For Beekeepers, it is essential to be able to make use of the bees wax as a valuable product alongside the honey. The most popular way to harvest the wax is by solar wax melter. Beekeeping is my hobby and caring for bees always inspires new ideas and inventions. Here is how we made our solar wax melter out of a used wine barrel.

My grandfather had Bee Hives an when he was getting the honey out if you were good he would give you some bees wax to chew!. It was a treat! Something you didn't get all the time! I was very young but I set real still an watched him squeeze the honey through cloth. He had big hands! I thought about a couple hives but I guess not. A cat or raccoon would get into them! Wonted to share my memories. Thanks for sharing your life!

I have loved every video you've made, & of course, love Nanny to pieces. She is such a sweetheart, Daddy's little helper, who loves you, & is in a home where she is so loved too. Our kitties are about the same age, & my Smokey's facial structure is so similar they could be siblings, so I have a special affinity for her. While you were making the wooden frame for the front of the barrel it looked as though you were *actually* making a Bear sized toilet seat for Dandy, the Bear, ready for when he comes visiting next year. 😉🤭😅 Joking aside, might I respectfully make a suggestion? With the best will in the world, beeswax gets everywhere no matter how hard you try. So it may be worth your while to line the inside of the lower access panel in the same way you did for rest of the barrel. It will be much easier to maintain/keep clean; wax and dirt won't build up around the screws etc. Either way, you looked as though you had a lot of fun and satisfaction with this project; under Nanny's careful *furpurrvision* of course.😉😅
I almost enjoyed building it myself.... With Nanny translating her thoughts into action using your hands made it a piece of joy! You both deserve each other 👌 God bless you all 🙏

In colder climates maybe a double glazed glass cover rather than the thermoplastic one might be more effective to help raise the temperature. Of course this would have to be custom-made & be more costly but ultimately should be more durable; it just depends on an individual's priorities.

Love your big kitty...we have a huge Ragdoll cat Mr Misty, looks like your cat! Our friends "hosted" their acerage to a few bee keepers, but the colonies around here keep getting stolen or come up missing....its not easy keeping them....but we love honey!

I love beeswax, I always use beeswax candles and lip balm. I buy my wax from our local ‘honey man’ I also make my own encaustic paint with it. The smell is gorgeous. With the temperature achieved and the small hole for the drips, is the extracted wax mostly pure, no debris? (I was wondering if it would smell like wine but I guess not with all that lining and insulation, too bad!) Nanny loves good craftsmanship and creative problem solving that respect nature’s produce and the hard work that ensures nothing is wasted. So good to see your name pop up.
