  • Answer to rugs lifesavers question : When you break the lifesaver apart, you're breaking apart sugars inside the candy. The sugars release little electrical charges in the air. These charges attract the oppositely charged nitrogen in the air. When the two meet, they react in a tiny spark that you can see.

  • Answer to Rug's question about lifesavers: All hard sugar based candies give off some light when you bite them but it's usually extremely faint, this occurs when the sugar in crystal form breaks and some of the electrons from the sugar is forced out of their atomic fields. These electrons then bump into nitrogen molecules (our atmosphere is ~78% nitrogen so it's everywhere 😂😂) these nitrogen molecules get excited and give off ultraviolet (nonvisible) light, but they do emit a small amount of visible light as well. But as you know, specifically wintergreen lifesavers give off a much greater amount of light and that's because of a compound called methyl salicylate which basically absorbs the ultraviolet light and reemits it as visible blue light 👍👍

  • This is due to triboluminescence, which is the emission of light resulting from something being smashed or torn. If you do this to a Wint-O-Green Life Saver, you can see a much greater amount of light (blue sparks!) due to the wintergreen flavoring or methyl this is how life savers spark.

  • FYI: I sound like a nerd, but The secret message with the lemonade was used by allied POWs in ww2. They got it, waited for the liquid to go away, then sent it as mail to people outside, as if Axis forces saw anything that happens to the POWs in the Prison camp ( Torture, for example ), they would not send it. So after it dried, they would send it to outsiders, telling them about the horrible things that happened there. They put the paper in a stove for 170 degrees for 10 minutes, and the message would be in brown. Sorta like invisible ink. But here's the thing. There were no lemons in the camps. So is this story true? Yes. They instead used things like their own urine ( this is not recommended ) and other yellow-ish? liquids. Thanks for listening -Waffles
