Can you give us the recipe? - you add what quantity of Oxalic acid? - what's the liquid? vinegar? if so 5% or more? quantity? - then why pour in another container?? Thanks!

I really like how you store your tools. The shop just keeps getting better!!
Glad you like that! Much appreciated 👍 Take care!
@FFD_Restorations Where can I purchase OXALIC ACID?? I'm big into Gunsmithing and restoration so I come into these rust issues quite frequently?? Thakyoufor ay help you can offer!!
I would suggest you try evaporust since it is for guns. Oxalic acid is good but I would not use it on something valuable. Check out this article: www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/best-rust-remover/
one of the most instructive videos I've seen thank you
Wow, thanks!
👍
if you have the time to wait for rust removal I highly recommend using a 9:1 water and molasses mix. drop your steel in there for 2 weeks and it only eats the rust away and doesn't touch the good steel. it's the only method Ive found that doesn't eat away at the good steel. it will however eat away alloys and aluminium. when all your rust has flaked off get a bucket of water mixed with some rust inhibitor and wash off all the mollases and you will have perfectly clean steel, better than sandblasting or anything because it doesn't affect the good steel. then you can oil them and do whatever from there.
Thank you so much for sharing! I appreciate that very much! Never heard about it before. Just to be 100% sure, you mean on molasses mix for human consumption? This would be interesting to test out 👌
@@FFD_Restorations I don't know, I wouldn't consume it 😂 I buy the molasses you get for horse feed. If you mix it at 4:1 and let it ferment and then put it through a still you'll have rum 👍🏻
@@FFD_Restorations yes PLEASE 🙏 test this! I don't have easy access to things like acids and don't want to deal with them. But I have a few of my dad's old tools that I'd LOVE to find a doable way to derust them, something woman friendly 😝🤣
@@cececox6399 molasses is perfect for that kind of stuff, get a tub big enough, buy 5 - 10 litres of molasses and then mix it with water and stick your rusty objects in there for a couple weeks. Give it a wire brush when your clean the molasses off, but don't for the rust inhibitor!!!
Great job and footage, Sir 👍 well done ✅
Glad you enjoyed it, kindly appreciated!
this has honestly become on of my favorite channel. great stuff
Wow, thank you kindly ❤️
Excelente lo hace fuera de lo común. Otro nivel amigo 👍
😄👍
Reminds me of my Grandfather's basement workshop. What I would give for another day. Thanks for keeping these old ways alive, and keep the videos coming.
Thank you for the feedback, same here 😞 Will do, thanks for the support! Stay safe!
Use hydrolic oil, it's amazing. Very thin layer and it dries perfect.
Thanks for the tip!
My dad was a 5th generation engraver. I have boxes of letter stamps and engraving tools.
That is awesome 👍
Great work man. Great video. Well done.👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏
Glad you enjoyed it 😃👍
Cool video bud keep'em coming. Wishing you and yours the best. Stay safe and be well brother. 👊😎🤙🍻🇺🇲
Thanks again, will do! You too bud 👊😃
I've got a set of books that are reprints of shop tips from Popular Mechanics magazine between 1900-1927, and I'm amazed at the chemicals available to consumers at that time. It's not easy to source a lot of the ingredients. Amazing books if you can find them.
Very cool! Sounds awesome 👍
The set of books are called? Popular Mechanics Shop Tips?
👍
It's always oddly satisfying to watch these
Thanks
😊
I am confused too! He used Oxalic Acid and what?? Was that water? Then he pours it into another glass container, why? was there something in it? I liked the video but I still dont understand how he did it 🤔🥴
Yes, it was tap water
Amazing video good music nice parts restorations
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks!
I'm a graphic designer at a printing company. I love to see the days of old, how my job used to be done before technology! That's amazing! 💯👏
😀👍
Normal household vinegar will have them looking chrome plated after washing in 48 hours and won't harm non corroded steel. If high carbon steel it comes out black, so use white creme cleanser (or cheap white toothpaste) and steel wool for brilliant results, then slightly heat to remove moisture from the grain of the metal and season the tool while still warm with canola oil. Sounds like a cooking class but saves so much time and money (and wear rubber gloves, the vinegar melts and stains your fingernails)
👍
i knew it....there just had to be a way to prevent rust. where were you when I needed you....lol. better lste than never. awesome and thanks.
No worries, thank you for watching!
me encantan tus videos,herramientas y tu estilo❤,¡saludos!

Excellent
Thank you so much 😀
Metal type deserves great care.
so enjoy
🙏
Fantastic!👍😊👌
Thank you! 😃👍
Nice.
Thanks 👍
@@FFD_Restorations Truly appreciate your craft living here in the North Eastern United States. Jersey 🙂
Those are nice!
Cool, thanks Mike!
You know you can also do a type of seasoning like a cast iron skillet on your tools as well to keep rust from getting on there to let the oil actually penetrate into the metal
Yes, I did that in some of my previous videos. Nonetheless, I appreciate your suggestion and sharing! Thank you!
I remember those at the pattern shop in daily city at Ajax patterns and molds.
👍
Remembers me of my dad working in that "Minerva" machine... Good old times.
Awesome 👍

While Steel Stamps are not used that much anymore, they are nice to have and are fairly expensive. Young Bros. makes any size and type you'll want. 👍🇺🇸
Thanks 👍
👍
I like your conttente
Best suscribe ever!!
👌
Oxalic acid, also good for removing stains from wood. Magical stuff, really.
👍
New Sub! I like what I see!
Awesome! Thank you!
Cool short man really 🤙
Appreciate it!
Maravilhoso
😊👍
Oxalic acid and ammonia works much better. I use a concoction plus other ingredients for clock cleaning. It dissolves rust and oxidation on brass.
👍
In love
☺️
i love the clinks ❤❤❤❤❤❤ now what amr people feel it's that oh ooh oh feeling😅
🙂
Wouldn't it last longer, if you burn the oil on the tool? Heat the tool/work/piece hot, but just enough for oil to burn on the surface, then rub it with a rug, that has oil & tar mixture. The mixture will burn on surface, and acts in similar way as a paint would. Almost as you would be seasoning a cast iron pan.
👍
Yes, i'm subscribe!
🤗
❤
🤗
I use a Sharpie permanent marker. It totally works. How I found out was because I was in the military and would blacken shiny metal objects for combat. Upon doing so I noticed that they didn’t rust.
Cool, thanks for sharing ☺️

Cheap and best method
👍

Very nice, but I think they could use a phosphate coating after removing the rust and prior to the oil.
Great suggestion!
Mmm, ferrous pickles, my favourites!
😅👍
You can do the same thing with vinegar or citric acid. I did a whole car frame on my channel.😊
👍
Don't forget to wipe the oil excess 😊
👍
oxalic acid is the best to keep out of rust old paints on iron too
👍
good good
Thanks

What kind of liquids did you add to oxalic acid sir. And the branch of tree you've sliced to make as pallet.
Warm tap water
You could stick them in a oven after you oil them and season them the same way you would a cast iron skillet.
Thanks
👍
Cold blue works too..
👍
👍
Here in Pennsylvania, we need this stuff in our carwashes 😂😅😢
☺️
is that just water with the oxalic acid or something else? and roughly what ratios? Thanks
Yes, I was using tap water. Ratio 1:9 would be just fine. Be careful with oxalic acid since it can be quite dangerous!
👍
Your wife's gonna be pissed when she sees that table cloth😅
I got her approval on this one 😅👍

I used gear oil or engine oil for my tools works the same.

Oxcalid acid helps to removed the rust
👍
Reminds me of my Dentist, Dr Stich.
☺️
Is that distilled water you're cleaning with at the end?
Regular tap water
Wash the iron clean and dry , apply coconut oil, leave it for 24hrs or longer, you will never see rust again, until unless you feeling throwing away iron after abusing for years 😅.
👍
HCI 👍
😊
HCl (hydrochloric acid) would work, but increases the surface and causes even more rust in a short time
About 98 to 2005 i went to a house that was being renovated , and I saw 1000"s and 1000"s o old printing press brass letters and tools like this one. I thought immediately that it was a publicist workshop. The people fixing the house pay someone to remove all those metal to scrap it for money I was mad to see this go to garbage. Bye , my break is over
Hey William, thanks for sharing! That is unfortunately quite common outcome. People throw so much stuff during renovation, makes me sad. Thanks for watching, I appreciate that 🙂👍
Baking soda and vinegar also works
Yes it does!
🔥🔥🔥😁
☺️👍
👍
Dette er digg å se på ass!
☺️👍
Throughout the whole video in the back of my head I kept thinking hes gonna pour oil all over these... And then he did, and I was like oh my God the slippery tools.
Thanks for the comment. I wiped them all before storing them. So, there is gonna be just enough to prevent rust and still be safe to handle when punching 😉
