As a BTS fan and seeing the way media has treated them since 2017 when they were first shaking up the western music industry, I could see a hit piece when I saw it. You can clearly see who the industry darlings are *cough Taylor Swift cough cough* and who are the outsiders. With Hasan, it's so funny that his successful Netflix show was cancelled AND that he had a hit piece like this released when he was frontrunner for The Daily Show. My question is: who doesn't want Hasan to have a voice?
considering how the currently situation is and how US is being seeing now? A lot of people.
You know there's a saying, "To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize". Just some food for thought.
I love how perceptive you guys are normally regarding socio and geopolitque. I hope South Asians, and Indians in particular could be as "big picture" someday.
I never liked his style of comedy.
Comedians take experiences they've had and embellish them for jokes. Literally every comedian does this. Weird how our comedians are held to a higher standard than our politicians, judges, and lawyers.
typically its taking a true premise and embellishing the punchline to make the joke. it's still based from reality. hassan lied about the original premise the whole joke is based on. like the prom date rejecting him might be true, but was it because he was brown? her ending up going with another brown person likely points to that being embellished.
I think both points are missing the point. You can lie and embellish. You can even fully lie. As long as it's funny, it's funny. But Hasan goes after political points in actual politics. And when the joke stops just being served as just a joke, but a basis for his political points, I think that's why people received it the way they did reacting to the hitpiece. And why comedians were absolutely roasting him. The new yorker is a hit piece specialist. They gonna do what they gonna do. Sucks Hasan is just responding to that portion
@@youxknowitbro just go and watch his video he didn't say tht it was the girls fault. ...it was her parents who racist against brown. .....later on she married brown guys which informed Hasan and her parents and on from tht
and some comedians are held to different standards than other comedians. which groups belong to the former vs the latter is super interesting and complex.
🎯
I saw the New Yorker article and first thought that isn't accurate and was a bit skeptical, after Hasan's response I felt a bit of relief. I really like his comedic style and hope nothing but the best for the guy.
it was really good to hear clips from their interview where the arrogance in the new yorker interviewer was really really obvious.
not sure if it was arrogance or they had an angle and only were looking to bolster their case, basically by fabricating quotes
Especially asking multiple if Craig Monteilh deserves a heads up before saying that joke (even though he wasn't named).
that 'sure' boiled my blood. That was someone actively listening for sentences she could put on her hit piece. These news sites don't deserve our money and attention. Independent journalism is the only way forward and is more accessible than ever. Fuck these guys.
It's ridiculous that Hasan's story is critiqued and questioned, but where is this energy for other comedian's stories?
So I'm left of liberal and I thought it was funny when the NYTimes talking heads were criticizing him as well. There's always the haters/crabs in a bucket where they're looking for white liberal adjacency and affirmation by playing down "their own." "I'm not like those other brown people - look at me, I disapprove of Hasan!" I thought the whole thing was so silly when it first came out.
Asian Americans are always held to a higher standard-- getting into colleges, getting into social groups, getting a promotion, the list goes on....
This wasn't Patriot Act, it was a comedy show. No one should be expecting full on truthful stories when trying to make you laugh.
after the vedion on indian polotics i know he's a liar
Andrew: "Tell the TRUTH, Hasan, you and your fans will be better for it..." David: "You can't handle the TRUTH, Andrew!!" ☹
The hubris New Yorker has: "Our piece, which includes Minhaj’s perspective at length, was carefully reported and fact-checked. It is based on interviews with more than twenty people, including former 'Patriot Act' and 'Daily Show' staffers; members of Minhaj’s security team; and people who have been the subject of his standup work, including the former F.B.I. informant “Brother Eric” and the woman at the center of his prom-rejection story. We stand by our story."
Funny how it was a boiler plate denial of liability statement. CONDé NAST made them lawyer up because there was obvious Libel suit ground. Now it's just an impossible fight for Hasan to outspend on legal fees against CONDé NAST.
There are probably tons of comedians who stretch the truth/fabricate/embellish/etc. on their comedy bits but no one wants to backup Hasan because they probably don't want to ruin their careers as well.
I don't think Dave Chappelle really ran into that baby in the hood selling weed, nor did that baby sneak into the club.
@@saeedhossain6099 there is a difference between lying for a joke, and lying about taking your daughter to the hospital because you want to be the muslim jussie smollett
@@Usheeguxieye yet it would appear the letter was sent and the powder did spill, and if you're questioning if this wasn't a threat, then your idea of risk is very different than I think most people who would consider a mailed biohazard a reasonable threat on someone's life and family
What are you talking about, I already know all that. He still lied about having to take his daughter to the hospital which is a clear made up lie. Infact it didnt even land on his daughter. You can cope for his lies all you want though @@saeedhossain6099
@@saeedhossain6099 Yes but it's a pretty clear embellishment right? No one thinks an actual baby was out selling weed. The stories Hasan creates had no clear indications that they were embellishments and were not funny at all. He's telling these "embellishments" like they really happened that way and he's admitted they didn't. Seems like a lie to me.
It was a Wall Street hit job....
Same disrespect Aziz endured to try to "cancel" him.
It is sad, but I think you guys are correct that his delay in responding hurt him, even in my fan eyes. I don't know that the reporter was necessarily out to hurt him, but I do think her neglecting what he said and the proof he held aided public interest in her story; it also hurt his career, at least in the short term. If she attempted to balance out her story more, she would have lost relevancy and people's attention. I used to be a nurse, and it makes me sad that I remembered patients who seemed to act inappropriately more than the many with whom I interacted with mutual respect or fondness. HM was smart to keep a copy of the interview.
If The New Yorker is so sure of their story and stand by it, they can show the receipts too. where are the interviews they had with so many people?
Did people really think every single story a comedian tells is 100% factual...
There's always gonna be some embellishments - this shouldn't have even been an issue
*It was such an obvious hit piece with lukewarm points! Thanks for being unbiased!*
Thanks for drawing attention to this because Hasan definitely brought receipts!
First of all maybe Journalists should fact check and grill politicians rather than Comedians🤦🏻♂️. Hasan brought the receipts, that reporter lady gonna be flipping burgers at McDonald's with her "journalism" degree.
Its not confusing. The new joker has to be contempt. She needs to be held accountable. It demaging a man's career
Thanks for covering this topic -- I had seen his rebuttal video and hope everyone gets to see it themselves. He has a lot of integrity, and the New Yorker piece was totally uncalled for. What's scary is that Clare Malone's position at the New Yorker is -- she's a fact-checker. That's her job. And she got Hasan's situation so wrong, that it feels personal, feels like she has a hidden agenda against him that she didn't reveal. So she wasn't up front about what her motivations were, and she fact-checked Hasan single-handedly without fact-checking any of the other comedians vying for a Daily Show spot. Hasan's stories are true in their essence, and highlight things that his community goes through daily, that need light shed on them. Having a white woman try to discredit him feels -- all too easy, shame on her. I appreciate the video speaking out on Hasan's behalf!
Did anyone die or lose money from his "stories"? If not, then what's the big deal. He's a comedian and he's suppose to tell stories. Did you think he was going to give you all the deets? 😂😅
There have been too mamy of these type of "hitpiece" created to cancel/hurt certain people..... and yet people still fail to learn to wait to hear from both parties involved prior to take a position.... They just find joy in someone else' downfall. So sad the world we live in.... God have mercy on us!
Great you guys are covering other Asians too :)
He should sue their a$$
Good luck suing CONDé NAST. That's why they keep doing these defamatory hit pieces. They know very few people have any change to fight them legally.
Love Hassan ❤Ethiopia
Obviously It was a hit piece by on an Asian guy who was about to get the reign of Daily Show!
New Yorker Hit Piece …Daily Dhow Host gone
My question is to the duality of his career, are we so unintelligent to not understand the two?
I hope what the New Yorker did doesn't hurt Hassan's career
That's how people are ...WHEN THEY DON'T WANNA ACCEPT THAT THEY DID A SOCIAL MEDIA TRIAL OF AN INNOCENT PERSON! JEEZ...own up to it 😒
Hasan seems like a super interesting person and doesn't come off as a liar.
💩Tawana Brawley is Hassan‘s spirit animal.
Hassan!!! Did we even believe the New Yorker? Nah. He just changed timelines for humor. But the events DID occur.
Been a fan of you guys for a long time. You clearly are a voice for minority groups. But please say Hasan's name correctly. It's not that hard. I don't understand why so many people call him "Minaj".
Yeah, the least someone can do is learning someone’s name correctly. It isn’t even hard…
That prom girl is being harassed by his crazy fanbase.
another Karen coming after brown comedians
I'm confused. Don't comic exaggerate to tell a funny story or tell a story that happened to someone else? Cause comics have writters that right their material. Richard Pryor has writers. I'm not seeing the controversy.
i support hasan
It's more than supporting Hasan. It's about not allowing Character Assassination Hit Pieces to be effective. Then bringing consequences to those who publish such false allegations. Way more important and effects way more lives.
shameful reporting, NYT reporter should have ran it pass thier editiors.
Comedians often exaggerates stories or even invent stories and I have no problem with that. What I didn't like about Hasan is that I hate his type of comedy where it's not funny but sad instead? Lame. F this guy, may he keep failing. I don't want to see him as host of anything.
IN the grand scheme of things, he didn't lie about something about something hugely important but it will be hard to take him seriously if we are to ever empathize with him and his stories ever again... he's not just a comedian, he relies on some moments in his bits to be emotional and that part will be in doubt going forward
Not at all.
You didn't even watch his clip. If you did you'd realize there's nothing wrong with what he did. At the end of the day the stories he tells are true to many other people. If you refuse to acknowledge other people's experiences that says more about you than him.
I am sure senpai Hasan will notice you if you just believe. I actually liked him as a comedic person and commentator, but I cannot take his feelsy takes as serious anymore, and that's ok... so you can relax lol. @@Murmurrr
@@MedalionDS9WTF you just continued to ignore the new information. That is just a sad way to change the subject and resort to personal attacks. Being willfully ignorant is way worse.
Yeah I think I'll lose sleep over this. Thanks@@Neojhun
I like the guy but I don’t think he’s a good fit for the daily show
Yeah he's style is too specific for daily show. Hasan should do something bigger better not based on legacy show.
@@Neojhun exactly what I meant
A white girl’s parents did not think he is a good fit at as a prom date
