This bushbuck is stuck between a rock and a hard place. It gets surrounded by wild dogs and chooses to get into a mud wallow with a hippo to try and evade the dogs' snapping jaws. 🫣 Tinged by Pieter van Wyk at @MalaMalaGameReserve . Anyone who knows anything about Wild Dogs knows that the hippo did that buck a massive favor.
for sure... i dont know which is worse, hyena or wild dog attacks
@@ReiherAllendinot even close, hyenas have a stronger bite force so more likely to kill their prey faster
@@anomaly3215idk. I ‘ll never forget the vid few years back where a wildebeest was eaten alive by a hyena from the anus up. It was still alive until the hyena ripped its heart out. And i’m pretty sure i remember correctly that the hyena was taking the seemingly at least gentlest of bites.

It’s impossible to know what’s going through the hippo’s head. They kill indiscriminately. There was a guy who saved a baby hippo and adopted it just to get killed by it years later.
god thats awful! they just insanely aggressive animals i guess that need to b avoided at all costs.
Probably just thinking it wishes those dogs would go away because they're annoying, then it realizes they're after the buck and just gives it to them so they leave his area alone
People raise their pet dogs and they can go on to kill you..50+ a year in the US and around the world, 25,000 people are killed by domestic dogs every year..
That’s what often happens to people who think wild animals/nature is a Disney movie.
for some reason they seem to be constantly on edge (although as adults they have little to fear from most animals) and they are not very bright...

If you noticed after chasing away the wild dogs, the hippo didn't attack the buck even though it was still in its territory, and that's one of the quickest ways to get a hippo to attack you, when you invade its space.. The situation was that the buck was just hanging around for too long and such disturbance the hippo couldn't endure anymore, because they really hate to be disturbed, but it was still willing to give the buck the chance to depart.. The longer the buck took to leave, was the more disturbance the wild dogs were causing, so the buck was not only causing the uproar of the wild dogs that was disturbing the hippo, but it was also invading the hippo's space, which caused such an outcome..
Do hippo have good eyesight? Maybe it thought buck was a dog?

You got some point there ❤
yeah and the longer the situation, the greater the chance one of them may have an eye for the little hippo. another possibility: I did see a grown male horse bite/kill a younger one when it got poisoned by a snake and could no longer get up after trying to help it up a few times.
This is like a thriller movie. Hippo chases the dogs away, making the buck think it's on his side, and at the end it turns out that Hippo was working for the dogs all along! 😜

Coughed on my doobie pretty good there. Lmao
Well they both have completely different methods wild dogs just wanna bite one piece at a time and hippos just kill 💀
The Hippo was like: So take it and get the fuck out of here...

In the slightly longer version of this video elsewhere on YT you can see that the buck was surrounded by dogs on both sides of the mud wallow so even if it wasn't crushed by the hippo it wouldn't have survived anyway. Incredible footage and just shows the power of the hippo.

Hippo saving the Buck from a world of pain. Hero.
Not true. That hippo is no hero. The buck was paralyzed from the hippo's bite but was still alive & feeling plenty of pain while it was eaten alive later by the wild dogs.
Hippos are just too dumb to truly process the situation as we would. Its logic behind this was probably: "This puddle is mine. There is a disturbance, I will remove it."
Why is that dumb?
Animals are a lot smarter then the credit with give them for, but they can also be stupid, savage phucks no different from humans
It's not dumb. It's called being territorial and has worked for thousands of years.

I never understand why people who can't handle this kind of thing go on these trips. Even the Lion King portrayed the brutality of nature. If you want to see the animals all friendly and peaceful, you need to go to the zoo, where they're all separated.
Yeah it's the cycle of life but for people to have empathy for an animal that is killed isn't a bad thing. It's nothing to do with "can't handle it" it's entirely just sympathy and empathy she witnessed the animals demise. She handled it just fine. I didn't hear her screaming out trying to make the dogs or hippo stop nor was she begging the others to go save the deer, she simply let out a breath of emotion and you think because of THAT she shouldn't have went on the trip? Seems you're the ridiculous one really, not her. Wow🙄
@@foxyandlucy4730So do you think she reacts the same when a cat kills a bird or rodent?
It never fails to amaze how people ALWAYS want to police other people's reactions/emotions in the comments section on nature videos lol. It's really not that serious to lecture people on the "brutality of nature." Just let people enjoy however they do.
@@foxyandlucy4730 " you think because of THAT she shouldn't have went on the trip?" yes.
@@Max_Power_007 Maybe she does. Pretty moronic of you to just ASSUME something and then use it as an actual point in a debate. Also the same people complaining about "brutality of nature" can't handle and get TRIGGERED over an old woman gasping after seeing an animal crushed to death and eaten alive. I hate women who cry loudly and make a fuss and pretend to be the only "nice" people watching. But a gasp is a totally fine and normal reaction by an old woman. And if you are TRIGGERED by it, then stop being an OLD WOMAN yourself.
That Buck must have built up a lot of bad Karma in it's life to go down in flames like this.

The hippo has taken the phrase "tough love" to another level.
We COULD think that the hippo killed the impala quickly because the hippopotamus realized that the impala was never going to escape. But that would would mean we assume that the hippo had advanced logic. Realistically, I think that in the first video clip, the hippopotamus reacted instinctively, but incorrectly, to preserve what it thought was it's young. In the second clip, we see the hippo destroying an annoyance.
It wasn’t really about helping out the dogs it just wanted the mud bath to itself! 😂
Annoyed because he wasted his time and effort to save the deer, and the deer didn't try to get away... You can only help save the ones who want to be saved, and it does not good to help someone who doesn't desire to live.

Honestly, this is one of the situations where it's a win for everyone involved. Just remember if you’re having a bad day think about this video and be glad you’re not this buck
This video is a really good example of how hippos and crocodiles have co-evolved together while sharing the same habitat, resulting in a cross-species language and mitigation of needs. When the antelope entered the "water", the hippo's first task was to drive away the wild dogs, as terrestrial predators aren't tolerated as the first priority. Next, the hippo does a gentle "tail nip" which tells the crocodile to move away because there's no room for them, except the antelope doesn't understand this and plays dead while the hippo postures its bulk at it. Then when the antelope stands thus no longer flat like a crocodile, the hippo recognizes that the predators want their prey, and so for its own safety gives them what they want, thus what belongs on land stays with the land, and what is of water stays in water. In this way, the crocodiles won't crowd around the hippo to get their share between both worlds, the hippo moderates between both domains. Yes, the hippo killed for the wild dogs, but more importantly it moved the carcas out of the water and away from itself. The hippo spoke and acted very clearly, there was no inexplicable behavior of this animal.
