    • It's because the manufacturers wanted 18 in wheels and they had to go to aluminum because of the weight and you couldn't do five lug nuts safely with aluminum wheels that big on a race car

      @johnhaas2523@johnhaas252327 күн бұрын
    • It was actually because NASCAR themselves wanted to swap to the 18” wheels for cosmetic reasons and in order to do that, they had to switch to a single lug system because 18” aluminum with 5 lugs wasn’t strong enough and 18” steel wheels were way too heavy. TLDR: NASCAR switched it solely for appearance reasons

  • I wish they would use a clear metric for timing pit stops. My opinion: start the clock when the vehicle first crosses into the box, and stop the clock when the car exits the box. I feel like this would offer much better clear problems that may have happened on pit road that may not have been caught in the moment. Slid through your box? Had to back up to get out of your box? Those kinds of things would show up then and be easier to seek out for analysis. You could also start when the first crew member touches the car, and stops when the last crew member releases the car.

  • pit stop timer starts when the jack posts on the right ride and stops when it drops the left side. that will only judge the crew though. if you time it from car entry into and out of the pit box it will be the combination of driver and pit crew. for a pit stop, in my opinion, its a combination of the whole team, so much goes into getting these cars/trucks serviced in as few seconds as possible. and thats my 2 cents

A train. They changed the track, Florida they changed the track. Now they put that grip stuff on the track. So the car is different but it races the same, competition wise. So far the big change I think is the tire. Tires need to change. My opinion.

  • If you think that the Penalties are too serious for protective equipment violations you just need to look at Romain Grosjean’s car fire in F1 back in 2020 at the Bahrain Grand Prix that year or what happened to Gerhard Berger at Imola during the 1989 San Marino Grand Prix. In both cases their cars caught fire and both drivers got burns even though they were wearing the proper fire resistant overalls and undergarments of the particular time period. So NASCAR has to take individuals wearing the proper protective equipment very seriously. And this is before we even get to the risks of head injuries for individuals who work on pit road. I mean just look at what happened at Homestead-Miami Speedway during the 2001 Pennzoil Freedom 400. You can hear commentator Benny Parsons yelling into his microphone whilst this was happening. Here is the video here; m.kzhead.info/sun/fNeQh6xwhpSPe58/bejne.html. It happens at the 1:55 mark. So as you can see this is no joke.

  • I feel the pit stop timer should start from when the car enters the alotted zones to drive through for pit box entry (so as to add driver aspect, but also make it a direct "scoring line" to start the clock), and end the timer should stop when the car leaves the alotted drive off space. It may very well add a second or 2 or tenths, thats fine. Its a difinitive scoring loop to start and stop from. You could also say, the moment the pit crew is allowed to jump over the wall, to the time the car is dropped off the jack, but allows room for error of pit crew jumping over too early, or peaving an issue with a wheel not being tight and driver needing to back up and/or jack the car up again

  • I normally agree with you on most things but pit stops have always been where races or won and lost yes they are much faster now, but have way more wheels failing off. Which is better a faster stop or tires staying on? I feel like they are trying to go so fast the jackman can’t possibly watch both tires and have those numbers. I get we had tires come off with the five lug system but this one lug system could be overhauled example many gun and lug issues and of course human error

    @mdrdavies21@mdrdavies2128 күн бұрын
    • Yeah if teams were able to use their own gun instead of a gun supplied by NASCAR which is junk like the car they probably wouldn't have as many problems and I'm sure there could be a better design for this one lug I don't see too many F1 cars Wheels fall off NASCAR happens all the time ruins a good race😢

  • I think fastest pit stop was supposed to be when the car stops in their pit box or when the crew jumps over the wall to service the car, to the dropping the clutch and accelerating out the pit box. IDK if that is a standard metric used though. IndyCar and F1 have a metric for pit stops, along with many other series.

    @kevinhazlett7303@kevinhazlett730328 күн бұрын
    • How is 1 lug absolute garbage in Cup when it works in literally every other major motorsports series in the world? Your answer is....the crews. These are literally the fastest pit stops being accomplished with 1 lug (that don't have 3 people focusing on one wheel). The crews are to blame for this. Its a speed vs safety deal. The teams car ensure the cars have all 4 tight but at yhe expense of hundreths of a second on pit road. Its a balance but its NOT the lug or design fault.

    • Doesn’t matter if it went 100 laps or 100’ if the lug came off its 100% on the changer of that corner. When properly seated and tightened no lug nut should come off whether it be 1 lug or 5 regardless of being on a racecar or a daily driver.
