documentaries and perhaps a movie. This will be remembered, and history will not be good to all those who were complicit. Republicans need someone like Mitt Romney or Liz Cheney to lead this party back to where it should be.

He told me he did so, because it was more convenient, but what he was doing was getting 5% cash back on his personal credit card(s) at MY expense, because the few hundred dollars it cost for lunch/dinner and so on was my dime, not his! He did this for awhile. I said all that to say this, he deserved to be fired, yet Trump is doing everything he can to avoid being held accountable for his crimes? Make it make sense!

Donnie's defenses/excuses typically are: 1) I didn't do it and nothing happened. 2) If I did it, it wasn't wrong. 3) If I did it and it was wrong, then so what? Others do it too and get away with it, so it's unfair to punish me and I should also be allowed to get away with it. 4) Yeah, I did it.
