    • @@kashankhan6950 because these aren't like ufc type events. After the 80s martial arts tournaments weren't really put in the spotlight. And add on top of that, video cameras that were cheap with decent quality weren't really super common until the early 2000s. These tournaments were mostly in the 90s from what j here.

  • The most significant element of his fighting style alone is composure and his calm that shows that he is well ahead of his opponents which already subdues his without being hit already, he is definitely showing a skillset which is indeed of worthy of respect.

    • Idk man… I feel like that’s reading a lot in to an edited down reel of point karate fighting tournament in a gym. Like maybe he is good at “fighting” but this vid definitely doesn’t show that. In fact, I can’t find a single video of him actually fighting (where bad defense costs you more than a point, and where head strikes are fully legal). And not light sparring with some MMA guys (even Zuckerberg has those clips lol) or point karate matches (which are not remotely real fights). Guys got the same resume as our boy Steven Segal. Like, maybe he’s super skilled but he never documented it in any way. No Muy Thai fights, no boxing, no MMA, no kick boxing, no combat sambo. For a guy who claims to be obsessed with demonstrating his skills he never seems to have actually attempted to do that outside of the movies and photo ops with fighters. When he was in his physical prime 20 years ago the UFC, Pride, K-1 were all around and would have put on fights for him had he wanted to prove himself in the reel world. It’s too late now as he, despite the TRT, he is still an old man. So I guess we’ll never know if he is legit or just a point karate dancer like many of his contemporaries. Although, unlike Segal, Jean Claude and them, White at least has decent BJJ by most accounts.

    • It's pretty fucking dumb to be honest. If you only know one technique the guy with the thousand techniques would just use the direct counter to what you're trying to do. Imagine you could only throw jabs. I think that's the most generous one to choose in this situation because it doesn't need a setup or other techniques to be effective. Even then you could just do a low single leg takedown, or try to slip and counter hook. There is a key to every lock in martial arts.

  • Point sparring is a part of MOST legitimate Karate systems. It's an exercise in accuracy, speed and timing. Unfortunately it's not focused on much in the mma training. If you've never done any point sparring you A) probably haven't sparred in any Karate rooted training systems as this excercise is based on kumite. And B) please don't say kumite is just a full contact fight. That just means you watched bloodsport and have no true martial arts knowledge. Before you knock it, use it in your work outs. It's actually a great training method.

    @compressedcoal@compressedcoal7 жыл бұрын

    • Have you ever studied? Not a smart ass comment, just a question. Don't forget, "mma" is a sport as well guys. Don't get offended. That ground game is great in the ring but factually speaking, most fights in the street that go to the ground end up with someone getting stomped out. Just something to think about. (and I like ufc as much as the next guy)but unfortunately ufc fans can be a pretty close minded group, and that comes from training with guys until they learn something new and I really don't understand the line of thought. I'm speaking objectively but "mma" is not the be all of combat systems. It's just pieces of many and all should be respected and if you haven't learned that, you've learned nothing.

      @compressedcoal@compressedcoal7 жыл бұрын

    • Jason Washington mma is absolutely the pinnacle of learning how to fight. if youve got a better one, then show me. until then, ill stick to the elite fighters who have to be prepared for everything, can run 10 miles without sweating and train 3 hours a day under top trainers. who said i was offended? and from the street fights ive seen, if one guy goes to the ground, both of them do, and even if thats not the case, jiu jitsu really is your only chance of stopping someone from stomping your head in. well in my experience people whove done mma for more than 5-6 months are not close minded. and if some of them are snobby, its because, again, they learn it all and only care about what works in, what is essentially a no rules fight. if you can show me a points fighter in the ufc who has no other experience, then i might reconsider. wonderboy doesnt count hes a purple. i mean someone with no experience with anything else.

      @mr.orangeaide5260@mr.orangeaide52607 жыл бұрын
    • I never said using point sparring as the only training method firstly that would be no good for anyone. It's a great tool for speed and accuracy development. As you've seen in many a contest, quite often that first blow out a week placed strategic shot can end the conflict or lead the advantage which leads to that. And what I meant about MMA not being the pinnacle was miss read. Just because you study "MMA" which is not a system to begin with but a hybrid and to discount any particular system is to be a hippocrate. And you can discount someone who has trained for years in a single discipline. Combat wise, that could potentially be disasterous.

Most impressive part to me was how he neutralized their wrestling and boxing by taking the low stance. Guys couldn't figure out how to throw a single punch because his defense was impregnable. Pretty clear from this video that this is real fighting and was the ufc before the ufc. He should be given an honorary belt by the ufc because he clearly was the undisputed champion in his era back then with all these real fights.

Point sparring was practiced in Japan and Okinawa as early as the beginning of the 1900s. Bruce was a practitioner of wing chun, but only learned up to the seventh set on the wooden dummy. He later took various martial arts and created jkd. Mma and point fighting were both I existence before Bruce was even born.

But one time you can see his opponent just runned into a side kick and he wasn't even surprised. So this type of combat can fail too, but it's probably efficient tool in point karate, covering your side from kicks and only throwing side kicks. Safe and still wins. If a person were to perfect a single technique, regardless of the style, he could very well dominate someone who is good at several techniques. Also not every style is compatible with every person. Not saying one would beat the other because Lee is no longer with us. But to here from past Great martial artists who knew Lee and to say he was basically untouchable due to speed...and his skill basically unparalleled that says a little something. For White to say what he said is naive. For all we know Lee would clean his clock or vise versa..... We will never know.
