I've been in IT for over 30yrs as a Network engineer, Security etc... Today I have my own business and I also fix Hardware & Software. I recently started working on PCB's. I've watch hundreds of videos from many different channels but I must say, that none I've seen, compare to your work. I luv your OCD when it comes to your work ethic and style. I find your videos very "satisfying" as some people enjoy watching clips that relax them, ergo "satisfying" and I never thought I'd find watching PCB repairs, relaxing. In a short span of time, I have learnt so much from you, your experiences, your own development and I'm often excited to go try your methods asap. I really appreciate your time and efforts and this is why I've taken the time to let you know. I think your work is meticulous and even artistic at times. Nice video showing a way to repair such a problem. I do remember when I was repairing black boxes and some of those circuit boards came in with holes burnt complete through two sided boards. We used epoxy to repair the burnt out board and then applied new traces from a PC board repair kits to repopulate the runs that were missing. Amazing what you can do with circuit boards to keep them working when you can't replace them... Thumbs Up!

Hi, I have been watching your videos to help me to solder a chip onto a board. I started watching your videos when I realised that some of the pads are missing from the board and to be honest, I just don't have the skill nor confidence to do what you do and as it would be next to impossible to get a replacement board, I'm scared I'll end up damaging the board more than just a few missing pads. Do you hire out your skills for people like me where I send you the board and the chip to repair the missing pads and solder on the new chip? The chip is a motor control chip on a motor board for an old telescope. At the very least, could I send you pictures of the board ? You are obviously a very skilled professional.

I have a job that requires this technique. Only issue is it is a tiny micro switch the size of a matchhead, and all of the traces have been entirely ripped off. I will need to be more patient than usual. I had been floundering on selection of wire, being used to dealing with much larger components. Enameled copper solution was what I was looking for. I see a destroyed transformer in my spare parts which will act as a donor.

Hopefully the video has helped you choose your wire , enamelled copper wire is one I love using as I do lots of micro repairs and it allows me to do them with relative ease . I do always scrape away the coating as I explained in the video rather than just burn it off with my iron which I find is just messy . But I know others who do burn it off and it works for them . Very helpful and informative. Just FYI the SMFL rework flux from Electolux seems to be discontinued. Do you have any other recommedations? (I see from your other videos you are looking at replacements, hopeful you will fine one or two that 'll be just as good)
Great video! So just wondering why you used the enameled copper wire rather than the thin, solid core, insulated wire like I've seen you do in the past? *Edit* I just saw the size comparison at the end to the 5p......It's much smaller than it looks in the video. Maybe that's the reason? Insulated wire would be way too big?

The 30 gauge Kynar wire that I have used in other videos ( green wire ) is actually a little big to do this repair very easily . The sleeved wire I did use for this repair is much more suitable and is a perfect size to match what was on there before . Hope that explains my choice of wire . Thanks again , take care 👍

Happy new year Thank you for your time to go into detail how to remove these components. I like the two soldering iron method. Please could you advise whether two 80 watt digital temperature adjustable soldeting irons would work ok for the small components or whether they would be to much? Im thinking of buying a couple from a well known auction site. I only have a 15 watt and 30 watt fixed temp irons and i have smoked nearby components in the past. Would you recommend upgading as they are only about £20 each. Thank you for your time. Have subscribed and look forward to more videos.
Hi , thank you for watching the videos and commenting , very much appreciated . 80 watt irons unless temperature regulated might be a bit overkill for what your planning . They can burn parts easier than lower wattage irons if your not careful . In all of my videos I use a Weller TCP S iron that is 50 watt and this is fine for all board work but I appreciate it is more expensive than some of the cheaper models that are common on auction sites . So personally I would look for a 25 watt to a 50 watt range if I was you . Hope that helps and thank you again for your support 👍
@@mrsolderfix3996 Hi thank you so much for explaining that. I would love one of those irons you have but the station that comes with it is out of my price range and this is just a hobby for me. I also thought even 60 watts seemed over kill. I also expect the iron itself would be much bigger to. I could not find a soldering under 80 watt that had a digital display on it to be able to see what the temp is. There is a 60 watt but it only has a circular dial for adjusting the temperature and would think it would be easily knocked. I have two soldering irons which are fixed temp 30w and a tiny 15 watt. This 15 watt would probably do for soldering the odd components i get the chance to do, what are your thoughts on that? I have heard you mention lots of times the temperatures you are using to do the various tasks you show in pretty much all your videos I've seen so figured this would be the way to go maybe. Taking your comment into account which are greatly appreciated would it be more practical maybe to buy an inexpensive smd rework Station off ebay. Have seen the Chinese brands advertised for just under £100? Would like to try and get more into electronics but need to figure out how to test things first so I could repair it. Please could I ask what, flux, cleaning wipes and solder you use. Is the solder lead free? If you have time some links would be great but only if you have the time. Thanks again for all the time you put into your videos they are extramly interesting and will prove helpfull.
Hi , all of my products I use come from UK companies and some of them won't deliver overseas , so I don't know where your based but may be a problem . If you are in the UK the cleaning cloths I use are Gtek dry wipes ( Grove sales ) , ULTRASOLVE cleaning Fluid ( Farnell , 1 litre bottles ) or you can get spray cans , all of my solders are from BLT CIRCUITS ( England ) , ask for Greg , he will help with all your questions . I have done videos on my channel showing how I clean boards etc , could be useful for you . If you are based in the United States I would try companies called Mouser or Digikey . They are the best 2 companies for all of your electronic needs , even myself based in England use them for certain items . 2 day delivery to the UK . I know some people quite like Hakko products . They do irons , rework stations and are a budget range . I personally have never used this make though . Worth looking at their range of equipment . Hope that helps . I am in the UK For board work do I need lead free solder, I assume there is a low melt option rather than the leaded tin type which I guess you don't want to be using. What size thickness please? Any chance you could give me an advice on fixing a pad on my calculator that was damaged by leaking batteries?
Sadly I can't link to a picture (but it's m25x0Qw.png on imgur). There are big 8 x 10 mm pads on the PCB that are the points of contact with the battery holders. The corrosion from the alkaline fluid has left holes in one of these pads. Of course, the holes coincide with the battery holder contacts, which breaks the elecrical connection. I thought I'd order a roll of copper tape and stick it on top but someone told me I could simply tin the whole pad, letting solder pool in the crevasses. *What would you do?*

Hi, any chance I can send you an email with some pictures of a pcb I am repairing? After a very difficult IC removal, I found out that there is a copper plate fixed to the pcb and it seems the chip was seated over it. Not sure, would like to show and get any tips about it and perhaps you can make a video based on it. Cheers!
