It will take us close to the most savage islands in these waters, the Fiji Islands, where cannibalism is perfected almost to a science, and from there, my friends, God willing, we shall proceed on to the Great Barrier Reef itself, then to New Holland, and from there across the Timor Sea to Kupang. And now it will take us at least two months, and we have provisions and water enough to last us one week. So that is the situation, gentlemen, plain and simple.

  • How the fuck did Vangelis come up with the kind of music he came up with, having been born here in Greece, in a totally different music environment, is astonishing even more so than the fact that he was mostly self taught.And if you check just how many iconic,unforgettable tunes he's produced and at what age (he wasnt even 40 when he made Charriots of Fire), and thats not even taking Aphrodite's Child into account.The very definition of a divine gift

  • First of all: I am not a composer. But I like good music, so I post my opinion here: Composing was in that time was different, then it is now. Nowadays we got a lot of "cheap" music to please the publishers an make money. None of this will prevail over time. Instead, all good composers will always be remembered in future times. The generations to come will still be listening to Vangelis and Enricio Moricone and a few others. Just like Beethoven, Mozart and others are still valued today. I'm thankful that I was alive when Morrricione, Vangelis, and a few others released their music for the first time. It was mind blowing,,,, Thank you, Legends!

Beginning here at 19:35, my wife and I couldn't get enough of that theme. Living so far north, we used to dream of one day visiting Tahiti. Compare for yourself: kzhead.info/sun/qLOhmMqxbnaLZWg/bejne.html . I think Dominik Hauser just rearranged the compositions of Vangelis. I just don't get why though cause Vangelis' compositions are miles better.

    • I listened to that portion, the end credits, as I took off on an Air New Zealand flight from Los Angeles to Fiji in 2003. Though a seasoned traveler I was a bit anxious as it was 23:30 and I’d never flown over the Pacific before, it was pitch black the whole way across and I knew there was nowhere to land for the next six hours at least. I was a little scared. But listening to this as we left lax, knowing I was heading to the South Pacific for the first time as cook and Bligh did made me feel better, like it was an exciting adventure ❤️

Bligh saved him from numerous mistakes early in his career including a near mutiny on another ship for which he was almost hanged. William Bligh was a strict captain to be sure but he wasn't the monster that many books and movies make him out to be. Bligh was actually a civilian ship owner and captain who held a commission in the Naval Reserve and and he was forced by the Admiralty into taking HMS Bounty on her ill-starred voyage. Needless to say he was not happy about it.

      @TiredOldDude@TiredOldDude3 жыл бұрын
    • @@TiredOldDude Yes I think that as well. I read an adapted version of Bligh's own published account of the expedition and I didn't really get the idea that he behaved in an unbecoming manner, especially for what was the norm at the time. In fact it seemed that the crew he was able to afford was not the best material in terms of discipline and commitement for such a long dangerous circumnavigation voyage.

    • It's a way under-evaluated.....Mel Gibson, Sir Antony Hopkins, The master Dany Day Lewys, Vangelis..this must be a cult, but not many people discovered this gem. We are the few lucky ones!

  • By far, the greatest movie/Documentary of it’s time! This movie is the closest to being accurate for the events that actually accord ar the time! The main stars fit the plot actually, according to the known facts in this matter! I’ve watched this movie over and over for several years! The Vangelis sounds are out of this world! Once you’ve start to watch this video of the bounty, you are hooked until the end! It’s worse than trying to eat just a few peanuts but, you have to keep munching!

    • Actually Blight was on a trial to find out the reason of mutiny.In the view of Admirality that was a real reason for such desperate deed of half of crew.He was cleared but got bad fame and his career was over.The music really correspond to the clime of the situation surrounding the ship'd voyage and boost the emotion very well.

I have always thought of the old days Blackbeard and the like going up this gorge to the open sea and the Bristol Channel. I wish I was alive in the 1750s in Bristol

Viva Vangelis...!
