  • Ordered one of those bushcraft augers, ( different brand ). Well made and nice to look at but it would only drill into soft rotted wood. Problem turned out to be the final sharpening was done wrong so I am in the process of resharpening it . Looking forward to making some useful things with it.

    • I use old dryer lint soaked in napalm that I keep in an altoids canister. It lights in 2 strikes from a flint and steel while in pouring rain. Light it outside of the log and use some of the sawdust you just made as a combo. Honestly sawdust itself would probably work.

    • Or if you didn't grab stuff from home, any thin shavings will work. Sap, in particular, is great. Just make sure to get dried stuff that's already there, don't cut into any trees.

  • On a stump there is no guarantee the fire could be completely put out with the amount of water you would be carrying on your walk in the woods. Better off to do that on a log section. Like a mini Swedish torch.
