I used an angle grinder with a diamond blade to cut trough the steel of this tire's tread. I bought it at Home Depot for $39

  • I've been sweating trying to cut it w a hand saw, it was so frustrating but I'll buy one of those electric ones, thanks for the demo!!!

  • Thanks, When I use a similar tool, I find it smoother to do the cutting with the bottom of the blade where it is coming toward the motor not the end where it is like a chainsaw doing kick back.

  • If you turn the blade guard so the wheel is exposed towards the side of the grinder instead of it being exposed on the end, you have a lot better control of the grinder and it doesn't jump around as much. At least in my experience. :)

    @patcurry201B@patcurry201B2 жыл бұрын
    • You're correct, using the front end causes kickback, just like using the tip of a chainsaw. It is best to use the lower part of the wheel for cutting

  • Sweet! I was using a Sawzall but couldn't cut the steel so thank you! I will use both. The Sawzall for the rubber and finish with the angle grinder!

  • A decently powered log splitter if you cut tyres regularly .You may need a solid steel back stop so ram reach goes all the way

  • I use a 7 1/2" circular saw with a 24 tooth carbide blade to cut the tread just don't force it through let the saw do all of the work. I use a fixed blade utility knife for the side wall and a 36" pair of bolt cutters for the bead. With the tire still on the rim you cut a hole in the side wall, so the bolt cutters fit into it and cut the bead, it just takes a little more force.

    • I think having something or someone available to pull the rubber sides away from blade would be a better option. I think the smoke from the burning oil might be a bit noxious.

  • I suggest using a way lighter pressure. The angle grinder cuts better if the disk spins at its max velocity. Plus, adding that ammount of pressure is pretty dengerous (risk of being drag or kickback)

  • Your ryobi isnt strong enough. Best is to just cut inner metal band, with the angle grinder, and take the rest with a reciprocating saw ( also less messy).. a strong bolt cutter and using body weight to lean in on the tool, can also cut the metal band. ✌️✌️✌️

  • When you put it on the steel bead go from the from the top but the bottom of the grinder so it doesn't jerk you over all the time when you do a point cut. So if you put it on the bottom of the blade I'm kind of push it down. It's not going to kick so much forward all the time
