Have you ever noticed that every pilot and flight staff uses the exact same carry-on?
Okay, maybe not every pilot, but enough to where you can’t stop noticing it once you start paying attention
So i found out what they use the only way i knew how: i asked
And they all said a brand you’ve probably never heard of: LuggageWorks
Thanks for watching! I'm a one-man team, so a Like and a Subscribe will always mean a ton to me.
Wow, this vid blew up! Was a year in the works so it means a lot. Answering some common questions below: 1. It’s the LW Stealth 22” 2. As I say in the video, I do *not* recommend people buy this unless you're a pilot, flight crew, or daily traveler. 👉 link to a carry-on I *do* recommend: type jo.my/carryon into your web browser 3. No, this isn’t an ad. I bought this myself in March 2022 after doing my own research, I’ve had no contact w/ LW or any of their affiliates, and am not and have not received compensated in any way. They never even replied to my emails when i reached out for comment 😭 My account in general is impressively unprofitable since I haven't accepted a collab in about 18 months, but being able to say what I want, when I want, however I want is priceless to me. 4. No, I don't own this own company nor do I do any dropshipping at all. Neither of them appeal to me and both of those professions make more money than what I do. Also I wasn't born yet when LW was founded. 5. I'm a one-man team, so if you liked this video, every 'LIKE' and SUBSCRIBE will always mean a ton to me. 💙
I was a flight attendant and my boyfriend is a captain. The luggage they use is good, but Briggs and Riley is better. Boyfriend switched over 2 years ago and swears by them. No J hook but they do have a strap that does the same thing. A lot more light weight and there is a warranty so you can have it fixed for free! Also, interestingly enough but luggage works wasn’t the standard issue for my company. It was travel pro (don’t buy lmao) but literally all the pilots knew those bags were trash and would buy luggage works.
This video was so informative and well done with the clear pros and cons of the luggage. Thanks for giving us a real honest and balanced review; and keep up the good work!

I’ve had mine for about 13 years as a pilot using it roughly 4 days a week. It’s a tank and has taken a beating. Dragged through snow to the bus stop in chicago for a decade, had to have the bottom cast rebuilt twice because sidewalk salt/chemicals caused the wheel axles to eventually fuse to the wheel bearings to the point where they weren’t removable. The side rails have bowed over years as most do. Black paint is chipping away from the metal back plate and rails from slamming it up stairs. 3 years of commuting to various cities as well. At the regionals it was gate checked for every deadhead and was at the mercy of rampers where I would occasionally lose zippers or clips. It looks worn and I regularly get an “omg how long have you had that bag” reaction from other aviation employees and co workers but considering I’ve been living out of it for over a decade and still on my new hire bag shows how impressive of a bag it is. Most FAs use travelpro, getting out of crew vans I’ve seen numerous FAs with broken bag handles, struggling to extend or retract them or one of the handle rails is completely gone. They just seem like cheap plastic bags but probably more sturdy than your casual passenger bag but can’t hold a candle to the durability of LW. If I used a regular travel bag I have no doubt I’d be on at least my 5th bag by now, this thing is solid.
Would you recommend to a regular person or just for pilots?
@@alonsomendoza1300I would say it depends. If you travel a lot, I do mean A LOT! Then LW or Strong Bags (the brand I use…also designed by a pilot) might be the way to go. I’m a flight attendant and got tired of replacing my travelpro every 2 years.
In a lot of countries this is too heavy for carry on, the limit is usually 7 kgs. This bag comes to 6.8kgs 😂 So pilots obviously don’t have the same weight limits as passengers.
Mmqqn
I was like.. what’s the Grateful Dead have to do with any of this?
Would baggage handler potentially treat it better?
No because the baggage handler would know immediately that it isn't the pilot's luggage because pilot's luggage is not going in the cargo hold with the passenger's luggage. They keep their luggage in their crew compartments. Reason you never see pilots or crew waiting with the passengers at the luggage area after a flight.🤣
@@Jayjay-ef2gtthey may perceive it as a pilot’ that’s just a passenger today
@@Jayjay-ef2gt pilots fly as a passenger too.. ALL THE TIME.... they are flown to there they are needed
@@Jayjay-ef2gtou’re kinda right but it depends on the aircraft. Most domestic US flights are in a 737, they don’t have crew compartments We load crew bags with claim at gates. So they are the first to come off the plane along with any pets or mobility aids like wheelchairs. They usually always go in pit 1 forward cargo pits The only thing that separates it’s from passengers bags is a cargo net. You couldn’t pass off a passenger bag as crew bag as crew bags have special tags And it won’t get treated better. Sorting belts use hundreds of pounds of pressure to sort bags in the piers. It needs that much force cause everyone has heavy bags upwards of 100lbs. That’s how most bags get damaged. People buy plastic luggage and it breaks on the sorting belts. I’ve even seen people loads their electronics on these cheap plastic luggage and by the time it gets to piers from ticket counter the wheels are already snapped off and there’s a big crack on the side

“luggageworks, our luggage works” - their slogan, probably
Husband is a pilot and yes, he uses Luggage Works. He never checks his bags but the hold up for YEARS!
Flight attendant here! We use luggage works and Travel Pro for a few additional reasons as well. 1. Most airlines require us to have solid black luggage, and some require no hard shell suitcases with 4 wheels. Also, when we work, we don't check our bags into cargo, they go in the cabin in the overhead bins. The only time we might have to gate check our bags is if we are "deadheading" which is basically us flying as a passenger to reposition for our next working flight. 2. The reason we don't use hard shell suitcases with 4 wheels is because some planes (like the CRJ 200) have overhead bins that are too small for those. 3. Some airlines give us allotment for new uniform pieces/bags. So usually the lugagge brands are LW or Travelpro. 4. And lastly, we use LW and Travelpro because they have a built in clip at the top to connect the J hook which most other brands do not have. We need these J hooks to hold those additional smaller bags aka (crew coolers) which usually hold our next 4-5 day's worth of food. Hope that helps explain a bit more! And yes, most pilots use the metal frame ones in the video and most flight attendants use the Travelpro rollaboard. If you use either, flight crew will probably think you're one of us haha. They are both good brands, they may be expensive but they are pretty durable so it's worth it.
I'm a CRJ pilot and I use a hard shell 4-wheeled suitcase ("Away" brand). There's no rule against it. The only rule is "flight crew's luggage must be black." Far lighter than a LW case, and it does fit in the CRJ-200 overhead!
I have a Travel Pro. That thing is amazing and hasn’t failed me yet
I'm a big fan of Travel Pro!
AA pilot suggested TravelPro. ❤
I’m sorry, the next 4-5 days worth of food!? They don’t feed you despite taking you away from home!?
keep in mind airline employees have different needs than travellers. They are frequent users but generally aren't going long distances, and the inset wheels are durable and use less room. But if you're going long distances all at once the drag-behind kind tend to hurt your arm after a while whereas spinners aren't as durable but are much more comfortable because you can push it ahead of you.
Yas! My moms a flight attendant and when I would grab her bag my should would quite literally be ripped from the socket. 😂
and dragging the two-wheeled carry on sized bags is a nightmare since the handles dont extend far enough. always getting whipped around and all im doing is walking with it.
The J hook design makes it so that the second, smaller bag in the back makes the handle feel weightless. I also often push mine ahead of me
@@Abra089 this is the correct answer. I’ve had mine since being hired at my first Airline in 2019 and it’s still going strong. Virtually weightless and I show people all the time that I can pull it usually with just a finger strength.
Spinners are great to wa li through an airport but shit for walking around European cities.
“You’ll be mistaken as a pilot” I see this as an absolute win
man started fighting to talk over himself toward the end of the video that shits terrifying
as a baggage handler, I love and hate these things. hate because of the weight and the fact they only have two wheels to roll around on so you can't move them completely upright like 95 percent of the other luggage. but also love because these are so... square and easy to stack while gripping whatever surface they are in contact with, less sliding around. but yea, these things r durable as hell, and if you have one you're almost guaranteed to have it loaded over other luggage because as he said, virtually only pilots carry these, so they are given priority if there is a capacity limit in the cargo bin.
That is amazing! im going to buy one just to not have my bag squished anymore😂 and with that bag it wouldn’t even matter hahah
I used to be a ramper, now I'm a lead, but those things were the bane of my existence. Sitting in the front pit waiting for claims to throw in pit 1, they hand you that and you swing it up onto your legs, only to get a hard 90° sheet of metal slam into your shin. Good times....
Hate because you can't throw it as far in an attempt to damage everything inside and outside
Okay guys, here's the plan: Buy Luggageworks' stuff.
Thank you for your work, Ethan. From what I heard, being a baggage handler is hard work for little pay and recognition. I hope you know as a passenger I am grateful you work so hard to move my stuff from one place to the other so I can go on vacation/travel.
After getting a luggage set that rolls on 4 wheels, I refuse to go back to 2 wheeled luggage.
Wait till you try those roll straight facilitating wheels bytravel pro . It’s even more lighter to push forward.
@@mrc79 are they heavy and long lasting?
Two wheels are nice on cobblestones and older infrastructure that isn't wheelchair accessible and nice and flat. If your location to location is modern then 4 wheel is the way to go.
2 wheels are superior for actually covering distance and rougher terrain. 2 wheel setups have a larger diameter and roll better.
@@Flu_Tang_Clan good thing you can always just lift it up and run it on two wheels

I think decent is an understatement
I bought a Travelpro 30 yrs ago because that's what flight attendants use and it's still going strong.
Here are the four reasons many of the pilots I work with use either a Briggs & Riley, a StrongBags, or a TravelPro Crew5 instead of the LuggageWorks bag: 1. LW bags weigh twice as much as the other options 2. LW bags cost far more than the other options (except Briggs & Riley, which costs even more than LW!) 3. B&R, StrongBags, and TravelPro are all very durable, and have good warranty & repair options. 4. B&R and TravelPro come in a 4 wheeled version, which is very handy and which some of us prefer.

The biggest issue with those bags are that they are heavy as hell so it cuts into your carrying capacity (which can be an issue as a passenger) and they aren't flexible if you need to squeeze them into tight spaces. Many airlines will not issue these but might compensate pilots if they do. Source- I'm former flight crew
Yup. I was issued a LuggageWorks. Opted for the steel frame. It isn’t as large as what my non airline friends carry, but I can fit a weeks worth of gear in it. The briefcase that hooks into the J hook is a must. It fits perfectly next to my seat and holds plenty of snacks, electronics, and other creature comforts. The durability is what really sells it. The average consumer isn’t going to be on HUNDREDS of flights per year. With that much use, you need something that can be hit by a truck… Because it might happen. Even with all the durability, we get new ones every 4 years. The zipper came off my rear pouch. The ID holder is ripped off. Can’t wait for my new one in a few months. That being said, it still rolls beautifully and none of my stuff has been damaged inside it. Added perk is that no passengers ever mistake your bag for theirs. PS: I definitely know the guy with the blue carabiner clip
The LW handle is so annoying. I have to fix the teeth in mine every 8 or so uses because the metal handle wears down the metal teeth that lock the handle. I haven't tried strongbags. I'm considering switching to the LW Auroa for this reason. Flight attendants almost exclusively use travel pro. The only FAs using LW bags are ones that date pilots.
Most of the pilots and flight staff I’ve observed in Canada use Travelpro bags.

In Europe, crews take only their cabin bags with them, the suitcases are dropped at the aircraft before boarding and put in the crew hold, after landing down route the crew suitcases are handled by the station and is waiting for the crew at baggage belt. Very convenient.

i would be also if i had to move thousands of luggage everyday lol i wouldnt be softly moving and putting down each one, that will take so much time 😂
Cause they're heavy, gotta use that momentum
@@heyimhy bruh that guy in the video slammed the luggage down w so much force 😭 there’s no way that’s for efficiency that man had a vendetta! He lifted it above his head & everything!
They make minimum wage why the fuck would they care
@@itsnoterica lol ah yea i guess he was mad 🤭
The way these commercials targeting us😂
My dad is an airline pilot and he uses a standard-issue bag as well. One time I was traveling with him and a flight attendant accidentally took his bag thinking it was hers. We had to chase her down to get it back lol
My father has that luggage because he’s a pilot and I’ve used it, hitting myself many times and I’ve been confused for a pilot many times too. Soooo yes what he says in the video is true but it’s a great luggage. (If you hit yourself by accident with this you’ll feel it for quite a long time, because it’s like a metal box with wheels)
I am a aircraft mechanic and these things are super useful. I got ot off my pilot store. If you know anyone who is rough on items this is amazing
Tbh they should put some kind of universal label on these bags to know it's the captains. I once accidentally took the captain's luggage when we were exiting the plane cause I thought it was ours🤣.
That's pretty amazing to know... Even I would consider buying that for my self !!
Actually, the truth is most pilots and crews have used Travel Pro for about the last 40 years. Travel Pro was made and designed by a former Northwest Airlines pilot. Made in the U.S.A. Mine is thirty years old and still like new.
I can name at least 6 US airlines off the top of my head that issue LuggageWorks, not including the one I work for.
I've had my military duffel bag for over twenty years and still working fine!
wouldn’t mind being mistaken for a pilot tbh
Oh no I would never want to be mistaken for a pilot. One the coolest professions
Best product promotion I have seen till now 😂
Excuse me sir, why do you hate my luggage?
