So the antics are to psyche himself up and try to psyche Haney out if possible. It's kind of like guys who don't want to fight but they talk and act crazy to hopefully intimidate the other person and hype themselves up. Ryan is just in it for the money, but the actual motivation to be great is gone, so he's resorting to these tactics.

The funny thing is people believed Ryan gaining weight because of stupidity and no self-discipline but the fact that they are obviously doing it in purpose to gain advantage no matter if they pay for the penalty.
