It is crazy to think that there are 2+ million more soldiers on that field than my country Finland has population...
@Ville Jokela. Let's see 10,000 modern Finnish soldiers vs 1 million Spartans or Romans.
Don’t worry Finland, we will protect you. Love, America
331 million -America
@@RMFCfan137 Even more crazy to think the USSR lost 20 million soldiers during WW2. This really puts it into perspective.
My country America has 100 million
Hey Daley! Just letting you know we added some new content last night to UEBS2. We added 3 new units(2 new heroes and a giant troll), as well as the infamous Unit Customizer is now open, check it out!
Awesome thanks for letting me know :D
Unit creator? Like in tabs?
@@yigaboii2254 We have never played TABS here. UEBS1 has a unit creator and it's the new version for the sequel.
@@yigaboii2254 it’s more or less kind of like that but you can make whatever almost like modding. Also I would love some more units per era I know you guys are already trying your hardest and this game is crazy but yeah I would love some American soldiers and German soldiers, as well as like Soviet soldiers so yeah that would be very cool
Will UEBS2 have a custom workshop like the first game?
Daley's battles from now on are just gonna be in the millions
can't expect this to end well
Hey Daley, I believe I saw the developers say in another video that there is a bug with large armies right now that cause them to not run well. You want to have the groups at about 1 million max each. If you split up each army into four groups of 1 million each, it should help with the frame rate according to what I've heard.
You're close. Having 8 armies with an even amount is the most ideal for performance. This will likely be handled internally in a later update, so eventually the user won't need to worry about this.
Glad I discovered your channel, a ton of fun. That said Iron age Spartans, whom i love, would have been throttled by Roman age Repubic\Empire forces. Better weapons, armor and shields. More advanced tactics as the Spartans fought small scale wars while the Romans led tens of thousands. Romans had siege and artillery weapons along with cavalry, the Spartans only had foot soldiers and a few Perioeci sling men So much more. A fairly weak Roman army without professional soldiers early on defeated the Aechean League and Sparta at Gythium
Yep, Spartans were fantastic individual warriors, while the Romans made ARMIES. Formations, combined arms, and siege craft were their fortes
@@gaiusmarius4209 Indeed although Spartans, and Greeks/Macedonians fighting was also contingent upon fighting as a group, ie the Phalanx. But I think what you are saying is on a larger scale beyond a few hundred guys. Romans were the first real masters of being able to work countless unit types and moving pieces synchronized together like a well oiled machine
Also there was about 400 to 500 years difference between when Sparta and Rome were at their respected peaks
@@88006 Indeed, Iron Age vs Roman Age. The only question is when was Romes "peak" but even if we go to the very beginning of the Empire with Augustus and Germanicus, that is about 500 years from the Peleponessian War when arguably Sparta was at their most powerful. For reference if modern military forces with high powered rifles, jets, tanks etc fought the Spanish or English from 500 years ago they would be using pikes, swords and primitive lit fused cannons and Arquebus.
@@thegadflygang5381 Since technology is speeding up it would be more like a modern army vs WW1 or WW2 army. The Romans still used swords, spears, shields and armor as the Spartans did, albeit more advanced and varied.
Daley idea! One Side: 10k Redcoats backing up 50k calvery with 2000 catapults Other Side: 50k knights with 10k zombies and 15k archers
Tune in everyday to see a massive UEBS 2 battle with daley being extremely excited. Keep up the good work!
Bruh this is a massacre.
Today is my birthday and im celebrating it by watching some of my favorite youtubers! Can't wait to watch the new vid!
9:57 Ah yes, a body of piles.
Maybe 250k spartans vs. 1,000,000 romans next time, or 1M Spartans vs. 4M Romans
it was.. very cool tho
In real life the Roman's would have dominated realistically
Well not really the spartans did have better training and better moral
@@user-hv3xx1gu1p spears aren't much use in a tight melee like that compared to the Gladius And the Roman shields make them hard to break through.
@@user-hv3xx1gu1p also I imagine being a part of the legion would give you pretty high moral Spartans hardly ever stood and fought in many battles that are recorded they tended to avoid them but even when they would lose the Legions would do their damndest to fight
@@desertranger1095 first of all the spartans did have swords and second the way spartans did use spears is that the first line would hold and the second would stab with the spears
@@desertranger1095 spartans never avoided a fight they were raised to fight even their mothers told them it is better to die in the fight than come back defeated
Interesting turn out, i strongly believe that in reality if these two had met, each at the height of their power, Rome would win. They took the greeks strategies and made them better in every way. Rome was the ultimate war fighting machine, feared by the world, for a reason
4,000,000 Spartans would trample Rome. Roman soldiers were good, not that good though. In real life, yes, Rome would’ve won because Sparta didn’t have many soldiers. Rome did.
@@Tacoman542 so they dominate europe for so long because they've not so good. Ok :)
@@Tacoman542 Depends. Technology is a big help. Romans had better armor, weapons, and artillery. They also were overall more effective as an army, since Spartiates didn't really fight in massive numbers like the Romans did, with more effective battle tactics that incorporated their artillery and weapons effectively. Spartiates also didn't use bows and arrows, so Roman army has the advantage of range and since Spartiate armor doesn't protect the chest, that is gonna be very useful. Romans also have less cumbersome equipment, allowing them to move around the battlefield, whereas the Spartiates have heavy and cumbersome equipment, which could make it hard for them to take the offensive against the much more agile Roman army. More and better training doesn't always mean a stronger or better army. There is almost a 600 year difference between the height of Sparta and the height of Rome.
both sides were extremely well trained. for me i am a fan of both armies but the spartens has to be my favourite. i love this stuff you guys put together. great stuff.
I don't know much about the Spartans but the Roman soldiers were a volunteer unit that paid its soldiers better than civilian jobs. For the most part they were a proud group and discipline was very high. They marched many miles ever day caring more weight than modern units. They would build build a defensive parameter and every night. These guys were tough as it gets. But it was the discipline and tactics that made them such a dominant force. Of course not all the Roman Generals were equal in battle.
Spartans were literally trained for war starting at 7 years old
Roman legionnaires were the best soldiers of the ancient time. Unstoppable war machine. Spartans are mostly overrated and lost battles to Persians, Athenians, Macedonians and ultimately Romans easily defeated them in 170 BC. So this battle is crap.
The only reason they lost some wars and power was because Sparta was running out of real Spartans and many outsiders become "spartan" citizens @adolphbismark4331
Sparta was a warrior state ,that was life there, discipline and blood was normal until you die. Romans were just wanna be soldiers for money as you said
I love these medieval battles, keep up the good work!
This isn’t a medieval battle, the Greeks and romans fought over a 1000 years before medieval times
@@kiely4561 no one asked
@@scoobus5419 salty and liked his own comment lol, did I hit a sore nerve or something pal?, I was merely correcting you on your inaccuracy, no need to get your little panties all bunched up.
Bro he just corrected you, dont get mad@scoobus5419
I really wish the Romans and Spartans were more closely matched in terms of ability, but really the bias falls a little bit on the Spartan side which is then amplified with numbers. The Spartans run faster than the Romans, their shields are stronger, their attacks do more damage, and they have farther reach than the Romans. I think the reason why this bothers me so much is that this game is just simulating a war of individuals in army numbers. Historically a Greek hoplite could and did outclass a Roman legionary, but it's the Roman manipular legion that was superior to the Greek phalanx that was the deciding factor, and why Rome won out in Greece historically.
I'm going to have to call shennigans on your claim that that Greek hoplites were individually superior to Roman legionaries. Greek hoplites were a citzen milita called up when needed and then disbanded afterwards. They did not receive military training as mentioned by Xenophon, a very experienced Greek mercenary and historian. Plus the *aspis,* the hoplite shield was a bad shield for individual fighting. Great for formation fighting, but terrible for a one-on-one. A Roman legionary on the other hand was a professional soldier with equipment and training provided by the state. As a professional soldier he didn't have to split his time between his trade and his role as a soldier meaning the average legionary was more disciplined and experienced than his hoplite counterpart. Finally the legionary had ranged options and a shield better suited to one on one fighting. (The *scutum* had a single central vertical grip similar to later norse/saxon round shields, which made it easier to defend with.) Rome had quite possibly the best army in the ancient world for a damn good reason.
The Spartans were professional soilders basically trained from birth. Nothing came close in the ancient world not even the romans. The romans real advantage would have been numbers. Sparta was just one city state and the rest of Greece didn't field professional armies. If the forces were equal I'd always give it to the Spartans. I highly doubt that the forces would ever be equal but on a soilder to soilder basis the Spartans were just better and probably also on a unit to unit basis. Training from the time you are 7 years old to do just one thing and only one thing has to give you an advantage. LOL.
@@edwardhardwick2180 you're nit-picking because I went from saying "Spartan hoplite" to "Greek hoplite" but it wasn't just the Spartans - they're simply the best example of a more Peloponnesian phenomenon. The Hellenes and the northern Dorians differed from the southern Dorians in the Peloponnese by using irregular citizen-soldiers as their armed forces, while the Peloponnesian city-states had some form of regular force consistently active - whether or not they were Spartan, their allies, or their enemies at that immediate moment.
Count yourself lucky. I'm Persian and look how they rate our armies smh. It's a bit perturbing.
@@Initium1000 Operation Human Wave is usually a success. And you guys taught the Russians something so that bears mentioning. Two thumbs up mate, sorry pop culture is so mean to y'all.
That temple at the top of the mountain looks so sick.
Would be cool if you could do a mountain defense on this map!
Great video keep up the good work
Nice video! I really like this map.
I'm really loving uebs2 keep up the good work Daley
Hey Daley. I was just wondering about if it would be possible to add a bit more diversity to the armies like different types of cavalry/infantry such as spearmen, swordsmen and bowmen? I would love to see a battle of two gigantic armies and how the AI would behave on such a large scale having more assets (Hopefully without melting your PC). Love your videos Daley, your commentary is astounding!
he could have up to a million of each troop type on both sides with his pc being perfectly fine lol.
hope you can succeed in reaching 500k by the end of the year :) want more of this
You should do some more Spartan simulations. Make 100,000 Spartans on defense and 300 elite Spartans on attack And just go ham on some Persians. I enjoy when the Spartans defend inner city locations.
I can't wait!!! I'ma go back to play UEBS while I wait. :D
Crazy to think Daley's just casually just running a simulation with almost twice the population of my country in it lol :P
historically, the maxing of numbers here would super buff the spartan/hopilite side. the downfall of the phalanx was its lack of flexibility or its rigidity/need to stay in formation. romans won victories against the greeks by getting them out of formation. perhaps smaller numbers might yield a more tactical battle, since the near infinite numbers mean the phalanx is super hard to ever flank.
Yeah that was the reason why sparta lose to the romans
this battle is awesome bro
Four Million dudes all shouting, "This is SPARTA!!!"
Give Thanks Men! To Leonidas, and the Brave 300! TO VICTORY!!!
can you make 2m Spartan's vs 4m roman and 2m romn defending
Awesome battle! I could stand to too watch many more of these. Although I think realistically Rome would have won with their formations and tactics. But hey, who knows how this game evolves.
The Roman's were infantry soldiers, the Spartans were special forces! it would be like sending a normal infantry unit against the SAS! a fair way would be to reduce the numbers of the specialist unit. imagine if you sent 4 mil normal soldiers, against 4 mil special forces. it would probably be 10 to 1, not 3 to 1 kill ratio!
i love your vids and your content
Your my fav KZheadr keep making more awesome Star Wars content
Mountain war in the high passes, awesome ! May have to snag this game. Looks better than an ant farm.
okay, but the Roman soldiers aren't using the formations that made them so dominate in real life conquest. Of they actually coordinated their spears and shields as they were known for the Spartans would have not chance.
5:21 the traveler has descend upon the spartans
What an amazing battle 🤩🤩👍
Do a final stand on that mountain top, like have someone defend a bunch of the pathways up and see if they can hold it
the fact that this man is barely lagging means is computer is an absolute BEAST
I find multiple teams/armies/types of combatants much more interesting as the battle can ebb and flow depending on who is actually fighting who at any moment. With one on one after a minute or two who’s going to win is obvious.
The Spartans had a massive advantage because when on the middle I noticed they used spears that have more range to damage the Roman’s and the Roman’s only had short swords
I'm thinking Romans win, pulling for the Spartans though.
This was pretty spectacular! What if we tried the same numbers, but Centurians and Footmen? And instead of two gigantic mobs, the armies were broken up into smaller tactical units? Like 500K for the Romans and 250K for the Footmen?
One thing I dislike with UEBS is that there aren't really any formations or tactics at play. It's just line up and charge. It'd be cool if you could get the Spartans to charge and fight in proper phalanx formations, or the Romans in their "checkerboard formation". This could really change the battle, because the checkerboard formation gave Rome greater manoeuvrability than the phalanx, which helped them conquer Greece in like the 200s BC or so.
In UEBS2 the have added a new rts factor so you can create your own formations
@@fieldfighter6952 You're correct. To add that that, when ordering units they do sorta attempt to create a line formation on the destination of their order, we have more work to do on this though. Watch the video we did on RTS mode, there is more info.
Ngl, I totally want to see a Persian Roman coalition against the proud Spartans!
with that many units the youtube algorithm is dying trying to figure out something
If it’s just 1 type vs 1 type, the equilibrium of k/d ratio remains consistent throughout the battle. Roughly 1 spartan = 3 3 Romans. Add some variety to mix up the variables.
I think catapults Arches and other early types of artillery is exactly what you are looking for.
8:34 - my prediction based on what i saw so far: there is a vood chance that Spartans will win. Unit comparison: roman shields cover more of the body and they have iron armor, their strength. Spartans have heavy round bronze shields that don't quite cover as much but they are equipped with spears, which outrange the roman gladius swords (spartan strength). I think the spear is the tie-breaker though romans should be able to hit Spartans in the unprotected parts of bodies while Spartans are on the high ground. I don't know if Spartans are equipped with bronze armors like historically but i guess that detail can be shared by the youtuber making the video
I assumed the Romans armor would come into play and give them the advantage.
For what's it worth. This outcome isn't difficult to understand. The classic Roman Army was known for it's organization and teamwork model. Not for its man on man engagement. The Romans would have applied their long range weapons first before loosening their arrows and pilums. Then drawing their gladius short sword and daggers. Fighting in units the Romans would have had their front ranks being relieved by a fresh soldier and the relieved soldier going to the back to get rest, water and medical treatment. The Romans would be employing cavalry into the flanks and behind the Spartans rather than straight melee engagement. We may have had a different outcome.
I think and want the spartans to win This is the first of ur videos I've seen, this is really way cooler than I initially thought it could be
You should do king of the hill on that map. Start each massive army off the mountain and make them all try to climb to the top of the mountain.
Daily has lost it we gave him to much power he’s made 8million people fight without choose he is a Sith Lord
daley: nice:) PC: help
What it you used that mountain as a defensive position like playing king of the hill
Part of the Sparta culture
Spartans learnt from master kenobi
what GPU do you have and what settings are you running? I have a 2080ti and running the game on medium causes my game to freeze before i even enter the millions of soldiers. Does map and placement affect it as well? (in cities/buildings vs open fields).
Hey daley if you want to move units click on the two swords they will fight and if you did not click that two swords they are just gonna stand and die!
I can't believe you thought this could be anything but a Spartan domination
Man the que times for this battle must be insane for the people in the back.
“I do want to see this body of piles though”
Hey daily tactics when are you going to do a Lego Star Wars clone army video for 2022?
I wasn't expecting siege weapons or anything, but it would be nice if the computer took into account the battle formations and tactics of both respective armies, instead of just having them slam into each other like Barbarians 😆.
Funny because after watching the romans vs us army and after spartans vs persians i was like hmm why not
Okay that's way more than i thought 8 million people would look like Daley: let's check the other side of the mountain Wha... there's more!?😳
Bro the games have to put each armies tactics in the battles for it to give close to real life results
SO GOOD
Born of winter.
The last time Rome besieged Sparta, the Spartans didn't stood much of a chance. Except for the Italian. They are why Rome left. They don't count.
SPARTA 🗡️
You said ,"a body of piles." 9:55
Would have loved to see the flanking maneuver completed with the time lapse at the end rather than the middle of the field. But still really enjoy the videos
Now you need to do the Spartans versus the Persians that is pretty much a equal battle
Where do I got to buy and download UEBS 2 I have number 1 but want a trusted download source
Leonidas would be proud. 😂
I think this would make my PC run away screaming.
If you combine your PC with combining another PC that is combined to another PC, it should be better to combine Another PC which is combined to another PC that is combined to another PC, so you would get something at least.
Go Sparta!!!
You should do a Troy v Greece battle with Achilles and Hector as heroes
Spartan. 🤜🏾
Re-do the spartan vs persian fight. This time make the map a little flatter. The water killed 50k Spartans in that other battle. That amount might've won them the battle. Also have them on free roam
Hey dude i was watching some of your old videos and i think you should remake a 1 million clone troopers vs a 1 million battle droids when you can put mods . In addition to putting others mods with characters from warhammer 40000 , lord of the rings , game of thrones , marvel , dc and others franchises .
Let's go Spartans
Can you add archers to one of the side
Two of the greatest military forces ever here. In most cases I think the military discipline and tactics of the Romans would win though.
Macedonia did the Spartan way better even conquered them then Rome conquered both.
I want the Roman’s to win but I think the Spartans will win. Can’t wait For the next ultimate epic battle simulator episode
This man is growing yesterday he had 430k subs now he has 3 thousand more
Spartans!
Not bad tactic from the Roman
Lets goo spartans
Great video as always Daley. I think you ran the time laps too long. I wanna actually liked more of the updates instead of that 1 angle
Nice vid
Imagine A mountain defense though....
What is this program and where can I buy it!!?
My god the mountain is filled blood these are the 4 million
That’s Epic
Spartans OP. Calling their win.
