  • For Shaq he could have been an MVP during his orlando days but he had heavy competition back then... in his Lakers days he played with Kobe and that limited his MVP chances... add media bias against both Kobe and Shaq and the mvp traditionally going to guys with better narratives and that's a major reason why they both "only" have one MVP a piece

    @braxton9192@braxton91924 жыл бұрын
    • Idris Burch Fair points. Looking back at stats doesn’t tell the whole story. It’s understandably hard to win multiple MVPs and even more difficult to get it consecutively. Makes Steph, MJ, and Nash accomplishments wildly impressive. That bein said, Shaq has a legit case for the 04 MVP. Avg 23/10.5 to Nashes 15.5/11.5. Lowest scoring average every for an MVP that year. But Nash also changed the game that year similar to how Curry did his mvp season. The numbers just didn’t quite reflect it. Shaq had other seasons before that were way better statistically and that definitely hurt him. So his season didn’t stand out as much as Nashes did that yr

  • Kobe absolutely deserved the MVP in 2006. His team was complete trash with Smush Parker, Kwame Brown and Luke Walton in it. He averaged 35 ppg and carried his team into the playoffs in the arguably most competitive western confrence ever. He had the most historic games the NBA has seen in this season while playing his heart out. Nash had a great supporting cast. Its the same with Westbrooks MVP season, carried a trash team with no shooters into the playoffs winning 47 games while averaging 30 ppg and a triple double. If Westbrook was able to win MVP that season then Kobe absolutely deserved it.

    • Looking back on the ‘06 season, I think Iverson and LeBron both arguably had a better season than Kobe that year. Kobe averaged 35 ppg, but Iverson and Lebron were both also at 33 ppg & 31 ppg respectively. Iverson averaged more assists, and LeBron was better across the board, hence why he finished 2nd. His ‘06 Cavs team was just as bad if not worse than Kobe’s.

Nash had a great year, he led us to a good record despite losing Stoudemire at the beginning of the year but we still had a good team. Marion, Bell, a non-lazy Diaw, an unusually motivated Tim Thomas, Kurt Thomas, a solid Barbosa. None of them great players but a lot of really good players while Kobe really did have a crappy group around him. That Lakers team was bad and Kobe, in a fairly tough Western Conference, got them to the playoffs and they were competitive that year with the best of the West. Trust me, giving Kobe credit over Nash hurts me and I'm going to flog myself for saying such blasphemy but I truly do believe it.

  • Okay seriously, there are just so many folks here that don't get it. This award is called the MVP (Most VALUABLE Player), not BP (Best Player) or GP (Greatest Player). If there was ever an award for that in the regular season, then yeah, Shaq and Kobe would arguably win many of those. But this is an award in which a player is the most VALUABLE of their respective team. Now while "valuable" is a subjective adjective since it's difficult to pinpoint, the award is more for how successful the player has made their team and how their skills actually have more of an impact on the team as a whole rather than their skills alone. It's not all about scoring or many flashy shit. Also, this award is for who was the most valuable for their team in the REGULAR SEASON! So quit bringing up the finals whenever you want to make an opposing argument against a player over whether or not he deserved the MVP. Also, why are you people even bitching about Shaq and Kobe winning only one MVP anyways? They both already won championship rings and more than one Finals MVP each. So I don't see what the fuck people are still whining about. PS, Rest in peace Kobe, as well as your daughter, the pilot, and the other six passengers who were in that chopper.

But the east only had 3 50+ win teams, the west had 6 50+ win teams (both 7th and 8th seeds were 1-2 games off from 50 wins). The 4th seeded Hawks wouldn't even be the 8th seed in the west. So yeah, getting to 66 wins and piling stats is easy if you keep playing weaker teams over and over. Same case in 2010, Lakers were 57-25, Cavs were 61-21. East had 4 50+ win teams, West had all 8 seeds winning 50+ or more. 4th seed and eventual eastern conference champ celtics wouldn't even be in the playoffs in the west. Doing the math, Western teams played the 15 Eastern teams 30 times. The remaining 52 games, they play against the 15 Western teams.

Lebron plays in the west, a tougher conference, with less impressive stats than Giannis but 2nd overall in the league. I’m telling you, if you play the hornets and the wizards and weak eastern teams, it’s easy to pile up stats and wins lol. Oh and btw, I’m a Lebron fan but even I know that the Cavs winning 60+ games in 09-10 wasn’t impressive. Another evidence that the east was so weak in that time, Devin harris, rashard lewis and mo fucking williams were all stars. @mattmmixes@mattmmixes4 жыл бұрын
    • @@Barbwiretape While I see what you're getting at, there's a difference between having all-star teammates, and top players in the league as teammates while winning MVP. KD won in 2014, when several other PGs would be considered better than westbrook. Lebron won 2 in Miami ad D-wade declined (and people pretend bosh doesn't exist). As far as Steph, Nash and Tim Duncan, they had no superstar/top player in the league talent to take votes away from them (Klay isnt getting mvp votes in 2015 or 2016, same with Stoudemire in 05-06, and Tony Parker and Ginobili werent taking anything away from Duncan's 2 MVP seasons)

We know Kobe was better than Nash, Nash just fit the MVP formula better than Kobe (again MVP is not the best player of the year award).

  • One answer: Because they played together It's hard to win an MVP when your team is stacked That's why LeBron(playing alongside AD) and KD(playing alongside Harden and Irving) won't win MVP this season And when they actually did spilt, LeBron James matured into superstardom

    @gabegrein2558@gabegrein25584 жыл бұрын
    • I'll never be able to get over Harden not winning 2019 MVP. Giannis had a good season with great numbers, but Harden had a legendary season. All the Rockets' starters + the 6th man were injured at some point including Harden. He carried an injured team in the west to the 4th seed. If Giannis's team had the injuries Harden's team had, he wouldn't have even been in the MVP conversation. Also the media keeps trying to say Harden isn't good in the playoffs. Last 2 seasons that certainly hasn't been true.

Dirk has the better individual year, his team was only one game behind the Heat, in a tougher conference, and compared to what we’ve seen from Shaq before then, there’s no way he should be considered MVP with those numbers unless his team did something historic.
