go to 1:30 to see the attack..
he is doing that because male chameleons usually hate seeing each other, even from a distance.
he was also stepping on his tale which made him freak out more.

    • there are actually very few animals that have the ability of "self awareness." dolphins, elephants, and humans, of course. anyone know of any others? it's waaay past my bedtime, and can't really recall any other animals, if any, mentioned in the documentary about this concept.

  • every animals deals with some level of stress, if seeing your own kind was so detrimental for a chameleon they would have died out a long time ago. having him puff his chest out a bit isn't going to kill it. that's probably the most cardio its ever going to have in its life. its not like he placed the mirror in the chameleon tank

    • Crimson King it's true. And handling your chameleon can shorten his life span. They are very anxious animals, even if they don't seem stressed when you're holding them, they are. I can tell that this chameleon was stressed before getting to the mirror, seeing himself is stressing him out. He doesn't know it's him
