Jail? I don’t know about that, but civil action, perhaps
@Argonautx665 жыл бұрын
@@ergog634 No, but in this instance and the time period this scene represents, it was due to racial discrimination because the coach of the Titans (Denzel Washington) and some of the players were black. The school the Titans were a part of had undergone de-segregation the year prior, and this was the first year the Titans were a mixed-race team. The refs were colossal asswipes to set the context of the scene. It was probably rather representative of what the late 60s/early 70s were like in small town America. Not so much these days.

Subtle gesture that Will Patton does just before his huddle speech - puts his hand on the ref’s shoulder, says “all right” and smiles a little. Just brilliant. It’s like an implicit “screw you” before he summons the D. Sets up the speech beautifully. Also, listen to his voice change right as he says, “I don’t want them to gain another yard.” Gets quieter, lower, and gravelly. Displays a controlled coiled rage before he opens it up and fires up the team. Again, very impressive acting. I can watch this scene 10 times and still get riled up.

I remember this when Yost is going to be reinstated as head coach, if Denzel lost a game he will get sacked, so the two guys sitting near Yost's daughter put up a scheme so the team would lose, as a kid everyone is getting hyped up or riled up with the "Blitz all night" line, but for me it's the part where he had to choose between his daughter's happiness by going to Coaches Hall of Fame or be the number two guy for Denzel, yet he saw the bigger picture and chose the team over his Hall of Fame dream. In my school when the teacher showed this movie and had to write an essay about it on which part of the movie have the most to take away from, I chose the moment when Yost chose to go up to the referee's face and tell him to not cheat the game away, so in my essay I wrote "understand the bigger picture, choose the guys you either coach, teach or play for rather than choosing for your own personal gains, since solidarity and the people around you in general is the bigger picture and it's the best feeling when you can make other happy or feel good while sacrifice your own, since that'll create an everlasting legacy" I still remember the words until today, my teacher gave me an A+ for the essay.

This is such an amazing and inspirational turning point in the movie, and in his attitude. He “woke up” and realized that the game was rigged, and that the boys deserved this opportunity more than him getting on the wall of fame. Seen from todays world situation where segregation is in the wind again, I wish this movie was mandatory to watch once a year. It’s such a important topic imo, where they overcome the skincolor and work together. Personally I don’t care much about American football, but the acting by Denzel, the story it tells and the message it sends is truly hitting home every time I watch it, which is at least once a year.

It was more than just saving Herman as well. It was saving the boys from the massive media circus that would have came, the harassment from the town, & the schools reputation. Imagine if word had gotten out that Alexandria was involved in a fixed game. So much was on the line & this moment changed the movie

Get kind of crazy (like the players do, Gary pointing at the other coach) and just throw yourself into whatever it is you’re doing 110%. I played some football for 10 years and my best days were when life got me down and I just said fuck it man, let me hit some people even if I go down with them. Sometimes you just got to let it go.
Ok, is this true? In the US you can actually go to jail for making some dodgy calls in a football game?
Jail? I don’t know about that, but civil action, perhaps

This movie still relates to what's going on in 2020 who would of thought after all these years!
Racism will always exist unfortunately
I'm hoping it will be different this time.
Not at all. Back then was completely different
Can you given an example, even remotely?
That's because we still have white redneck Republicans in this country and they will still say s*** like I don't give a f*** if every single one of your friends are African-American and you're white if you sit there and say that you have a lot of black friends you're a racist and a big appearance simple inside now if you find another way to put it that's another thing but most people that say that s***are very naive and would still vote for somebody like Tommy tuberville
Where is segregation in todays world? Are you really that brainwashed by the leftist media? Come on dude. Wake up.
Segregation is only becoming a thing because the news is relentlessly spinning it into a thing again. They're making a self-fulfilling prophecy where one no longer existed. The big news corporations & social media corporations. THEY'RE the ones that need to see this movie again. Not us normal people who already have when we were in school.
Yoast's speech gives me goosebumps every time

I have seen this movie so many times, I love it. This is one of the best Disney movies I have ever seen that is non anime. Great story, and first class performance by the entire cast!;
One of the greatest lines in movie history! Will Patton nailed that line down to a T! I was most definitely inspired by that line ever since he said it! This is one of my favorite all time films and most definitely in my top 2 of all time sports movies!
I forget how great this movie is.

It was just a movie. In real life, both teams were integrated. It was a good scene though.
