1st part, The attack
Since September 1941, fighting has been raging in North Africa for the control of Libya between the British and the Axis countries.
Mussolini, jealous of the conquests of the Third Reich and who wanted to conquer Egypt, suffered a crushing defeat which led to the German intervention and the sending of a mechanized corps, the famous Afrika Korps, commanded by general Rommel.
In the difficult conditions of the desert, with enormous logistical constraints and a smaller force than the British, he won surprising victories and earned the nickname of "Desert Fox".
In May 1942, after having driven General Ritchie's 8th Army out of Cyrenaica, Rommel was in front of the defensive line of Gazala, about a hundred kilometers from Tobruk, a key city in the campaign.
On the 26th, he attacked.
